Isaac Paredes Could Need Season-Ending Surgery
Isaac Paredes (hamstring) may miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to a potential surgery. The injury deals a major blow to Houston's lineup as they gear up for a playoff run. With the trade deadline approaching, the Astros are exploring replacements, including Nolan Arenado, Eugenio Suarez, and a possible reunion with Carlos Correa. Correa, a former franchise cornerstone, is seen as the most likely target. Fantasy managers in redraft formats can move on from Paredes and monitor who fills the void in Houston's lineup for potential waiver pickups.Source: Bob Nightengale
Houston Astros third baseman Hurston Waldrep Strikes Out Eight on Tuesday
Hurston Waldrep tossed seven shutout innings en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Durham on Tuesday evening. In this outing, the right-hander allowed just five hits and one walk. He struck out eight. Since the start of the month, the 23-year-old has put together a strong stretch of outings and could be nearing a return to the major leagues. Since July 1, Waldrep has posted an impressive 0.78 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. During these 23 innings of work, the right-hander struck out 23 hitters and allowed just 10 walks. However, during June, he held a much higher 6.23 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be in the mix to earn his second taste of the majors with Atlanta falling out of the playoff picture.Source: MiLB.com
Atlanta Braves right-handed pitching prospect Marquise Brown Out of Practice on Wednesday
Marquise Brown (ankle) is out of Wednesday's training camp practice after injuring his ankle on Tuesday, according to Chiefs beat writer Matt McMullen. In addition to Brown, receivers Xavier Worthy (concussion) and Skyy Moore (hamstring) are out after they also were hurt in Tuesday's practice. The good news for the Chiefs receiver room is that none of their injuries appear very serious, so hopefully they will be back sooner than later. Brown suffered a shoulder injury in camp last year that ended up limiting him to just two regular-season games in his first year in KC. The 28-year-old was able to play in three playoff games, too, but he didn't really stand out. When both Rashee Rice and Worthy are healthy, Brown will probably operate as the WR3. He has missed 23 games due to injuries in the last three seasons.Source: Chiefs.com - Matt McMullen
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Adrian Houser Scratched from Start, Tyler Alexander on the Bump
Adrian Houser was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday, fueling speculation that a trade is in the works ahead of Thursday's deadline. The 31-year-old has quietly put together a career year for the struggling South Siders, posting a 6-2 record with a stellar 2.10 ERA.
Houser has been more effective across the board in 2025, lowering his batting average against to .248 (down 24 points from last year), while increasing his strikeout rate to 17.1% and trimming his walk rate to 8%. His improved command and contact suppression make him an appealing mid-rotation option for contenders.
From a fantasy perspective, Houser is worth a speculative pickup in deeper redraft leagues. If dealt to a winning club with better run support and bullpen help, his value could rise significantly in the second half.Source: Jon Heyman
Chicago White Sox right-hander Gage Ziehl Shipped to the White Sox
Austin Slater. Before the trade, Ziehl was considered the No. 16-ranked prospect in the Yankee system on MLB.com. Ziehl made his professional debut at the start of the campaign as he joined the Yankees in the fourth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Miami. He began the season with Low-A and logged 74 1/3 innings to the tune of a 4.00 ERA before moving up to High-A. With High-A, Ziehl needed to appear in just one game before getting the call to join Double-A. In his first four innings at Double-A, Ziehl allowed four runs but struck out four. Fantasy managers should expect the 22-year-old to remain at Double-A through the back half of the season.Source: Mark Feinsand
The New York Yankees have traded right-handed pitching prospect Gage Ziehl to the Chicago White Sox. In return, the Yankees acquired outfielder Anthony Richardson Sr., Daniel Jones QB Competition Remains Tight
Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones remains tight in training camp, with neither signal-caller putting distance between them. Head coach Shane Steichen called the QB battle "neck and neck." The Athletic's Zak Keefer writes that Richardson "was sharper during the team's first two padded practices." Richardson, the former fourth overall pick, has been a disappointment in his first two NFL seasons due to injuries and inconsistent performances. The young QB has missed 17 games due to injury and was benched midway through 2024 in favor of Joe Flacco. His completion percentage was a league-low 47.7%. Despite the early disappointment, GM Chris Ballard has faith in Richardson long term, even if he loses the battle to Jones this summer. Richardson's rushing upside is elite, but he must become a more complete QB to realize his QB1 potential.Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder
ESPN's Stephen Holder writes that the Indianapolis Colts quarterback competition between Yankees Acquire Austin Slater From White Sox in Deadline Deal
Austin Slater from the Chicago White Sox ahead of the trade deadline. Slater, 32, brings value as a platoon bat, especially against left-handed pitching, where he's slashing .261/.338/.522 this season. With Aaron Judge currently sidelined, Slater could step in immediately to provide coverage in the outfield. He's shown surprising pop this year, hitting five home runs in just 51 games while posting a career-best 91.6 mph average exit velocity.
