Bones Hyland is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 13 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 16% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Are Bones Hyland's stupidly ridiculous numbers from Dec. 28 sustainable or not? I'd err on the safe side and say they've been absolutely bonkers, ludicrous, and totally bound to drop massively sooner rather than later, but only time will tell.
Just take a look at this thing. From Dec. 28 (included), only four players have scored 100+ points while getting fewer than 135 minutes of playing time: Bones, Christian Wood, Klay Thompson, and Zion Williamson. Seriously.
Hyland has scored at least 13 points in each of his last six games, topping at 20 back on Dec. 28 when he actually put together a masterful 20-5-11 dub-dub against the Kings in his lone start of the season.
If you look at the pre/post-Dec. 28 splits by Hyland, you'd be hella scared of a possible (probable) regression coming his way soon.
- Before Dec. 28: 12-2-3 per-game line on 20 MPG, shooting 38% from the floor and averaging 2.3 3PM
- From Dec. 28: 16-3-4 on 23 MPG, 54 FG%, 3.3 3PM
The thing is, Hyland's usage rate hasn't changed and he's attempting the same volume of shots now as he had done through the first two months of play. Perhaps he's just got things right and found his shooting stroke. Perhaps it is all a mirage.
I don't really know, but rostering and playing the hell out of Bones is what everybody should be doing in the fantasy world.
