When Will Trey Benson Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update for Week 11 (2025)

Trey Benson - Fantasy Football Rankings, RB, NFL Draft Sleepers,

When will Trey Benson return and play? Will Trey Benson be back again this season? Read the latest Trey Benson injury updates and return date for Week 11 (2025).

Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson (knee) has now been out of action for five games and six total weeks due to a knee injury he suffered in Week 4. He had been set to take over the lead running back role after the injury to RB James Conner (ankle).

Benson's injury placed him on injured reserve and likely cut into what could have been an excellent season. For now, the Cardinals have been running a nasty committee backfield of Michael Carter, Emari Demercado, and Bam Knight.

That's not been very productive for fantasy football, as the touches have been annoyingly split between the players. Fantasy football managers who drafted Benson are understandably getting impatient, so when will he return? What's his rest-of-season fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! This 12-team, Tight End Premium contest uses a 20-round draft format, with the overall winners determined by total points scored during Weeks 15–17. Trey Benson Injury Update

Benson is part of a group of players who have been dealing with injuries that seem to be more severe than initially suggested. Along with Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton (ankle) and San Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall (knee), it seems like there is an abnormally high number of players' situations that are shrouded in secrecy.

We've essentially heard nothing concrete about a potential timetable for return or the specifics of his injury. It could be an MCL tear, PCL sprain, some kind of minor LCL damage, a posterolateral corner injury, or anything in between. We truly have no idea. The Cardinals have guarded the truth very closely.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told us he's progressing. That's awesome! Thanks, coach. But that doesn't tell us anything, and we're still left grasping in the dark, like we were before. At least he's on injured reserve, so that's nice, since we can stash him in injured reserve spots in fantasy lineups.

Trey Benson Fantasy Football Outlook

We don't really have enough information about how the backfield will be split when he returns. It's possible he'll come back and have to play through the injury for the rest of the season, which could cap his upside, as he'll be forced to split reps with the other running backs.

We don't have a ton of information about how much better he is than the current backs, either. He's probably head and shoulders above Knight, but Demercado has played very well this season aside from a goal-line fumble that got him reduced reps for a few games.

We've really just seen a few explosive plays when he was in a committee backfield with Conner. It could be that Arizona wants to split up their backfield touches even after Conner went down, because Benson didn't have impressive volume in the first game as the starter.

He played 55 percent of the offensive snaps but only had eight carries for 35 yards and five catches for 19 yards. The receiving usage is very nice, but on film, we've seen Benson struggle to grind out consistent gains, instead relying on explosive rushes, like the one above.

And the Cardinals have been struggling on offense. Even though they were able to beat the lowly Dallas Cowboys defense in Week 10, they got blasted by the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11, and much of their running back production came in garbage time. That's not something you can consistently count on.

Benson thus profiles as an RB3 until we figure out more. He might not be very useful in fantasy football this year.
