Early 2024 Fantasy Football Superflex Rankings And Strategies

Kyler Murray - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL DFS Picks

Scott Engel provides his early fantasy football rankings for your 2024 drafts. He supplies analysis on his Superflex rankings to help you for fantasy drafts.

Fantasy football players are already looking ahead to their 2024 drafts. So, I have released some of my early 2024 seasonal rankings, along with those from the RotoBaller staff, which can be found here.

In this feature, I share some of my insights when building the 2024 Superflex rankings. When should you target the QB1? Different methods of constructing a roster in the early rounds of a Superflex draft are highlighted, and I help you map out a plan for the first few picks.

Below the Superflex rankings analysis, you will find my latest Superflex ranks, powered by FantasyPros, via the positional tabs. Other positions are featured and will be adjusted as I roll out these early rankings by position. The ranks lean to PPR formats for purposes of the non-QB positions.

Early Fantasy Football Superflex Rankings Thoughts and Approaches

Many high-stakes fantasy leaguers have an immediate desire to consult Superflex rankings. The Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) has already opened up seasonal drafts for the 2024 season. Others who want to begin formulating their draft plans can review the ranks and strategic suggestions included here.

Last season, seven of the top 12 and 13 of the top-24 overall scorers in PPR leagues were quarterbacks. My Superflex rankings nearly mirror such results, as eight of my top-12 players and 11 of the top-24 overall are QBs.

There are obviously varying approaches to executing a successful Superflex draft. There is no one surefire way to draft, as your picks will depend on the flow of selections, which is different in every league draft. Adjusting on the fly is essential, and I usually take one of two routes in a Superflex draft.

My preferred way to go is to grab one QB right away and then consider waiting for my second QB in the third or fourth round. As long as I get two QBs in the first four rounds, I will usually be satisfied with the results. Occasionally, though, I might opt for two QBs in the first two rounds depending on who may be available. If two of my top-nine guys fall to my draft slot, I will indeed consider the double-up approach to start the draft.

Some fantasy players may elect to load up at other positions and wait a bit at QB, but that requires some restraint when so many players at the position are coming off the board early. My most comfortable way to go in is to nab the best QB I can in the first round and then decide when to pick the second player at the position based on the flow of picks.

Who you are playing against can also make a difference. In high-stakes formats such as the FFPC, the QBs will likely fly off the board pretty quickly. When competing against those who may be new to the Superflex format, as it is still gaining new players all the time, more WRs, RBs, and TEs will be taken in the earliest rounds and a two-QB start could prove to be irresistible.

Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson are a consensus top four, and if you are picking in the top five and get a shot at any of them, it is just too hard to pass. There is a definite drop-off to the next tier, which begins with two second-year guys who are very promising, but are less proven.

Christian McCaffrey is the dividing line between the top two QB tiers, and if someone else takes him in the top four, that sort of move can drop one of the top-shelf QBs down a spot in the top five. I would not let McCaffrey slip past the fifth spot, though. He is in a clear tier of his own at RB as the one firm and established superstar with an unquestionably strong outlook. I don’t expect McCaffrey to make it past the fifth pick in most Superflex drafts.

Anthony Richardson and C.J. Stroud have the upside to finish as top-three QBs, so target them for sure when you land a pick in the six to eight range. Later in the first round, it is fine to take one of the top WRs available and then target your QB1 on the Round 2 turn. After the top-seven QBs are taken, I would likely opt for CeeDee Lamb or Tyreek Hill and then take a QB for sure with the next pick.

Dak Prescott and Joe Burrow represent the end of the grouping I prefer to target in the first round. When the draft slot is 12th to 14th, depending on league size, if both of those players are taken, I will likely opt for the best WR on the board as the first pick. I might move to get one of the top-five WRs late in the first round or early in the second round if possible.

Kyler Murray has upside again working with Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jordan Love and Brock Purdy represent the end of the QBs I will want to ideally target as a No. 1 player at the position. You can certainly make a case for Tua Tagovailoa as a final QB1, although I prefer to put him atop the QB2 ladder. Getting the Miami passer as a QB2, if possible, will be a very satisfying early draft result if it happens for you.

The 24 to 36 range is where I will likely strongly consider a QB2, as getting one of the top 18, ending with Jayden Daniels, would be the approach leaned to. Although if anyone wants to take on Aaron Rodgers, who is my 20th-ranked QB near the end of the top 50 overall, he is obviously a pure wild card who could finish as a back-end QB1. Once we get outside of that range, we are taking chances on guys to outperform their values. The definite end of my QB2 range is with Baker Mayfield, at QB26 and 77 overall. You should not be waiting on the QB2 to the point where it is past the 70th pick.

Executing a successful Superflex draft is all about where to fit in the top two QBs. Using my rankings in early drafts will provide you with a solid basis to work from.
