John King Lands on IL with Oblique Strain
John King (oblique) was placed on the 15-day IL on Wednesday with a left oblique strain. Severity is not yet known. If the oblique strain is a Grade 1, expect King to miss only 2-3 weeks. A Grade 2 oblique strain could mean 6-8 weeks on the IL and possibly season-ending. Further testing (MRI) will show the Cardinals' next course of action. Since the All-Star break, King has only allowed three earned runs over his last seven outings, logging four strikeouts and only one walk. RHP Gordon Graceffo has been called up to take King's bullpen spot.Source: @cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals reliever 49ers Work Out Jeff Wilson Jr., D'Ernest Johnson
Jeff Wilson Jr. and D'Ernest Johnson at training camp on Wednesday, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Wilson was with the 49ers from 2018-22 and also spent the last two-plus seasons with former Kyle Shanahan assistant Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins. The Niners can never have enough depth in the RB room behind the oft-injured Christian McCaffrey, especially after they no longer have Jordan Mason around. Wilson's best season came in 2022 when he played for both the Niners and Dolphins, racking up a career-high 860 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 176 rushing attempts. Johnson, 29, spent the first four years of his career in Cleveland before playing for the Jaguars the last two years. He has never had over 534 rushing yards or three touchdowns in a single season.Source: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo
The San Francisco 49ers worked out veteran free-agent running backs Tyler Wells Successful in First Rehab Start
Tyler Wells (elbow) had his first rehab start for Double-A Chesapeake on Wednesday. The 30-year-old threw two perfect innings with one strikeout. Wells had Tommy John surgery in June 2024 and is trying to work his way into the Orioles' starting rotation. He threw 15 of his 22 pitches for strikes, which is a good sign as control is one of the last aspects of pitching that comes back after Tommy John surgery. Wells has not pitched in an MLB game since April 2024 but was a consistent pitcher back in 2023, pitching to the tune of a 3.64 ERA, 0.99 WHIP over 119 innings, starting 20 games for the Orioles. Wells could return to the majors by late August.Source: @BaysoxOfficial
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Mets Hopeful Juan Soto will Return on Friday
Carlos Mendoza said he anticipates outfielder Juan Soto (foot) to return to the Mets lineup on Friday versus the San Francisco Giants. "I think we dodged a bullet here," Mendoza said, referring to the bruised left foot Soto suffered in Tuesday’s loss to the Pirates. X-rays on his foot came back negative. However, fractures may not be seen until a few days later due to inflammation. Given the rest, the Mets are giving Soto Wednesday, and with the team having an off day Thursday, Soto is able to have 72 hours off his feet. Soto have been somewhat slumping in July hitting only .210 with five home runs, 15 RBI and six stolen bases. Tyrone Taylor has benefited with more playing time with Soto out.Source: @snytv

Martin Perez Seeing First Game Action Since April
Martin Perez (forearm), who has been on the injured list since April 19, has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment starting Thursday with Triple-A Charlotte. Perez has been on the 60-day IL with a left flexor strain in his left forearm, and his rehab has finally progressed to game action. Given the length of time Perez has been out, he should require multiple rehab starts, barring any setbacks. He has pitched in four games this year to the tune of a 3.15 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 20 innings. Perez could return in the next two t to three weeks, putting him on the fantasy radar in deep leagues.Source: @scottmerkin
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jaydon Blue Gets Work With First-Team Offense on Wednesday
Jaydon Blue saw his first decent run with the first-team offense at training camp practice on Wednesday, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. There was a report that surfaced before the start of camp suggesting that Blue was "borderline lazy," but he has so far dispelled that narrative this summer and has impressed head coach Brian Schottenheimer with his "dynamic playmaking ability." Things are going well for the 21-year-old back early on, but the fact remains that veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders will both likely be positioned ahead of him in the backfield pecking order to begin the 2025 season. He's also small at 5-foot-9 and 196 pounds, so it's unlikely that Blue will ever be a bell-cow back in the NFL. However, the fifth-rounder could push for a pass-catching role in Dallas sooner than later in his rookie season.Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Nick Harris
Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ronald Acuna Jr. has Calf Strain, Could Return in 2-3 Weeks
Ronald Acuna Jr. (calf) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right-calf strain after landing on the 10-day injured list. The Braves will monitor Acuna's progress, but he could return in two to three weeks, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Many folks might have assumed Acuna was lost for the rest of the season when it was initially announced that he had suffered an Achilles injury in Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. The Braves have no incentive to rush the former MVP back, but this injury update is a best-case scenario for Acuna's fantasy managers, and he should remain stashed in an IL spot. In the meantime, Eli White will be given the first shot at replacing the All-Star in right field in Atlanta, although the lefty-hitting Jarred Kelenic could form a platoon after just being called up from the minors.Source: MLB.com - Mark Bowman
Atlanta Braves outfielder Giants Land Drew Gilbert in Deadline Deal With Mets
