Andy's NHL power rankings for all 32 teams heading into Week 13 of 2025. Where does each NHL team stand in our latest power rankings for the 2025 season?
Week 12 of the NHL season is in the books, and it's time to update our power rankings. This week, most teams had a smaller slate of action with the holiday break, but still turned in impressive performances.
The Buffalo Sabres continued their dominant stretch and are making a legitimate case to be in playoff discussions. This week, we also saw two more editions of the Battle of Alberta.
All statistics and team records mentioned are updated as of Monday, December 29. Who were the biggest risers and fallers from this past week? Let's dive in!
No. 32 - Chicago Blackhawks
Last Week Ranking - 32
The Blackhawks entered Week 13 riding a five-game losing streak and saw it hit six games following a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. Following the holiday break, the Blackhawks finally snapped their skid with an impressive 4-3 shootout victory over the Western powerhouse Dallas Stars.
On Sunday, they took a massive step back, falling to the Penguins in an embarrassing 7-3 loss. With Connor Bedard (biceps) on the shelf, Tyler Bertuzzi has picked up the offensive slack, netting three goals across their last three games.
No. 31 - Winnipeg Jets
Last Week Ranking - 30
Following a busy four-game week before the holiday break, the Jets only had one game in Week 12. On Saturday, they faced the potent Minnesota Wild on the road and escaped the trip with an overtime loss. In this contest, the Jets held a one-goal lead heading into the final frame but were unable to protect it.
They will continue their road trip on Monday, heading to Detroit to face the Red Wings. Overall, they sit at 2-5-3 in their last 10 and just 34 total points, tying them with the Blackhawks for the second-lowest in the sport.
No. 30- Vancouver Canucks
Last Week Ranking - 28
After an impressive showing in Week 12 when they picked up all possible six points on their Eastern road trip, they saw their momentum quickly stall this past week. They finished their road trip with a match in Philadelphia on Monday and fell 5-2 in regulation. Then on Saturday, they saw their slide continue, losing 6-3 to the San Jose Sharks.
While their Week 11 surge suggested they may be turning the corner, they reverted to form this week and took a dip in our rankings. Their 33 points are the lowest in the league.
No. 29 - Columbus Blue Jackets
Last Week Ranking - 29
The Blue Jackets began their week with the second half of their Western California trip. After falling to the Ducks last weekend, the Blue Jackets rebounded well on Monday, defeating the Kings by a score of 3-1. Mason Marchment led the way in this victory, scoring two goals and registering four shots on goal.
They concluded their week with an impressive 4-2 victory over the Islanders, a top team in their division. In this win, the Blue Jackets scored three goals in the final frame to earn the two points. While they carry a two-game winning streak into Week 13, they still hold a rough 3-6-1 in their last 10 and sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
No. 28 - Seattle Kraken
Last Week Ranking - 31
The Kraken got back in the win column last Saturday with a 4-2 victory over the Sharks and continued their winning ways in Week 12. They began their week with a 3-1 victory over the Ducks and then took down the Kings (3-2) on Tuesday before the Christmas break.
On Sunday, they extended their winning streak to four games, taking down the Flyers (4-1) in Seattle.
Scoring has been a problem for this club, but Jordan Eberle led the way this week, scoring an impressive four goals in three games. Winger Eeli Tolvanen led the team in total scoring, tallying six points (two goals).
No. 27 - St. Louis Blues
Last Week Ranking - 26
The Blues continued their win-loss-win-loss pattern in Week 12 and remain near the bottom of the Western Conference. They began their week with a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Florida. This was their second straight loss on their trip to the Sunshine State, as they fell to the Panthers last Saturday.
However, after the Christmas break, the Blues defeated the Predators 3-2 to end the skid. Forward Pavel Buchnevich led the way in this contest, scoring two goals. While they hold a 5-4-1 record over their last 10, their hefty -35 GD keeps them in the bottom tier of our rankings.
No. 26 - Calgary Flames
Last Week Ranking - 27
The Flames faced the Oilers in both of their matchups this week and had mixed results. On Tuesday, they faced them in Edmonton and fell 5-1, as Leon Draisaitl would net a hat trick. However, in their rematch on Saturday in Calgary, the Flames flipped the script, taking them down 3-2.
Even though they still sit towards the bottom of the league standings, they have been one of the most impressive teams since the start of the month. Over their last 10, the Flames have posted an elite 7-3 record and have managed to distance themselves from the bottom group of our rankings.
No. 25 - Toronto Maple Leafs
Last Week Ranking -
The Leafs snapped their three-game losing streak with a statement victory over the falling Penguins on Tuesday. They continued to roll on Saturday, taking down the Senators by a commanding 7-5 score. On Sunday, they fell to the high-flying Red Wings but did manage to tally a loser point in overtime to extend their point streak.
