Fantasy Football IDP Rookie Rankings: Post-NFL Draft (2026)

Sonny Styles - IDP Rookie Rankings, NFL Draft Prospect

RotoBaller's fantasy football IDP rookie rankings for 2026 NFL rookies. These updated staff rankings are from after the NFL Draft and include Edge, DT, LB, CB, S.

Rookie drafts are starting all over the fantasy football community, and a small niche will be zeroing in on those IDP difference-makers. Depending on your league's scoring, several IDP assets are going to outscore many RB2s and WR2s. For fantasy managers, you can gain an advantage on many league mates by addressing the defensive side of the ball.

IDP is often overlooked. A smart fantasy manager can build what appears to be a subpar roster, but if they're hot on their defensive players, they can be the ones at the end of the season who are basking in fantasy glory while the rest of the league scratches its collective head. We are going to look at 10 players who carry more value on the defensive side of the ball than many weekly starters who get attention on the offensive side.

In addition to these rookie rankings, in our 2026 fantasy football rankings dashboard, you will also find our team's Dynasty League rankings. Bookmark these pages and use them to prepare for all of your 2026 fantasy football dynasty league drafts.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! This 12-team, Tight End Premium contest uses a 20-round draft format, with the overall winners determined by total points scored during Weeks 15–17. 2026 Fantasy Football IDP Rookie Outlooks

Sonny Styles, LB, Washington Commanders

With Bobby Wagner's future up in the air, Sonny Styles steps in on Day 1 and slots in next to Frankie Luvu to anchor the interior of the Commanders defense. Wagner, the soon-to-be 36-year-old, was deemed replaceable even after posting 162 tackles a season ago, the fifth most in the NFL.

In fantasy football, we often talk about vacated targets and opportunities available to players coming in, and there may not be a better spot for any defensive player than the one Styles has in front of him as we enter the 2026 season.

In IDP rookie drafts, considering the players available on the offensive side of the ball, there is no reason not to believe that Styles shouldn’t be coming off the board as a mid-first-round selection. With Dan Quinn running the defense in D.C., expect Styles to have a Fred Warner-type impact on this defense and on your fantasy rosters.

David Bailey, Edge, New York Jets

Like Styles, David Bailey will be a Day 1 starter, playing opposite Will McDonald IV along the New York Jets defensive front. New York was in desperate need of a pass rush, considering only the San Francisco 49ers had fewer sacks in 2025 than the Jets' 26.

Bailey is one of the more explosive edge-rushers to come out in recent memory and can bend naturally, which lends itself to opportunities to get to the quarterback for sacks, which he managed to do 14.5 times last season. Bailey has an instinct to go for the strip sack, which bodes well for fantasy managers looking to hit that fantasy ceiling week in and week out.

CJ Allen, LB, Indianapolis Colts

CJ Allen finds himself front and center when looking at the Colts' depth chart with Akeem Davis-Gaither and John Bullock on either side. Davis is coming off a career year in which he registered 117 total tackles; however, his previous high was just 82. Meanwhile, Bullock joins the Colts after one season in Tampa Bay, where he recorded just 15 tackles total.

Indianapolis needed to address the linebacker position in the draft after parting ways with Zaire Franklin ( Green Bay), who had averaged 161 tackles over the last four seasons, and Germaine Pratt, who had 101 tackles with the Colts last season in just 12 contests.

Allen was a rock for the Georgia Bulldogs, and considering the current state of the linebacker group, Allen has an opportunity here to pick up a majority of the vacated tackles that departed this offseason. It’s also worth noting that Allen was not only stout against the run in college, but also recorded 87 pass-rush attempts.

Arvell Reese, Edge, New York Giants

If we knew what the Giants were doing with this pass rush, Arvell Reese would likely be higher on this list. The talent is unquestionable, but the landing spot is a head-scratcher, considering New York already has Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Abdul Carter.

Reese can play off the ball, which is likely the situation we are looking at, or out on the edge. If early projections are correct, playing off the ball somewhat hurts Reese’s fantasy output, but he still should be considered a top-5 option in IDP drafts.

