Immanuel Quickley is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 14 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 20% of leagues
ANALYSIS: A week ago, I told you to be cautious about rostering and starting Immanuel Quickley. I told you not to get overly excited about his recent run of supremely great outcomes. It made sense, mostly because he clearly took advantage of RJ Barrett's lacerated finger injury and his sitting.
Quickley is now a reserve in the Knicks rotation. That's not incredibly bad, though, considering coach Thibs has shortened his scheme to a nine-man rotation in which Quickley is the clear sixth man of the squad and the no. 1 off-the-pine performer.
In the last two games played by the Knicks, on Wednesday and Friday, IQ logged 26 and 32 minutes off the pine, averaging 24.5 FPPG. He scored 11 and 18 and pulled down five and four rebounds, respectively, something not entirely bad and much more on par with what you should expect coming from him ROS.
Don't lose your head adding and starting Quickley in shallower leagues and formats, but give this man a chance elsewhere. The benefit of playing for Thibs as a starter is getting 40+ minutes nightly. Barring that role, at least IQ has become Thibs' off-the-pine darling (30+ minutes guaranteed) and New York is expected to hold onto his breakout season rather than trading him. Worth the (real and fantasy) gamble.
