Joey Wentz Finding Success With His Cutter

Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Joey Wentz has struggled this season with a 5.02 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched. However, since being acquired by the Atlanta Braves on July 11, he has adjusted the grip on his cutter, which he says has fueled his recent form, according to David O'Brien of The Athletic. The Braves desperately need the help, with Chris Sale (ribs), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Grant Holmes (elbow), AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow), and Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) all on the injured list. Wentz should continue to get opportunities down the stretch, as the Braves are quickly falling out of playoff contention as they are currently 14 games back in the NL Wild Card Race. At this moment, Wentz is not a recommended waiver wire pickup; however, in deeper leagues, he may be worth considering if he continues to pitch well.
