Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:

Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder) is officially listed as questionable to play in Week 2 on Sunday against the hosting New Orleans Saints, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports. Jennnings injured his shoulder in the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks and did not return before missing the first two practices of the week on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 28-year-old was able to get in a limited practice on Friday, which gives him a chance to suit up for the extremely banged-up Niners. If Jennings plays, both he and Ricky Pearsall should be peppered with targets with tight end George Kittle (hamstring) out.

However, quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) is also out, which makes Jennings a pretty volatile and unpredictable fantasy option this weekend if he ends up playing. The former seventh-rounder had only two grabs for 16 yards in the opener before getting hurt.

Khalil Shakir, WR, Buffalo Bills

After sitting out most of the summer with a high-ankle sprain, Buffalo Bills slot receiver Khalil Shakir was effective in a Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Shakir ranked second among Bills receivers in snaps (60) and caught six of nine targets for 64 yards.

He'll take on a familiar opponent this week in the division-rival New York Jets, who gave up the ninth-most fantasy points to receivers in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday. To their credit, the Jets stymied Shakir in two matchups a year ago, yielding a combined five catches on eight targets for 44 yards.

Nevertheless, with Shakir having totaled between six and 12 targets in 14 straight games since last season, he should have opportunities to produce on Sunday. Thanks to his rapport with quarterback Josh Allen, he's RotoBaller's 40th-ranked WR for Week 2.

Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and the whole team's offense will try to erase an ugly Week 1 defeat in Indianapolis in Week 2 when they host the Patriots. Hill led the team in targets and receiving yards while tying with Jaylen Waddle for the team lead in receptions. He finished with four catches for 40 yards on six targets.

The overall performance was a letdown, even though he remains the team's top target. Even with Waddle sidelined for part of the game with a shoulder injury, Hill still couldn't make much impact. Waddle isn't on the injury report and should be good to go against the Patriots, and Hill will look to bounce back against a team he totaled 11 catches for 117 yards in two games against last season. Tua Tagovailoa didn't take many deep shots to Hill or anyone else in Week 1, and the Dolphins need to get things turned around in a hurry after their lackluster Week 1.

Hill's name has also been popular in trade rumors this week, so plenty of drama still surrounds the 31-year-old receiver. His fantasy managers will hope he turns all the drama into fuel for a big game against the Patriots. He's the WR30 in RotoBaller's Week 2 rankings, meaning he's a low-end WR3 or flex play.

Calvin Austin III, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III will line up against the visiting Seattle Seahawks this Sunday in Week 2. The University of Memphis product will look to build off of his opening weekend performance against a Seahawks defense that yielded the seventh-most passing yards in Week 1.

Austin III is an elite deep threat, but has never gotten enough of a target share to make a consistent fantasy impact. That could be changing in 2025, though, as he was the only other Steelers wideout aside from DK Metcalf to record more than ten snaps (45) in their win over the Jets.

There could still be some up-and-down weeks here when the team finally gets their ground game going, but the 26-year-old should see a steady stream of targets as long as he holds his current position and has a higher floor than in his previous seasons. Austin III is RotoBaller's PPR WR69 for his outing with Seattle.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp should be avoided in fantasy lineups in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, Kupp should be avoided until the Seahawks prove that they can make anything happen in the passing game outside of wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. That day may very well come.

Kupp's role in the slot is very valuable in offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's offense. However, the Seahawks will need time to implement the new system with all the new pieces fully. Kupp's volume will be one to watch in Week 2. He only received three targets in Week 1 with quarterback Sam Darnold locking in Smith-Njigba.

As the offensive chemistry grows, Darnold will begin spreading the ball around more. Once Kupp's targets increase, he should find himself back on the flex radar. However, based on where he was drafted, you likely have plenty of other flex options in the short term.