William Nylander enjoyed a massive showing this week, scoring three goals and adding two helpers. He is the only skater on the team who has hit the 40-point plateau.
No. 24 - Utah Mammoth
Last Week Ranking - 23
The Mammoth had just one game on their slate this week. On Tuesday, they traveled to Colorado to face the Avalanche and gave them a good fight, but fell 1-0 in regulation. They held the majority of the shot total, but netminder Scott Wedgewood stopped all 32 shots he saw to keep them off the scoresheet.
Despite the loss, the Mammoth still holds an 18-17-3 record and a 6-4 record over their last 10 games. They remain in striking distance of the San Jose Sharks, who currently hold the final Wild Card in the conference.
No. 23 - Nashville Predators
Last Week Ranking - 24
The Predators were riding a two-game winning streak entering Week 12 and continued to find their footing, taking down the Wild in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory on Tuesday. In this upset, netminder Juuse Saros led the way, stopping 30 of the 32 shots he saw. However, their win streak would be snapped by the Blues on Saturday night in a disappointing 3-2 loss.
Despite the loss, the Predators have picked up victories in four of their last six games and are continuing to climb out of their early-season hole. Center Ryan O'Reilly has been one of the most productive forwards since the start of the month, netting three goals and adding 11 helpers.
No. 22 - San Jose Sharks
Last Week Ranking - 22
The Sharks began their week with a tough 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights. However, they bounced back and picked up two points on Saturday night, taking down the Canucks (6-3) in Vancouver. Overall, they hold an 18-17-3 and remain in the heart of the playoff picture.
The young superstar Macklin Celebrini continued to add to his MVP resume this week, hitting the 20-goal mark on Saturday night, and extended his points streak to seven games. Through 38 games played, the former first overall pick has tallied 57 total points, with 16 of them coming on the man-advantage.
No. 21 - Pittsburgh Penguins
Last Week Ranking - 20
The Penguins finally got back in the win column last Sunday with a shootout victory over the Canadiens, but fell back into the losing column on Tuesday, falling to the Leafs (6-3) in the afternoon. They would then not take the ice until Sunday night, when they traveled to Chicago to face the Blackhawks. In this contest, they picked up a demanding victory, defeating them 7-3.
In this victory, Justin Brazeau posted a hat trick and continued his offensive explosion in Pittsburgh. Through 23 games in the Steel City, the 27-year-old has quietly put together a breakout season, totaling 11 goals (matching a season-high) with seven helpers.
Justin Brazeau's hat trick was the first of his career and first three-goal game by a Penguin this season.

No. 20 - Boston Bruins
Last Week Ranking - 16
The Bruins took a bit of a dip last week and continued to slide as we approach Week 13 of the NHL season. This week, the Bruins continued their losing ways, dropping both of their games in regulation to the Canadiens and the surging Sabres. The Bruins have now won just one game over their last six contests.
During their slide, their offense has gone a bit quiet, scoring more than three goals in just two games and tallying just one goal in two of them. Star forward David Pastrnak has scored just two goals over his last seven games.
No. 19 - New Jersey Devils
Last Week Ranking - 17
The Devils take a bit of a dip in our rankings as they dropped each of their two games in Week 12. On Tuesday, they fell to the Islanders (2-1) in regulation in a Metropolitan Division showdown. On Saturday, they fell to another division rival, the Washington Capitals, but were able to tally a loser point in the extra frame.
Despite a 4-5-1 record over the last 10, expect this team to continue finding its footing with top forward Jack Hughes back in action. Before his one-month absence, Hughes scored 10 goals and added 10 helpers over his first 17 games. They will look to stop the skid on Tuesday when they travel to Toronto.
No. 18 - New York Rangers
Last Week Ranking - 18
The Rangers began Week 12 with one of their most impressive victories of the season. In their victory over the Capitals (7-3), the Rangers had to rally in the final frame and net five goals to seal the victory.
This goal is officially credited to #NYR Alexis Lafreniere, who tipped a high point shot from Panarin
Laf’s 8th goal of the season. Morrow had the secondary assist (3).

However, their momentum was short-lived as they fell to the Islanders on Saturday night (2-0).
The Rangers remain one of the most inconsistent teams in the league. Over their last 10, they have picked up critical victories but still have a 4-5-1 record. After a bit of a slow start (in the scoring department), forward Artemi Panarin has netted three goals over his last four contests, after scoring just six goals over his last 18 prior to this surge.
No. 17 - Los Angeles Kings
Last Week Ranking - 19
The Kings were one of the few teams this week that had a busy slate. On Monday, the team began Week 12 with a tough 3-1 loss to the Blue Jackets. They saw their slide continue on Tuesday, when they welcomed the Kraken to Los Angeles and fell 3-2.