From a fantasy perspective, Slater should be on the radar in deeper redraft leagues, particularly those with daily lineup changes or five outfield spots. If he sees regular playing time against lefties in a potent Yankees lineup, he could offer sneaky value as a short-term power contributor.Source: Jeff Passan

Bills Backup Quarterback Competition "Completely Open"
Mitchell Trubisky and Mike White are competing for the backup job to superstar Josh Allen, and the team is "nowhere close to a decision at this point," according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Both players spent 2024 with Buffalo, but neither saw significant playing time. Trubisky (57 starts) has seen significantly more NFL action than White (seven starts). However, Trubisky struggled in his last extended run of action with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, going 2-3 in five starts and throwing more interceptions (five) than touchdowns (four). Hopefully for Buffalo, Allen continues to be an ironman, as he's started 67 games for the Bills across the last four seasons. However, given Allen's physical style of play, there's always the possibility that the backup in Buffalo could be forced into action.Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia
Buffalo Bills quarterbacks Tory Horton Impressing in Training Camp Practices
Tory Horton "continues to flash in practice," according to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. A fifth-round draft pick out of Colorado State, Horton recorded 265 catches for 3,615 yards and 27 touchdowns across five collegiate seasons. The Seahawks have Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp entrenched as their top two wide receivers, and veteran free-agent addition Marquez Valdes-Scantling is penciled in as a starter on the outside. That leaves Horton fighting with the likes of Jake Bobo, Steven Sims, and Dareke Young for a depth role in Seattle. While Horton is unlikely to make an impact in fantasy right away, he could be a name to monitor if he continues to impress throughout the preseason.Source: The Athletic - Michael-Shawn Dugar
Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley Injured in Practice on Wednesday
Calvin Ridley (calf) limped off from the team's practice on Wednesday while holding his right calf, according to ESPN's Turron Davenport. Davenport speculates that it could simply be a cramp, but the severity and nature of the injury are unknown. Losing Ridley would be a major issue for the Titans' offense, which is already low on proven receiving talent. In 17 games for Tennessee in 2024, the 30-year-old recorded 64 catches for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns. Ridley is the unquestioned number one option for rookie quarterback Cam Ward. If he were to miss time, veterans Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson, as well as rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike, would be in line for increased usage.Source: ESPN - Turron Davenport
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Jordan James Impressing in Training Camp Practices
Jordan James has played well in training camp so far, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said James "hits holes hard," according to Vic Tafur and Matt Barrows of The Athletic. A fifth-round selection out of Oregon, James rushed for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Ducks in 2024. He's presumably competing with 2024 fourth-rounder Isaac Guerendo and fifth-year veteran Patrick Taylor Jr. for the backup job to 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. Given the injuries that McCaffrey has dealt with throughout his career, James could find himself in the mix for carries sooner rather than later. He needs an injury to be fantasy relevant, but James could emerge as an intriguing ultra-late-round handcuff option if he continues to impress throughout the remainder of the preseason.Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur, Matt Barrows
San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Dalen Cambre Earning First-Team Reps for Giants
Dalen Cambre worked with the starting offense during the team's first padded practice on Monday, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. An undrafted free agent out of Louisiana, Cambre had just 10 catches for 123 yards across his five-year collegiate career but is known as an ace special-teams player. Duggan notes that Cambre's offensive work came when Giants wide receivers Jalen Hyatt (cramps) and Wan'Dale Robinson (quad) were both sidelined due to injuries, so it's possible that he was simply the next man up. With wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles) lost for the season due to an Achilles tear, Cambre has a path towards earning a roster spot.Source: The Athletic - Dan Duggan
