ANALYSIS: After struggling to find a stable No. 2 WR throughout all of 2024, the Commanders opted to acquire Deebo Samuel Sr. from the San Francisco 49ers during the early stages of the offseason. Even though Samuel was coming off a disappointing season in 2024, he was among the sport's top wideouts the previous season and is in a great position to bounce back, given the offensive environment in D.C.
In his first game as a Commander, Samuel did not disappoint as he caught a team-high seven passes for a team-high 77 yards. He also led the team in targets, with 10. In addition, on the ground, Samuel took one carry for a 19-yard touchdown.
In 2023, Samuel totaled over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and found the back of the endzone 13 times. Playing with Jayden Daniels, Samuel has the upside to return to that level in 2025.
With Terry McLaurin slowly working his way back into the offense after a lengthy holdout in training camp, Samuel figures to lead the team's targets once again on Thursday evening. He projects to be a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 in all formats, facing the Green Bay Packers.
