This recent heat wave in the northeast provided plenty of motivation to sit by the fan and mine the waiver wire, so you won't join me? The world of baseball continues to spin on and on, and we have to try our best to get a read on the trajectory. Let's make the most of June before the season's midpoint hits us over the head!
We're gathered here to chat about some players who are making, or about to potentially make, a splash. But are they truly worth it for you and your team's situation? Well, this is our chance to weigh that up, so let's dive into my waiver wire targets for Week 11.
We'll use Yahoo rostered rates up to 40%, listing players in an approximate priority order (check our full waiver article for up to 70% rostered!). Please note that most statistics are gathered before Saturday's games, though I'll catch key news and happenings as I write. You can find me on X (@NMariano53) to ask me anything else that stands between you and a championship!
Nick's Hitter Waiver Wire Targets
Catcher: Gabriel Moreno (37% rostered), Carter Jensen (38%), Francisco Alvarez (15%), Alejandro Kirk (24%), Jimmy Crooks (1%), Keibert Ruiz (21%), Endy Rodriguez (2%), Victor Caratini (2%), Joe Mack (1%), Daniel Susac (2%), Luis Torrens (1%), Kyle Teel (8%)
Near the top of the rostered band that we investigate, you’ll find Moreno still kicking around, albeit after a quiet week at the dish. And Jansen, who has been fighting through an extended slump of his own, but is getting precious volume opportunities as Kansas City’s leadoff man in seven of their last eight games.
E. Rodriguez and Henry Davis both popped this week thanks to some timely power, with Rodriguez chipping in two steals alongside his first homer over the last seven days. Including Saturday, Rodriguez has made five starts compared to Davis’ three in Pittsburgh’s last eight tilts.
Crooks has sat in three of St. Louis’ last seven games, going 3-for-12 with two RBI in his first four games this year. He should continue to settle into the bigs, and we’d expect the notable power to make a statement for two-catcher leagues soon.
Mack finally launched his first major-league home run on Tuesday, which is part of his logging a hit in four of his last six games going into the weekend. It has been a quiet first 25 games of his MLB career, but he remains worth monitoring. It is too bad that we haven’t seen him attempt a steal yet after nine swipes across 112 minor-league games last year.
Caratini and Torrens just had strong weeks as they continue to hold down the fort with the usual starters on the IL. Alvarez could return this week and knock Torrens back to the bench, so prioritize Caratini here.
Tyler Stephenson’s brief hot streak gave way to an ugly 1-for-16 spell, so I know the clamoring for Alfredo Duno only grows. I remain conservative on my expectations for Cincy to make the call any time soon, but the ceiling is worth a stash if you’re desperate.
Teel has resumed hitting off a tee and participating in some catching drills after returning to running about a week ago. It’s good news, but his rehab could easily eat up the rest of June, so keep him on the watch list for now.