New York Giants rookie wide receiver Carlos Correa Not in Lineup for Series Finale
Carlos Correa (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Boston Red Sox after he was pulled early from Tuesday's tilt with lightheadedness. Brooks Lee will take over at shortstop and will hit second versus Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. With a scheduled day off on Thursday, the Twins are hoping that the 30-year-old Correa will be feeling much better and be ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians. Correa should be considered day-to-day for now, and he could be on the move this week at the trade deadline with the Houston Astros considering a reunion. Lee, who has hit .256 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI in his first full season in the big leagues, would be the beneficiary if Correa is traded by Thursday.Source: MLB.com
Minnesota Twins shortstop Martin Emerson Jr. to Miss 2025 Season Due to Ruptured Achilles

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed on Wednesday that cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. (Achilles) will require surgery to repair his ruptured left Achilles and will miss the 2025 season, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. It's a rough blow for the fourth-year corner, who will be a free agent at season's end. Emerson Jr. had only missed one game across his first three NFL seasons, racking up 62 solo tackles, four interceptions, and 34 passes defensed. He had been projected to be Cleveland's starting nickel corner heading into 2025. Without Emerson Jr., the Browns will likely turn to veterans George Springer Still Out, Joey Loperfido Returns on Wednesday
George Springer (head) remains out of Wednesday's series finale at Camden Yards against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Dean Kremer. Meanwhile, outfielder Joey Loperfido (thumb) is starting in right field and will bat leadoff on Wednesday after jamming his left thumb on a play at the plate in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. The 26-year-old sat out Game 2 as a precaution but is now back in the lineup and will be a DFS sleeper out of the leadoff spot. Springer was hit by a pitch on his ear flap in Monday's series opener in Baltimore and will miss his third straight game. The 35-year-old veteran is hoping to avoid a stint on the injured list and has been feeling better, so perhaps he'll be cleared to play for Friday's series opener against the Kansas City Royals after a scheduled off day on Thursday.Source: MLB.com
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Rashid Shaheed Showing More Physicality in Camp
Rashid Shaheed is playing through physical coverage in training camp practices so far, according to Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports. Nowak notes that this has been a clear area of improvement for the fourth-year receiver since he entered the league in 2022. Once known exclusively as a downfield deep-ball threat, Shaheed was showing signs of becoming a more complete receiver in 2024 before tearing his meniscus in Week 6 and missing the remainder of the season. In the six games he played, Shaheed caught 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns, averaging an impressive 2.25 yards-per-route-run. The Saints' question marks at quarterback hold down his fantasy value, but Shaheed is an intriguing late-round dart throw who could be on the verge of a breakout in his age-27 season.Source: Audacy Sports - Jeff Nowak
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Gary Woodland Eyeing Strong Finish to Reach Playoffs
Source: PGA Tour
Gary Woodland has had a decent season with six top-25 finishes and six missed cuts in 19 events this year. He currently sits 75th in the FedEx Cup standings and will require a solo 25th-place finish or better at the Wyndham Championship to qualify for the playoffs. To do that, Woodland will need to be accurate from tee to green and convert his birdie chances. He ranks 77th in total strokes gained at plus-0.270, 62nd in greens in regulation, and is in the 81st percentile in proximity from 150 to 200 yards -- a range that accounted for over 40% of approach shots here last year. However, Woodland has struggled with consistency, ranking just 116th in driving accuracy and 147th in birdie or better percentage. At $7,000 on DraftKings, Woodland has decent upside but will need to play aggressively to secure his spot in next week's playoffs.Max McGreevy Chasing a Miracle at Wyndham
