2026 Fantasy Football Rookie Wide Receiver Outlooks
Makai Lemon, Philadelphia Eagles
When the Philadelphia Eagles traded up to select USC wide receiver Makai Lemon with the 20th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, it was clear they were planning for life without three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Brown. With the trade of Brown to New England becoming official, the spotlight on Lemon grows notably brighter.
In his four seasons with the Eagles, Brown never earned less than a 27.3% target share, twice topping the 30% mark, and his absence creates the opportunity for Lemon to immediately claim a meaningful role in Philadelphia's new-look offense. After spending the past two seasons in Green Bay, Sean Mannion steps in as the Eagles' fifth offensive coordinator in as many seasons, creating a fresh slate for every pass catcher on the roster.
While DeVonta Smith has become the focal point of Philadelphia's passing offense in a small sample of games played without Brown over the past two seasons, he's done so without another target-earner of Lemon's caliber on the roster. While some early-season growing pains are to be expected, Lemon has both the talent and opportunity to quickly establish himself as a legitimate 1B in Philadelphia, and he is RotoBaller's rookie WR3 and dynasty WR21.
Ted Hurst, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spending a third-round pick on perimeter wide receiver Ted Hurst, he steps into the league with colossal shoes to fill. For the first time since 2013, the Buccaneers will be without six-time Pro Bowler Mike Evans, after the 32-year-old wideout signed a three-year deal with the 49ers in free agency.
At 6'3" and 206 pounds, Hurst profiles as the most likely player to inherit Evans' X-role on the boundary, but the receiver depth in Tampa runs deep, with a versatile group of pass-catchers capable of playing across the formation. For Hurst to eventually earn an every-down role in two-receiver sets, his most direct competition could come from third-year receiver Jalen McMillan.
Reports out of OTAs have suggested that McMillan has put the neck injury that limited him to only four games in 2025 squarely behind him, and he has looked like the best receiver on the field at times. A younger prospect, with the bulk of his collegiate success coming as a downfield ball-winner, Hurst profiles as a boom-or-bust receiver who could struggle to consistently reach his ceiling early in his career, but in a weak draft class, he slots in as RotoBaller's rookie WR12.
Germie Bernard, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Germie Bernard has an encouraging draft stock as a second-round pick and has drawn praise from the coaching staff, but his position on the depth chart could prevent him from having immediate fantasy relevance. Managers may need to exercise a little patience in dynasty leagues, as Bernard projects to open 2026 as the Steelers' No. 3 receiver behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.
That's not to say that he should be avoided in dynasty leagues, though. Metcalf has missed at least two games in each of the last two seasons, so injuries could strike at any time and result in Bernard taking on a larger role. Plus, as a second-rounder from Alabama, we know he's a talented player who could earn more playing time simply by producing this summer and early in his rookie season.
Managers may have to be a little patient, but the upside is very encouraging. Bernard is a solid target at the end of the first round or start of the second round in 2026 rookie drafts. He ranks as the WR60 in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy football rankings.
Brenen Thompson, Los Angeles Chargers
After recording 54 receptions for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns across 13 games in his final collegiate season at Mississippi State, wide receiver Brenen Thompson was selected in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Thompson is known as a vertical field stretcher with elite speed, as evidenced by his 4.26-second 40-yard dash at the 2026 Scouting Combine. The 22-year-old will be part of a crowded wide receiver room in Los Angeles and projects to play a reserve role as a rookie behind Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Tre' Harris.
Still, Thompson may have found an ideal landing spot with the Chargers thanks to the presence of new play-caller Mike McDaniel, who has a proven track record of weaponizing players with speed from his time with the Miami Dolphins. In dynasty formats, Thompson's long-term outlook is trending upwards ahead of his rookie campaign.
Bryce Lance, New Orleans Saints
A fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Bryce Lance could have a chance to contribute to his new team immediately as a rookie. As a senior at North Dakota State in 2025, Lance showed off his big-play ability by hauling in 51 receptions for 1,079 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 92 yards and an additional score on four carries.
Lance also turned heads at the Draft Combine by running a 4.34-second 40-yard dash. Given the presence of wideouts Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson, as well as tight end Juwan Johnson in New Orleans, Lance may have a tough time carving out a high-volume role in the Saints' passing game.
However, he could slide into the team's downfield role as a replacement for former Saints wideout Rashid Shaheed, who recorded 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns across nine games before New Orleans traded him to the Seattle Seahawks at the 2025 trade deadline. In dynasty formats, Lance's upside may currently be undervalued heading into 2026.