Drew Gilbert and right-handed pitchers Blade Tidwell and Jose Butto from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for veteran right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. It was a pretty big overpay by the Mets, as both Tidwell and Gilbert were ranked in the team's top-15 prospect list, per MLB Pipeline. Gilbert, 24, was a first-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2022 out of Tennessee and was previously considered a top-100 prospect. However, he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in the minors and was hitting .246/.349/.435 with 12 home runs in 81 games at Triple-A Syracuse. Injuries have definitely played a role in Gilbert's struggles on the farm, but the Giants are hoping they can turn him around and have him be a contributor at the big-league level next season.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
The San Francisco Giants acquired outfield prospect Blade Tidwell Heading to San Francisco
Blade Tidwell, reliever Jose Butto and outfield prospect Drew Gilbert from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. It's a massive haul for the Giants in exchange for a veteran submariner. The 24-year-old Tidwell was ranked as the Mets' No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The former second-rounder in 2022 out of Tennessee made his big-league debut with the Mets this year and allowed 15 earned runs on 23 hits (four homers) while walking 10 and striking out 10 in four appearances (two starts). He's expected to start at Triple-A Sacramento, but Tidwell has a clearer path to a rotation spot in the big leagues in the Bay Area. Tidwell will need to improve his walk rate to get his shot in San Francisco.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
The San Francisco Giants acquired right-handed pitching prospect Mets Acquire Tyler Rogers From Giants
Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, a source tells The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Mets will send right-handers Blade Tidwell and Jose Butto and outfielder Drew Gilbert to the Giants for Rogers. Rogers' brother, Taylor, was also traded on Wednesday from the Cincinnati Reds to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the deal involving third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. It's a lot to give up for a 34-year-old submariner, but the Mets are looking to shore up the back end of their bullpen for the stretch run this year. Rogers has been very strong for the Gigantes in 2025 with a 4-3 record, 1.80 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. He's been stingy in the run department, but with no strikeout upside and no clear path to saves in New York, he won't be on the fantasy radar.Source: The Athletic - Ken Rosenthal
The New York Mets are acquiring right-handed reliever Eli White to Play Right Field With Ronald Acuna Jr. Injured
Eli White will play right field for the team with Ronald Acuna Jr. (Achilles) on the 10-day injured list. White made the start in right field and was hitting in the eight-hole for Wednesday's game against the hosting Kansas City Royals and left-hander Angel Zerpa. It's a massive downgrade for the Braves offense, as White is batting .255 (47-for-184) with four home runs, 18 RBI, 29 runs scored and seven stolen bases on the year. For fantasy managers in NL-only leagues, though, White becomes an interesting pickup with a tick up in playing time coming for as long as Acuna remains out. In what has quickly become a lost season, the Braves won't have much incentive to rush Acuna back into the fold. If White struggles, Jared Kelenic could get some run in right field for the Braves, too.Source: The Associated Press
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that outfielder Jared Triolo to Take Over at Third Base in Pittsburgh
Jared Triolo is being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis and will take over starting third base duties for the team after they traded Ke'Bryan Hayes to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, according to Noah Hiles of Pittsburgh PG. Triolo will not officially rejoin the big-league roster until before Friday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The 27-year-old was originally a second-round selection by the Bucs in 2019 out of the University of Houston. He made his major-league debut in 2023 and has hit a weak .225/.311/.326 with a .638 OPS, 15 home runs, 77 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 234 games. Triolo has gone 22-for-139 (.158) with three homers, 10 RBI and five steals for Pittsburgh in 55 games this year. He should probably only be rostered in NL-only leagues now that he'll see regular playing time.Source: Pittsburgh PG - Noah Hiles
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Camilo Doval Drawing Significant Interest
Camilo Doval ahead of Thursday's July 31 trade deadline, and he's drawing significant interest. Doval is among the relievers who could be on the move in the next few hours, according to sources. The 28-year-old Dominican reliever hasn't been perfect, but he's having a bounce-back 2025 campaign after a disastrous 2024 season that saw him post a 4.88 ERA in 59 innings pitched. Doval led the big leagues with 39 saves in 2023 and is currently sporting a 3.15 ERA (3.31 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP, 15 saves, 47 strikeouts and 24 walks in 45 2/3 innings pitched. While he has been shaky in the month of July, Doval could be a serious bullpen upgrade for a contending team this week. If Doval is traded, look for Randy Rodriguez to become the Giants' top option for saves.Source: MLB.com - Francys Romero
MLB.com's Francys Romero reports that multiple teams are monitoring San Francisco Giants closer Zay Flowers Sitting Out of Wednesday's Practice