Source: PGA Tour
Max McGreevy has had an up-and-down season, recording six top-25 finishes but missing 10 cuts through 23 events. He currently sits 99th in the FedEx Cup standings, well outside the top 70 needed to reach the playoffs. McGreevy is looking for a breakthrough at the Wyndham Championship, where he has competed twice, finishing T51 and T5. To have success here, he'll need to be accurate from tee to green and convert birdie opportunities. He ranks 89th in total strokes gained at plus-0.126 per round, 23rd in driving accuracy, and 79th in greens in regulation. He is 97th in birdie or better percentage but sits in just the 32nd percentile in proximity from 150 to 200 yards, a range that accounted for over 40% of approach shots here last year. At $6,800 on DraftKings, he offers value, but McGreevy will need a strong finish, specifically a tie for third place or better, to earn enough points to crack the FedEx Cup playoffs.Alex Bregman Scratched on Wednesday
Alex Bregman will sit out Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. Bregman was in Boston's original lineup, but Abraham Toro will instead handle third base and hit second versus right-hander Zebby Matthews. With the Red Sox off Thursday, Bregman will now get back-to-back days to rest. The Red Sox have taken it easy with the 31-year-old since he returned July 11 from a month-plus stay on the IL with a quad injury. Bregman has gone 14-for-48 with three home runs and nine RBI in his first 13 games back to continue another productive season. He's slashing an outstanding .298/.371/.551 with 14 homers, 44 RBI, and 39 runs scored over 275 plate appearances.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox third baseman Stephan Jaeger a Solid Value Play at Wyndham Championship
Stephan Jaeger has been steady this season, recording five top-25 finishes and just five missed cuts through 21 events. That consistency has him inside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings at 57th, placing him in a position for theFernando Cruz to Throw From Mound This Week
Fernando Cruz (oblique) is scheduled to throw off a mound either Thursday or Friday as he works back from a strained left oblique. It'll be the right-hander's first time doing so since he went on the 15-day injured list a month ago. Cruz hasn't pitched since June 27, which has deprived the Yankees of one of their only reliable setup men. The 35-year-old has posted a 3.00 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP, 54 strikeouts, 14 walks, and nine holds in 33 innings. With Cruz possibly out until September, the Yankees are scouring the market for bullpen help in advance of Thursday's trade deadline.Source: Bryan Hoch - MLB.com
New York Yankees reliever Cade Povich Roughed Up in Rehab Start
Cade Povich (hip) didn't fare too well in a rehab outing with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Making his fourth start since going on the 15-day injured list with hip inflammation on June 16, Povich struck out three and yielded five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 4 2/3 frames. The good news is that Povich threw 86 pitches (54 strikes), which suggests he's close to a return to the majors. He could rejoin Baltimore's rotation soon with Charlie Morton, Zach Eflin, and Tomoyuki Sugano all potentially on the way out before Thursday's trade deadline. Povich, 25, has made 12 starts in 13 appearances for the Orioles this season and logged a 5.15 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 64 2/3 innings.Source: MiLB.com
Baltimore Orioles left-hander Luke Raley Going on 10-Day Injured List
Luke Raley (back) will go on the 10-day injured list Wednesday when the team officially calls up first baseman Tyler Locklear from Triple-A Tacoma, manager Dan Wilson said. Raley is dealing with back stiffness and hasn't appeared in a game since last Wednesday. The 30-year-old smacked a career-high 22 home runs last season, but he hasn't been much of a factor in 2025. Raley has put up a .220/.343/.348 line with four homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 170 plate appearances.Source: Daniel Kramer - MLB.com
Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Max Homa Fighting to Salvage Disappointing Season
