Bears Defense 2020 Outlook: Good Enough to Win Games Alone
5 years agoThe Bears Defense is very strong this season as per usual. The front-seven is arguably the best in the league after replacing Leonard Floyd with Robert Quinn opposite Khalil Mack. The interior is huge, talented, and returning a healthy Akiem Hicks. Roquan Smith will look to continue improving next to veteran Danny Trevathan. One significant note on this front-seven is the lack of depth. They are not prepared to lose starters. The lack of draft picks in recent seasons is finally catching up to them and could cripple this team. As things stand, the team should be fine and win a few games but with maybe two major defensive losses, the tank will ensue. Their secondary is above-average thanks to Eddie Johnson and Kyle Fuller but aside from that there are a lot of question marks. The CB2 as things stand is Steelers' first-round bust Artie Burns but second-round CB Jaylon Johnson can take over if he performs well enough and stays healthy. Another big concern remains with the offense, which is one of the worst in the league. They may force the defense into consistently playing with their backs on the wall, and allowing more points than expected while tiring them out in the meantime. It is fine to draft the Bears D/ST but do not expect the defense from a few years ago after the Khalil Mack acquisition.