Caleb Downs, S, Dallas Cowboys

Dallas attempted to move up ahead of the Giants into the top 10; however, the Cleveland Browns weren’t winning, so Jerry Jones had to sweat it out for a few minutes before Caleb Downs fell to them at 11.

In three collegiate seasons spent between Alabama and Ohio State, Downs accumulated 164 solo tackles and 257 total tackles. With an ability to line up at multiple spots in the secondary, he is as good a fit for the Cowboys defense as new defensive coordinator Christian Parker could ask for. Downs is an impact player, and it’s only a matter of days before Malik Hooker becomes expendable.

Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Miami Dolphins

Converting from quarterback to linebacker has worked out well for Jacob Rodriguez, who was selected in the second round of this past April's draft. Rodriguez does an excellent job anticipating where the ball will be and is one of the more sound tacklers in this draft class.

Miami has one of the worst rosters heading into 2026 and needs to plug multiple holes on its depth chart. Rodriguez will likely have to bide his time with Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson, and Willie Gay Jr. as the projected starters, but who better to learn from than Brooks, whom many scouts have compared Rodriguez to throughout the draft process.

Rodriguez finished his tenure at Texas Tech with 253 total tackles over his final 27 contests, and with Brooks and Dodson in the final year of their current deals, Rodriguez is in an excellent spot to be a fantasy stud come 2027.

Rueben Bain Jr., Edge, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Rueben Bain Jr. is one of the better edge-rushers in this rookie class. In Tampa Bay, Bain projects as an off-the-ball linebacker, which does hurt his fantasy value to a degree. Considering how dominant Bain had been in the College Football Playoff, it’s unlikely that the Buccaneers thought he would be available to them at pick 15.

Bain is one of the more polished edge-rushers and has violent hands to go along with an explosive first step; however, his sub-31-inch arm length could be an issue on Sundays. Bain plays the game with an aggressive mentality, which could overcome his deficiencies; if that happens, the upside is too much to pass up for fantasy managers.

Dillon Thieneman, S, Chicago Bears

Dillon Thieneman averaged 102 total tackles per season over his three-year collegiate career, splitting his time at Purdue as well as Oregon. Like Downs, Thieneman can line up anywhere in the secondary, operating not only as a single-high safety but also at 200 pounds, where he can come and fill in near the box.

Thieneman will start for the Bears at strong safety in Week 1, lining up opposite Coby Bryant, giving the Bears an intimidating duo patrolling the secondary. Expect Chicago to be creative in how it deploys its new defensive weapon, as that versatility lends itself to creativity.

Josiah Trotter, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay did an excellent job addressing its defensive needs not only for the 2026 season, but also for the future, with Bain and Josiah Trotter in good hands.

Tampa Bay added Alex Anzalone as a free agent; however, SirVocea Dennis is in the final year of his rookie contract, and given how he has struggled in pass coverage, Trotter could easily fill that void by next fall, if not sooner.

Trotter is not only solid in coverage situations but also a hammer in the middle of the defense, a physical tackler who flies to the ball. In just 24 games, Trotter produced 176 tackles (17 tackles for loss), splitting his time between West Virginia and Missouri.

Anthony Hill Jr., LB, Tennessee Titans

The biggest knock on Hill, and the reason he isn’t higher on the list, is that the former Longhorn is going to improve upon his instincts in the run game. Under the tutelage of Robert Saleh and Gus Bradley, Hill has the opportunity to be one of the biggest contributors in IDP leagues.

One area in which Hill thrives is in his ability to rush the passer and attack from various locations. Speed and range are two things Saleh values in his linebackers, and Hill has them in spades, with excellent coverage skills from the linebacker position.

Cody Barton and Cedric Gray are currently ahead of the rookie when looking at the depth chart, but expect that to change as Saleh has already stated that if Hill can put the work in throughout the offseason, there is a chance we could see him sporting a “green dot” come this fall. Both Barton and Gray have two years left on their current deals.
