Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (5/2) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the May 3rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the May 2nd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Father, Husband & Teammate. "No, Honey. I'll throw a complete game & still make it in time for the baby's birth. No problem at all." ~ Max Scherzer (9 IP, 1 ER, 9 K).
  • Kris Bryant (nine) having fun now. The first time around the bases, the Reds infielders could hear him singin' "I'm hot, sticky sweet; from my head to my feet." The second time around he said, "Do you take sugar, one lump or two!?" Now they get it.
  • AJ Pollock orders extra bacon when he enjoys his Grand Slam breakfast. Matt Beaty invites himself to the table.
  • Our NL HR Champ, Nasty Castellanos (nine), thrives off the punishment. Yours. 5-for-6, 4 runs, 4 RBI.
  • Awww, all the Mookie Betts, Corey Seager, & Justin Turner investors expected big things when they saw 16 runs. Keep your head up.
  • Masterful. Julio Urias slices & dices. 7 IP, 1 ER, 10 K.
  • Harrison Bader (one) just arrived & he's already destroying things. 425-ft wrecking ball.
  • Corey Kluber looked like a rock star. (8 IP, 10 K. Thank you, DETROIT!!
  • We didn't start the fire, it was always burnin', since Alex Kirilloff started swingin'. Fourth HR & young man just got here.
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa has remnants of Popeyes Combo Meal all over his face when he slides into the 5 HR/5 SB club. He brought none to share, not even a biscuit.
  • Nobody move, Austin Riley is 4-for-4. Just let him hit where he's at for a bit.
  • Javier Baez sent up a 434-foot flare to help identify the imposters among us. bandwagon riders acting like they've been here all along. Seventh HR to go w/sixth SB.
  • Zach Plesac tightened it up (5.2 IP, 6 K), but he can't help but be generous (four BB).
  • Why does Tucker Barnhart get no love? Third HR, .306 AVG. Here you go: LOVE!
  • Maybe the Rays aren't comfortable getting wet & just want to dip their toe in: Austin Meadows (fifth HR) & Randy Arozarena (third SB)
  • "He's running in spring." Didn't we hear that? Yoan Moncada didn't hear it either.
  • Why would you do something like that to the kid? Who has Alzheimer's that forgot Alec Bettinger was still out there? 4 IP, 11 ER.
  • Ian Happ had a great day at the plate. Well wishes for speedy recovery.
  • Jesus Luzardo playing video games & breaks pinkie. I understand it; I get serious when Pac-Man is on.
  • Not me, YOU, drafted Victor Robles for the SB. One is the loneliest number. 3 CS.
  • Ryan Zimmerman (fourth HR) drifts along in undervalued waters.
  • Ever feel like you're in an abnormal reality. Also, Mike Foltynewicz was 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 K vs BOS. SEA next looks juicy.
  • After eight SB, Ramon Laureano needs to catch his breath. Zero SB in 17 games. Four laser shots during that time.
  • Trevor Story, come back. 4 HR, 2 SB, .308 AVG in last 15 games, including a delicious Zaxby's combo meal. Please don't be seriously injured, for everyone's sake.
  • Pimpin ain't easy. Shohei Ohtani struts his stuff into the 5 HR/ 5 SB club, but doesn't plan on staying long. (eight HR/six SB).
  • 5 IP, 5 ER, 6 SB belongs to which SP, Kevin Gausman or Joe Musgrove? Yep, Musgrove. Gausman too busy keeping things tidy. 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 K.

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Good mornin', good mornin'. Yep, it's time to get moving. You had all weekend. You enjoyed some good weather, delicious food, and gorgeous baseball with family and friends. Now it's time to put in the work to earn more good times like these. Work ethic. Preach it & practice it.
  • I hope everyone got all the free-agent goodness for their fantasy baseball teams. If not, there's always tomorrow or next weekend, whichever is applicable for your league. Just be ready. Always put out the best roster you can, daily and/or weekly. Don't forget to enjoy the ride. Avoid being stressed out for six months.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
