Is Trey Benson out for the season? When is Trey Benson coming back? The latest Trey Benson injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 10 of 2025.
Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson (knee) was placed on injured reserve in Week 4, just one game after the team's starting RB, James Conner (ankle), was placed on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. Benson hasn't played a game since, and Conner is out for the season.
In Benson's place, RBs Bam Knight, Michael Carter, and Emari Demercado have handled the backfield work for Arizona. However, Benson was ahead of all three of them on the depth chart, and was likely set to be the team's starter moving forward before the injury.
Now, we'll have to wait and see what happens with the backfield, and if he can return at any point this year. He looked to potentially be an impact player for the offense, but will he make it back onto the field in 2025?

Is Trey Benson Out for the 2025 Season?
It's very unlikely. He was placed on IR with a return designation, meaning he would be forced to miss at least four games rather than the whole season. Week 10, when the Cardinals take on the Seattle Seahawks, will mark his first chance to return this year.
However, he's not expected to make his debut this week. He wasn't spotted practicing Wednesday, and his 21-day window for a potential return hasn't been opened yet. That means he likely won't practice this week, and will miss yet another game.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon provided an update on his status -- that was essentially a non-update, so we're left with the information we had. Early reporting indicated that he would miss four to six weeks because of his injury, meaning a return in Week 11 or Week 12 seems likely at this point.
But he won't be out for the season -- it's just a matter of the exact date he'll come back.
Trey Benson 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
Benson will re-assume the lead role when he returns. But this wasn't a particularly juicy backfield situation to begin with. He originally split time with Conner, with the two in a relatively even timeshare that easily nerfed the upside of both backs.
Then, after Conner went down, he didn't get all that much volume. Instead, the backfield was... still a timeshare. Benson isn't a complete back in terms of skill set -- he has a propensity for negative plays and struggling with contact balance at times, though he is an elite athlete.
Those expecting a must-start workhorse back with an RB2 floor and RB1 upside might be disappointed. We'll likely see Demercado maintain his passing down role, and could even see Knight vulture goal-line carries, which would nerf both the touchdown-scoring and pass-catching upside of Benson.
It's probably not a great idea to make an offer for him right now unless you can get him for cheap. The Cardinals offense struggled for most of the season, and they effectively benched their starting QB, Kyler Murray, for a career backup in Jacoby Brissett. There's a strong chance this team just sucks all year, though Benson will have flex appeal when he's healthy again.