However, they snapped their skid on Saturday and enjoyed an offensive explosion, scoring six goals in their victory over the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings remain in the bottom half of our rankings, carrying a 4-4-2 record over their last 10. While their offense has remained inconsistent, hitting the six-goal mark for the second time this month suggests it may be trending in the right direction. Given their elite goaltending and defense, if this offense can produce even average scoring totals, this could be a playoff team.
No. 16 - Ottawa Senators
Last Week Ranking - 15
The Senators carried a four-game win streak into the holiday week but took a bit of a step back in Week 12. On Tuesday, they fell to the Sabres (3-2) in overtime and ended the week with a tough 7-5 loss to the Maple Leafs in Toronto. While they only tallied one point this week, forward Tim Stützle continued to lead the way and extended his point streak to nine games.
During these nine games, the former third overall pick has found the back of the net eight times and has tacked on eight helpers. Goaltending remains a concern for this club as Linus Ullmark has posted a modest .893% SV% over his last seven outings.
No. 15 - Buffalo Sabres
Last Week Ranking - 21
If you didn't believe in the Sabres last week, it may be time to now. The Sabres once again saw their incredible run continue, pushing their win streak to eight games. On Tuesday, they took down the Senators in a critical Eastern tilt in overtime and finished their week with a 4-1 victory over the Bruins on their home ice.
Their incredible run has shot them up the standings and now puts them not only a game out of the wild card but also within reach of the third spot in the Atlantic Division. During this eight-game stretch, the Sabres have outscored their opponents 28-15.
No. 14 - Philadelphia Flyers
Last Week Ranking - 11
The Flyers concluded Week 11 with a disappointing shootout loss to the Rangers, but got back on track early this week. On Monday, they took down the Vancouver Canucks, who entered this week on a hot stretch (5-2), and then defeated the Blackhawks (3-1) in Chicago before the holiday break.
On Sunday, they concluded their week with a trip to Seattle but fell in a disappointing 4-1 loss. Despite the loss, the Flyers have just two games in regulation over their last 10 and remain in the No. 3 spot in the Metropolitan Division.
No. 13 - Florida Panthers
Last Week Ranking - 14
The Panthers enjoyed a strong showing in Week 11, winning three of their four games, and continued their strong play in Week 12. They began their week with a massive 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, which continued to push them up the standings. This was their second time taking down the Hurricanes over the past two weeks.
However, their win streak was snapped by their intrastate rival, the Tampa Bay Lightning, on Saturday night. Over their last 10, they carry a promising 7-3 record and now sit with a 20-15-2 overall record. With the injured Matthew Tkachuk (groin) now practicing with the team, they could get a major reinforcement at the start of the second half.
No. 12 - Washington Capitals
Last Week Ranking - 8
The Capitals saw their losing skid reach three games on Tuesday night, suffering a third-period collapse in a loss to the New York Rangers. However, as all good teams do, the Capitals stopped the bleeding in a big way when they took down the Devils (4-3) in a massive overtime victory on Saturday.
In this victory, center Aliaksei Protas was the heartbeat of the offense, tallying three points (one goal). Netminder Logan Thompson also stopped 35 of the 38 shots he saw en route to picking up his 15th victory of the campaign.
No. 11 - Anaheim Ducks
Last Week Ranking - 7
The Ducks saw their inconsistent play continue in Week 12 and are taking another slight drop in our rankings. This week, the Ducks dropped both of their games in regulation. On Monday, they fell to the lowly Kraken (3-1) and then ended their week with a rough 6-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
Over their last 10, the Ducks carry a 4-5-1 record. Following an impressive start to the season, young forward Leo Carlsson has seen his production decline sharply, as he has tallied only eight points (four goals) over his last 13 games.
No. 10 - Montreal Canadiens
Last Week Ranking - 13
The Canadiens began their week with a demanding 6-2 victory over their long-time rival, the Boston Bruins, on Tuesday night. In this victory, Montreal's defensemen kick-started the offense as both Noah Dobson and Lane Hutson each tacked on three helpers. However, on Sunday, the Canadiens would fall to the Lightning in a shootout loss.
The Canadiens enter Week 13 carrying a 20-12-6 record with a solid 5-2-3 over their last 10. They sit within one point of the Red Wings and Lightning for the top spot in the Atlantic.
No. 9 - Edmonton Oilers
Last Week Ranking - 9
The Oilers had only two games this week, and both were against their long-time rival, the Flames, in the Battle of Alberta. The Oilers got the better of the first meeting on Tuesday night when Leon Draisaitl led the way with a hat trick. However, in the rematch on Saturday night, the Flames got some revenge in a close 3-2 contest.
Despite the loss, the Oilers still boast an impressive 6-3-1 record over their last 10 and continue to soar in the Western Conference. Connor McDavid carries an eye-catching 12-game point streak into the new week. During this dominant stretch, McDavid has scored 13 goals and tallied 19 helpers.
