After what looked like an incoming runaway at the halfway mark at The Masters, Augusta National did what it seems to do every year: create drama and excitement coming down the stretch on Sunday. Rory McIlroy gave up a six-shot lead on Saturday, but steadied himself enough to be the only one to take charge on the second nine of the final round to claim his second consecutive green jacket.

Nearly all of the men chasing last week are in the field for this week's RBC Heritage at Harbour Town. It is the fourth Signature Event on the schedule and is one of the more unique courses on the PGA Tour. While not everyone's cup of tea, this has been a popular tournament for many years, with a high pedigree of winners to prove it. There is also well-established and consistent course history for many names in the field, so this piece is definitely worth your time.

2026 RBC Heritage

The RBC Heritage event has been around since 1969 and has been a mainstay in April since 1983. It is notoriously slotted following the year's first major and asks players to do many of the same things as the property in southeast Georgia. Many of golf's biggest names have won here, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Payne Stewart, and more.

Another interesting note is that this course yields a ton of repeat winners and players who go on to win many times. 10 players have won this event more than once, with six of them winning either back-to-back or two of three years. No doubt this is one of the more gimmicky layouts that pros will face all year, but once you figure out the recipe for success, players become a factor seemingly every year.

Justin Thomas is set to defend his title in 2025, where he won in a playoff over Andrew Novak. With three playoffs in the last four years, fans are sure to be treated to as much drama as what unfolded over the weekend at Augusta. Get ready for another fun week of PGA Tour action!

Harbour Town Golf Links

Harbour Town requires a hefty commitment to course management that is even a step above what is found at most tour events. Pete Dye created the ultimate point-A-to-point-B layout with this one; tiny greens mixed with holes that have a ton of curvature around dense, tree-lined edges. Sometimes, even parts of the fairway can leave you blocked out from attacking greens.

If guys are to win here, they'd better be hitting it where they're looking. The different risks and shot types that these links ask of you are fun and intricate as long as you have all the tools in your belt to accomplish the task.

At just over 7,200 yards and painstakingly woven through the South Carolina low-country, distance is totally irrelevant this week. This place is totally accuracy-driven, both off the tee and in the iron play. Approach distances will test a player's low and mid-iron game, as 61% of approach distances come from 125-200 yards, as well as reachable par-5s for those willing to hoist their shots over trees and water.

Scoring hangs around -15 to -20 under par for the week, so guys can't afford to take their foot off the gas pedal for too long. Avoiding the disastrous holes is the real concern, as those who get out of position can get things going sideways in a hurry. With that in mind, there is a heavy reliance on the short game to keep players' rounds afloat. No player inside the top seven of last year's tournament averaged less than 0.34 strokes gained around the green for four rounds.

The close calls that Patrick Cantlay has had at Harbour Town through the years are basically an annual occurrence. He seems destined to capture the victory here at some point, and there's no reason this couldn't be the week. The 34-year-old is coming off a T12 finish at The Masters, where he led the field in strokes gained around the green and ranked seventh on approach.

It's been his ball striking that's carried him around this week's course, as he's averaged 1.110 strokes gained on approach and 0.625 strokes gained off the tee over the last 18 rounds played. The former Bruin possesses the third-highest total strokes gained average over the last five seasons at this event, and seems poised to again be in the conversation come Thursday.

We are coming to Harbour Town at the perfect time for the world no. 1 to lock in and figure out what has been leading to the sloggy starts to almost every tournament since winning in the desert. His round one scoring average (70.57) is over two strokes worse than his next closest round's average.

Nevertheless, everyone is fully aware that if and when Scheffler gets everything back in sync, no one can stop him. Ball striking numbers have been ridiculous at this layout in his three career appearances, leading the field in off-the-tee and on-approach strokes gained average.

No one has displayed more unwavering precision over the last four years than the former Texas Longhorn, and there aren't many places that demand it more than here. Look for Scheffler to make another title run this week.

Jordan Spieth

Like other prominent players throughout the tournament's history, Jordan Spieth nearly went back-to-back here in 2022 and 2023. The man with the highest driving accuracy volatility has managed to keep things in check at Harbour Town. He's gained strokes across the board, with his highest average coming from approach play. The forced layups and the way the golf course can handicap certain players have helped Spieth play much more within himself.

The 32-year-old is coming off a T12 at Augusta, where he averaged 1.74 strokes gained on approach and 0.88 around the green for the week. If any of that form stays around, we could be watching Spieth putting on another plaid jacket.

Russell Henley

For a course all about precision and making your hay on and around the greens, it is a bit surprising that it took Russell Henley as long as it did to become a regular threat at this event. However, over the last five seasons, the 37-year-old has been lurking nearly every year. He was in prime position to chase down J.T. last year after 36 holes and never got anything going on the weekend.

Henley is coming off an impressive T3 at The Masters, leading the field in strokes gained on approach. The accuracy off the tee, combined with the short game and putting prowess, makes the former Bulldog an intriguing DFS play ahead of Thursday.