Zay Flowers (knee/leg) did not practice on Wednesday, but head coach John Harbaugh said the Pro Bowl wideout had "camp-like" stuff pop up and will get a day or a few days off. It sounds like Flowers is dealing with a minor ailment, so fantasy managers should not be concerned at this point. In his second NFL season last year, Flowers secured 74 of his 116 targets for 1,059 yards and four touchdowns. The former first-round pick out of Boston College has been excellent to start his NFL career, but high-end WR1 upside for fantasy football is likely out of reach thanks to the Ravens' dominance on the ground. Either way, he's a solid WR2/3 or flex option and has the big-play ability to produce spike weeks. His competition for targets in the wide receiver room remains weak entering 2025.Source: Morgan Adsit
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Joe Burrow Says Wednesday's Practice was "Best I've Thrown in Years"
Joe Burrow has seemingly dealt with nagging injuries throughout the last few offseasons, which has contributed to the team's 1-9 record in Weeks 1 and 2 since he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in 2020. However, the two-time Pro Bowler stated previously this offseason that he is feeling healthy, and he said Wednesday's practice was the "best I've thrown in years." Burrow was fantastic a season ago, completing over 70% of his passes for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His confidence heading into the new NFL campaign is promising, and if the Bengals do not dramatically improve on defense, he'll continue to have to pass at a high rate to stay in games. While quarterbacks without rushing floors and upside aren't as "safe" in fantasy football, Burrow should be at least a midrange fantasy football QB1 again in 2025 if he, Tee Higgins, and Ja'Marr Chase stay relatively healthy.Source: NFL.com
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Landen Roupp Throws Off Flat Ground
Landen Roupp (elbow) threw 35 pitches off flat ground on Tuesday and is expected to continue throwing at the team's spring training complex in Arizona during the club's six-game road trip, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Right-elbow inflammation landed Roupp on the 15-day injured list late last week, but if he continues to progress, he could come off the IL in early August to rejoin San Fran's starting rotation. The 26-year-old former 12th-round pick in 2021 should have a spot waiting for him in the Giants' rotation when he's ready to return, as he was looking good with a 3.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 95:42 K:BB in 101 1/3 innings over 20 starts in just his second MLB season. Roupp had given up two earned runs or less in six straight starts before getting injured.Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Shayna Rubin
San Francisco Giants right-hander Cam Ward Says Titans Offense Has Been "Very Mid"
Cam Ward has struggled in the first two padded practices of training camp. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Miami has been off-target and has thrown several interceptions during team periods. The 23-year-old said the team's offense has been "very mid" so far, but he did not deflect blame. "At the end of the day, it all starts with me," Ward said. "I just don't think we're where we need to be, but we've got a little bit of time." Rookie quarterbacks often struggle mightily early in their first NFL offseason, especially No. 1 overall picks with limited weapons. Ward is an interesting dynasty asset, but he's unlikely to be worth a firm roster spot in 12-team redraft leagues this season. Tennessee lacks proven playmakers behind Calvin Ridley, and plenty of growing pains are expected. Ward will kick off his regular-season career in Denver against one of the league's best defenses.Source: NFL.com
Tennessee Titans quarterback Roki Sasaki Needs Another Bullpen Session
Roki Sasaki (shoulder) is scheduled to throw at least one more bullpen session before being cleared to face live hitters, according to MLB.com. Sasaki initially landed on the 15-day injured list on May 13 with a right-shoulder impingement and was moved to the 60-day IL on June 20. The first-place Dodgers are not rushing the 23-year-old Japanese hurler back, and in a best-case scenario, fantasy managers may not get him back until late August or even early September. He has not pitched in a game since May 9 and threw 39 pitches in his most recent bullpen session. Once Sasaki goes on a minor-league rehab start, he's expected to need three to four appearances before he's an option to rejoin the big-league club. The Dodgers hope he can return before the end of the August, but even then, Sasaki might not be able to contribute much in fantasy the rest of the way.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers rookie right-hander Maxwell Hairston Week-to-Week with Knee Injury
Source: Jordan Schultz
Buffalo Bills cornerback Maxwell Hairston (knee) is considered week-to-week after suffering a knee injury that forced him out of Tuesday's practice, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The rookie first-round pick out of Kentucky is expected to compete for a starting role right away, and the injury is much less serious than it could have been, considering it was a non-contact injury. The 21-year-old's development could be slowed down by his absence, but it sounds like he should be ready for the Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. In three seasons at Kentucky, Hairston tallied six interceptions and three defensive touchdowns, so the organization is hoping he can bring that playmaking ability to the next level.Shedeur Sanders Competes Against First-Team Defense on Wednesday
Shedeur Sanders, who is working behind veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel, saw action against the first-team defense for the first time during Wednesday's training camp practice. According to Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, he was leading the second-team offense during this period. The rookie fifth-round pick out of Colorado has an opportunity to prove himself in the absence of Kenny Pickett (hamstring), so this could be a promising sign for his development. That said, Flacco remained the clear QB1 on Wednesday, and Sanders seemingly has an uphill battle to see any playing time in 2025. Dynasty managers in deep leagues can continue to stash him, but he's unlikely to be on the fantasy football radar in redraft leagues this fall.Source: Chris Easterling - Akron Beacon Journal