No. 8 - Vegas Golden Knights
Last Week Ranking - 10
The Golden Knights picked up a much-needed 7-2 victory over the Sharks on Tuesday night. This victory snapped a three-game losing skid. However, they were unable to kick-start a winning streak, falling to the top-seeded Colorado Avalanche (6-5) in a shootout. In this thrilling game, the Golden Knights were unable to hold their lead, surrendering three goals in the third period, but managed to secure a point.
They enter Week 13 with a strong 17-8-11 record, placing them at the top of the Pacific Division. They will have another tough task awaiting them on Monday when they welcome the Wild to Sin City.
No. 7 - Tampa Bay Lightning
Last Week Ranking - 12
The Lightning entered the holiday week in a bit of a slump, but wasted little time breaking out of it in Week 12. On Monday, they took down the Blues (4-1) and stayed hot on Saturday night, getting the better of the Battle of Florida, defeating the Panthers by a score of 4-2.
On Sunday, they extended their winning streak to four games by taking down the Canadiens in a 5-4 shootout. Over his last seven games, start winger Nikita Kucherov has only been held off the scoresheet once and has scored three goals and added 10 assists during this stretch.
No. 6 - New York Islanders
Last Week Ranking - 6
The Islanders dropped their last three games entering Week 12 and were showing some signs of slowing down. However, this emerging club enjoyed a nice bounce-back showing this week and is now sitting near the top of the conference. Before the holiday, they defeated the Devils (2-1) in Belmont on Tuesday night.
On Saturday, they shut out the Rangers (2-0) thanks to a 27-save showing from No. 2 netminder Dave Rittich. Their winning streak was snapped on Sunday by their division foe, the Blue Jackets, in a 4-2 loss. Middle six winger Simon Holmström led the scoring department this week for the Islanders, earning three points (in three games) with two goals.
No. 5 - Detroit Red Wings
Last Week Ranking - 5
The Red Wings were our biggest risers this week and continued to hold their footing at the top of the Eastern Conference. They began their week with an impressive 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars in overtime. In this victory, captain Dylan Larkin bout the team on his back, tying the game late in the third and eventually scoring the overtime winner.

On Saturday, they saw their winning streak snapped by the Hurricanes in a 5-2 loss. They concluded their week on Sunday with a tilt against the Maple Leafs and took them down (3-2) in overtime. The Wings now sit alongside the Hurricanes for the highest point total in the Eastern Conference (49).
No. 4 - Carolina Hurricanes
Last Week Ranking - 4
The Hurricanes began Week 12 with another tough loss to a Florida club. On Tuesday night, the Hurricanes dropped their third-straight game in general and to a Florida team, as they fell to the Panthers by a score of 5-2. However, the Canes were able to snap their losing skid with a crucial 5-2 victory over the Red Wings on Saturday night.
Despite their struggles against the Lightning and Panthers over the last two weeks, they still boast a stellar 6-3-1 record over their last 10 and continue to hold the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. Forward Andrei Svechnikov has begun to find his footing, riding a five-game point streak (nine total points). With top winger Seth Jarvis on the shelf, Svechnikov's recent quality of play has kept this offense afloat.
No. 3 - Minnesota Wild
Last Week Ranking - 3
The Wild entered the new week riding a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche last Sunday night. They were unable to snap this skid as their losing streak reached two games, as they fell to the Predators in overtime on Tuesday night. However, following the Christmas break, the Wild picked up a much-needed two points on Saturday night, taking down the Jets (4-3) in overtime.
Despite dropping two of their last three, the Wild still carry an elite 8-1-1 record over their last 10 but remain in the No. 3 spot, given the two other powerhouses in their division.
No. 2- Dallas Stars
Last Week Ranking - 2
The Stars were unable to secure a victory in their two games, but earned overtime loser points to hold their No. 2 position on our list. On Tuesday, they fell to the Red Wings in overtime, then fell 4-3 to the Blackhawks in a shootout on Saturday night.
22-year-old center Wyatt Johnston has continued to emerge as a legit star in this league. Over his last six games, he has scored four goals and added four helpers. Through 39 games played, Johnston has scored 20 goals and tacked on 25 helpers. The former 23rd overall pick is on pace to score 42 goals this season, which would smash his 33-goal mark from last season.
No. 1 - Colorado Avalanche
Last Week Ranking - 1
Of course, the Colorado Avalanche hold the top spot on our list. This week, they continued to dominate the league, picking up another four points (out of four possible points). On Tuesday, they shut out the Mammoth (1-0) thanks to a 32-save masterclass from Scott Wedgewood. On Saturday, they rallied to take down the Golden Knights 6-5 in overtime.
They are the only team in the league over the 60-point mark and remain on track to make history. Through 37 games, the Avalanche have held a 28-2-7 record and have a legitimate chance to end the season as one of the best teams of all time.
