Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Paul DeJong - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (4/19) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the April 20th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 19th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Hello darkness, my old friend. ~ Lucas Giolito (1 IP, 7 ER). Don't worry, TEX will probably bring him close to their warm bosom in a few days.
  • Acts of service is Paul DeJong's (five) love language. Two more tasks off the just-because list, including making a Grand Slam breakfast in bed. (And no, I'm not worried about .189).
  • Nathan Eovaldi can be your champion, you just have to let him in your life. (6.1 IP, 4 ER, 10 K)
  • Jack Flaherty rolling to 3-0. YES! He is awesome. **Psst, you're not worried about his K-BB (14.4%), SIERA (4.19), and Swinging Strike (10.6%) rates?** Get out of my ear w/ all that psst..psst!
  • He's no Will The Thrill, but sometimes you have the need to sacrifice the body for a Brandon Belt homer.
  • "Someone's been hitting my homers," growled Papa bear. Paul Goldschmidt (two) indeed was launching his 400-foot homers.
  • Attention all passengers, please attach the drop-down oxygen mask to yourself first before trying to help those that roster Joe Ross (4.1 IP, 10 ER) or Giolito.
  • Bryce Harper (one) was hesitant, but once you start stealing, it's tough to stop.....they say.
  • That big 'ol bat is hot, but not for a Louisiana man. Justin Williams (two) w/ 410-ft care package back to the boot.
  • Hello. Is it me you're looking for? Yes, Jose Abreu. It is.
  • Tim Anderson is majoring in speed (three) in college.
  • So many wouldn't throw J.D. Martinez (six) a life vest in 2020, but now they want him to captain their ship. Pfff, get back to your little dinghy.
  • Kevin Gausman's generosity is abundant. 4 BB. He still gets the W. 6 IP, 5 K.
  • Danny Duffy mixing four pitches to 44% Whiff rate.
  • "He can still hear you, even if he's not responsive." Hi, Jorge Soler (.156 AVG). We miss you. You are strong. You can fight this.
  • Corey Seager is fourth and climbing the 95+ MPH hits leaderboard. Third HR.
  • You Shall Not Pass!!! Josh Fleming w/ 100% LOB rate. Hot damn.
  • Kohei Arihara glides past the Angels?! Ummm, can you do it vs White Sox next?
  • Age is sneaky. Albert Pujols using it to his advantage (one SB)
  • Give him some smelling salt. Bundy. Dylan Bundy! You just got ran over by an armadillo. Are you ok? 5 IP, 5 ER, 6 K)
  • Yes, with this deluxe edition of Yermin Mercedes, you also get some time on the mound. 1 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB).
  • Joe Musgrove (7 IP, 2 ER, 13 K) keeps climbing. It seems like he'll be in the 3rd round of 2022 drafts.
  • I need a hero! I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night. Brandon Woodruff (6 IP, 1 ER, 7 K) is that man.
  • Marmolejos! Jose Marmolejos! Porque mi vida yo la prefiero vivir así. Third HR.

Swing & Misses

  • Joe Musgrove 27
  • Nathan Eovaldi 19
  • Danny Duffy 18
  • Zach Burdi 15
  • Kevin Gausman 14
  • Dylan Bundy 13
  • Dustin May 13
  • Joe Ross 13
  • Brandon Woodruff 12
  • Lucas Giolito 5 (16%)

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • It's Tuesday, but not just any other Tuesday. This is the day you make real changes to your life. Make decisions that move you out of any rut or complacency. Don't mistake movement for progress. Let's get going. Always strive for better!
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
