Will Cedric Tillman start for the Cleveland Browns when he returns? John breaks down the Cedric Tillman return timeline for Week 9 and fantasy football outlook.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman (hamstring) has now been out of action for four weeks. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4.
A lot can change in the NFL in four weeks, so it's reasonable to wonder if any of the other Browns receivers have broken out in the meantime, or are set to take on more prominent roles in the offense.
Tillman isn't exactly some elite WR who's secured a spot as his team's top target no matter what, so will he be the starting WR when he returns for the Browns? Let's dive in.

Will Cedric Tillman Start For The Browns When He Returns?
He'll definitely be one of the team's starting wide receivers, but there's reason to believe he'll also step back into the WR1 role, however valuable that ends up being. Cleveland's other receivers have failed to impress in Tillman's absence.
In fact, with new starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel, it's been the tight ends that have been valuable fantasy assets. Harold Fannin Jr. and David Njoku have combined for all four of Gabriel's passing touchdowns since he became the starter.

Zero Browns receivers have been impressive in this time frame. WR Jerry Jeudy continues to be exactly who he was without gunslinger Jameis Winston throwing him the ball -- he has yet to score double-digit PPR fantasy points since Week 1, and was blanked last week.
Jerry Jeudy without Jameis Winston since 2024:
+16 games
+124 Targets
+61 Catches
+683 Yards
+1 Touchdown
+8.4 PPR FPts per gameWinston still has people hung up on this guy but he is garbage for fantasy and not great in real life football either

Jeudy has been ineffective, as has rookie Isaiah Bond, who had a gradually increasing snap share early in the season and looked to be stepping into a bigger role. Bond was targeted four times in Week 8, but didn't catch any of those passes.
Tillman has looked better on film than both Bond and Jeudy, in my opinion. The other Browns wide receivers haven't really been factors this season. This is a low passing volume offense that runs through the TEs, which is pretty miserable for WRs in fantasy, obviously.
Cedric Tillman Fantasy Football Outlook
Tillman might struggle to be relevant outside of very deep fantasy leagues. Cleveland's offense is a bit of a dumpster fire right now. They don't have a long-term answer at QB, or a short-term answer, either. They traded away their original starting quarterback, Joe Flacco (shoulder), after he struggled early.

Gabriel is one of the NFL's worst starting quarterbacks. He was a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and lacks experience. He also, according to all the NFL teams that passed on him twice in the draft, lacks the chops to be a long-term starter in the NFL.
Situation is massively important for fantasy football. Good players in bad situations tend to under-perform, sometimes to a shocking degree, while mediocre talents by every possible measure and film evaluation can play quite well in elite situations.

Tillman is definitely the team's best separator and route-runner, though, and he could at least have a nice role when he comes back. But it will likely come with a ton of volatility. And Gabriel's passing numbers have been absolutely abysmal. It's hard to support multiple fantasy-relevant pass-catchers when the QB throws for under 200 yards.
