We're past the first month of our season, and yet much still feels like it is up in the air. Leaguewide trends are still settling into place with ABS, injuries keep hammering us, and the hope around call-ups springs eternal. Whether you're starting hot or find yourself in the cellar, we've got a long road ahead of us.
And that means that we cannot stop looking for ways to improve. Complacency is often punished here, as your depth will be tested at some point. Stay ready for anything with my waiver wire targets for Week 6.
We'll use Yahoo rostered rates up to 40%, listing players in a rough priority order (check our full waiver article for up to 70% rostered!). Please note that most statistics are gathered before Saturday's games, though I'll catch key news and happenings as I write. You can find me on X (@NMariano53) to ask me anything not addressed here.
Nick's Hitter Waiver Wire Targets
Catcher: Carter Jensen (40% rostered), Moises Ballesteros (31%), Ryan Jeffers (24%), Dalton Rushing (27%), Samuel Basallo (23%), Francisco Alvarez (28%), J.T. Realmuto (14%), Kyle Teel (10%), Gabriel Moreno (10%), Danny Jansen (1%), Pedro Pages (1%), Henry Davis (0%), Drew Romo (0%)
Jeffers had a nice week after we highlighted his cleanup opportunity last time. The Twins backstop bashed his fourth homer of the year on Thursday and even tossed in a steal on Monday, bringing a .301 average into the weekend. It’s notable that he only sat once over his last eight games.
Realmuto was activated on Saturday and could offer worthwhile volume, assuming you believe that Philadelphia’s offense warms up. Moreno was also brought back on Friday following his oblique injury.
Pages is still resting 2-3 times per week, but socking two homers with a steal over the past week is quite the lift from your No. 2 C slot. Romo had that flashy two-homer game, though he still won’t play enough for most. The team is taking its time with Teel, who hasn’t started on a rehab assignment yet.