Cleveland Browns quarterback Alec Bohm Doing Baseball Activities
Alec Bohm (rib) was diagnosed with a left-rib fracture on July 19 and was placed on the 10-day injured list. Bohm is feeling better now, though, and ran, threw, took dry swings, hit off a practice tee and fielded ground balls on Tuesday before the game in Chicago against the White Sox, according to MLB.com. If Bohm can avoid a setback once he begins ramping up even further, he could come off the IL by mid-August, but he's likely going to require a minor-league rehab assignment first. For however much longer the 28-year-old remains out, rookie Otto Kemp should remain the team's primary third baseman. Although Bohm has hit a decent .278 (98-for-353) this year, he's been a disappointment overall with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 92 games after he was a first-time All-Star in 2024.Source: MLB.com

Reds Acquiring Ke'Bryan Hayes From Pirates
Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, according to sources. The Reds will sent shortstop Sammy Stafura and left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers to the Pirates in exchange. Although Hayes has been a disappointment offensively since being taken in the first round in 2015, the 28-year-old is one of the best defensive third basemen in the league and has five years of club control after the 2025 campaign. Hayes should take over at third base in Cincy moving forward, which is bad news for Noelvi Marte. However, he has hit just .236/.279/.290 with two home runs in 100 games this year and won't really be an offensive upgrade as the Reds look to make a run at a wild-card spot. Still, Hayes' minimal fantasy appeal is on the rise with the move to a better ballpark and lineup.Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Passan
ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Cincinnati Reds are acquiring third baseman Andres Gimenez Nearing Rehab Assignment
Andres Gimenez (ankle) is expected to begin running the bases by Friday in Toronto, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Gimenez could begin a minor-league rehab assignment shortly after that if all goes well. The 26-year-old infielder has been out since early July with a sprained left ankle, but if he doesn't have any setbacks, he could be cleared to come off the 10-day injured list by the middle of next week. When fully healthy, Gimenez is the regular starting first baseman for Toronto, although he's a better defender than he is on offense. The Venezuelan left-handed hitter is batting just .218 (46-for-211) on the year with five home runs, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 stolen bases, making him mostly a middle-infield depth piece for his modest speed in AL-only fantasy formats.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Arden Zwelling
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Alejandro Kirk on Track to Return on Sunday
Alejandro Kirk (concussion) is tentatively on track to play in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, which puts him on track to be activated from the seven-day injured list on Sunday if all goes well over the next few games, per MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. A foul tip to Kirk's mask last weekend ended up giving him a minor concussion, but he's made good progress and could rejoin Toronto's lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Kansas City Royals. Ali Sanchez got the start for Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, but Tyler Heineman has seen most of the playing time behind the dish with Kirk out. Kirk made the All-Star squad for the second time in his career this year and will be returning to a strong .304/.361/.413 slash line. He doesn't have much power, but fantasy managers aren't complaining at the weak catching spot.Source: MLB.com - Keegan Matheson
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Jeremy Pena Could be Back on Friday
Jeremy Pena (ribs) will play shortstop in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday and could come off the injured list to rejoin the Astros before Friday's series opener at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Pena went 0-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored as the designated hitter for Sugar Land in his first rehab game on Tuesday. The Astros aren't expecting the 27-year-old to need many games in the minors before having him rejoin the big-league squad this weekend. Pena shouldn't be floating around on any waiver wires despite spending time on the 10-day IL. The Dominican infielder is having a career year for the Astros, slashing .322/.378/.489 with an .867 OPS, 11 homers, 40 RBI, 48 runs and 15 steals in 317 at-bats.Source: MLB.com - Brian McTaggart
Houston Astros shortstop Phillies, Red Sox Interested in Jhoan Duran
Jhoan Duran is heating up, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, with the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox being among the many teams pursuing him. Heyman also lists the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners as other teams in the mix. The 27-year-old Dominican right-hander is extremely attractive at this year's trade deadline and would be a huge upgrade for any team's bullpen for the stretch run. Duran throws over 100 mph and has a 2.01 ERA (2.49 FIP), a 1.18 WHIP, 16 saves and a 53:18 K:BB in 49 1/3 relief innings this year in his fourth season with the Twins. He has 74 career saves and could become even more valuable in fantasy, depending on where he is traded. If Duran is traded, Griffin Jax or Louis Varland could see save chances for the Twins.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
