Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/30) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the August 31st edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 30th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • How close were you to dropping Ozzie Albies in FAAB? C’mon, you can tell me?
  • Reach out to the J.D. Martinez owner in your Dynasty league. He shouldn’t cost much.
  • Gary Sanchez (six), Kyle Schwarber (nine) & Willy Adames (four) all head to Denny’s for the big boy breakfast (The Grand Slam). I’d recommend the Uncle Hershel’s at Cracker Barrel. Ask for the apple butter.
  • Mike Moustakas w/ 1B eligibility too? DYNOMITE!!
  • Robinson Cano is only 48% rostered?! Ageists are blind to 5 HR, .379 AVG.
  • Brandon Nimmo, put this on to keep the sun out of your eyes. It’s a Golden Sombrero!!! Four strikeouts.
  • Deivi Garcia w/impressing showing.
  • Seven K w/ one ER is nice, but c’mon Seth Lugo. 3.2 IP? Make him a follower.
  • “I didn’t order this.” Yes, you did. “No, I didn’t.” You ordered the Luis Castillo. You get 5 IP, 4 ER, 7K w/ 4.10 ERA (3.02 FIP). A little discount, maybe.
  • Yes, that Jose Quintana. 3 IP, 1 ER, 6 K. Don’t rush out just yet.
  • The red koolaid has always been sweet. Glad you’re enjoying it. Ian Happ (nine) w/two chugs of OH YEAH!
  • You can still make up ground in HR. Jonathan Schoop (eight) is only 35% rostered.
  • Jason Heyward w/two tickets…back to the bench. Nope, not gonna do it. Fools gold.
  • Jeimer Candelario hitting .346 w/ two long balls in the last seven games. Yep, I’m just sticking my big toe in these waters.
  • Given a 12-run lead, Blake Snell (third win) still makes you sweat. 5 IP, 3 ER, 5 K. Whew.
  • Tsut-Tsut- Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (fifth HR). That is all, Phil Collins. Thank you for the remake.
  • Hey, you 4%, why do you still have Austin Voth in your buggy? (2 IP, 5 ER).
  • With sand between his toes, Rafael Devers (six) walks up to the counter & orders Two Pina Coladas.
  • Impatient much? Bobby Dalbec w/ first souvenir. Put it on your hotel desk, kid.
  • Yin & Yang. Whit Merrifield turns on the speed & brute strength (seven HR/seven SB).
  • Nick Madrigal was 3-for-4 w/ SB. Do not buy for power. The over/under is at two.
  • “Bottom of the 10th, two on, one out, Luis Robert at the plate….he hits one in the air…back..back..it’s a home run (nine).” Just like he practiced when he was 11 years old.
  • Winner! Winner! Adam Wainwright feasted. 9 IP, 2 ER, 9 K.
  • Ryan Mountcastle is getting the hang of things. Two trips to the panhandle.
  • Dane Dunning is a must grab, everywhere. 16% rostered. Stop what you’re doing & go. Just my two cents.
  • Yes, you saw that right. Christian Yelich is batting .195. **Shoulder shrug**
  • Does 5-for-10 w/ two homers indicate a heating up period for Josh Bell or just an affinity for Milwaukee?
  • There are 12% of the people suffering through El Coffee’s acidity. Gregory Polanco batting .045 last week.
  • Clutch? No, I’m looking for the antonym. Ryan Braun left six men on base.
  • That surprising sting? That was Aaron Civale. You thought it was automatic. 6 IP, 5 ER. Ugh.
  • Get out of the way. It’s a BULLinger. Charging through everyone. Cody Bellinger has six long balls, 22 R+RBI, 2 SB & .291 AVG in the last 15 games.
  • **Big Grins** Corey Seager (nine) makes you wanna Jump Around, Jump Around!
  • The horses run wild in Texas. Chris Paddack w/ 6 IP, 2 ER, 8 K.
  • It is odd to see Fernando Tatis Jr. steal a base, without also hitting a HR. He must not have been too hungry.
  • Trent Grisham story cont.: Beau & Josephine have tried to seclude themselves on their ranch in the hills. They like their privacy. From time to time, though, Beau starts a bonfire that can be seen far & wide. It was a 435-foot monster. It’s the eighth bonfire Beau has built this year.
  • Eric Hosmer (seventh HR) scoffs at the idea of a replacement.
  • Well played, Shogo Akiyama. You do nothing all week and then you are 2-for-3 w/ a SB. You’re trying to make this choice difficult.
  • Michael Pineda is back with a start this week. Keep him on your close watch list.
  • Why?! Why would the Braves say, “Tommy Milone, it’s a short hop over to PHI. Come over & pitch for us.”
  • Kyle Lewis (eight) is a difficult man to contain. 105.8 mph exit velo.
  • Are you upset that Shohei Ohtani clogs the UT spot if he keeps snagging bags (five)?
  • Every time he nods off, Eduardo Escobar (fourth HR) jolts himself back away to keep afloat. I’d say .200 is still drowning.
  • Rhys Hoskins getting his groove back. He has four HR, .357 AVG in the last seven games.
  • How greedy are you that 4 HR/3 SB, 36 R+RBI, .280 AVG isn’t good enough? Andrew McCutchen is only 61% rostered.

  • Early Monday morning. It can be a great one if you want it to be. Get some exercise, hydrate, and start the week off right. I hope FAAB was fun and you got most of the players you wanted without busting your pocket.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
