Is Omarion Hampton out for the season? When is Omarion Hampton coming back? The latest Omarion Hampton injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 12 of 2025.
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton (ankle) hasn't played a down in the NFL since Week 5, when he picked up an ankle injury. His absence has now stretched to six games.
The Chargers are on bye this week, meaning when Week 13 comes, he'll have had seven weeks to rest up. But not having seen any of him in the meantime is concerning.
We've seen players return from high-ankle sprains within three weeks, so it's confusing that we haven't seen him since then. So is he out for the season?

Is Omarion Hampton Out for the 2025 Season?
Probably not, but we really don't know when he'll return yet. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he expected Hampton to return to practice after their Week 12 bye. It's nice that he'll have an extra week to rest up and continue healing.
And there's reason for optimism about his return coming soon, since he shed his walking boot before pre-game warmups in Week 11. That indicates that he's progressing well. The real question now seems to be whether he'll play in Week 13 or be held out until Week 14.

You can see the video of the injury above. Since he missed so much time, we can probably assume he had at least one ligament tear or fracture somewhere. Two months is on the longer end of high-ankle sprain recovery times.
Hampton has a shot at returning in Week 13, but it's unclear exactly where he is in the rehab process. It's possible that Los Angeles will opt to hold him out another week, too, since Las Vegas is one of the worst teams in the NFL.
They might think they can easily handle their divisional rival and give Hampton the extra week to rest. We'll just have to see.
Omarion Hampton 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
When Hampton returns, he has easy RB1 potential. He was drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and while he had a rough start to the season, he was thrust into a workhorse role after the season-ending injury to Chargers RB Najee Harris (Achilles).
It's likely that Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman had a committee backfield split planned for the two, but those plans were thrown out the window. There appears to be a big talent gap between Hampton and his backup, Kimani Vidal (thigh). Vidal has had a few good games, but dropped some duds as well.
Omarion Hampton is going to be a special football player. There’s a lot to be down about rn, but he’s not on that list. I’m thrilled he’s the RB of our future. 💥🏈💥#BoltUp pic.twitter.com/BsxyDbLwAp

It's very obvious when you turn on the film. Hampton is a huge, powerful running back who has ridiculous acceleration and speed for his size. He's been durable throughout his career -- despite missing a lot of time due to injury this season, no amount of training can prevent some types of injuries.
How he plays in his first game back will depend on where he's at with his recovery. Vidal will also have a bye week to rest his injury, but if he's unable to go, perhaps Hampton will get a nice workload. The Chargers just got blasted by the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-6.
Their lack of a run game in that contest hurt them greatly. The Chargers' offensive line has been decimated by injuries, and the lack of a threat in the run game, combined with their pass protection issues, made them easy pickings by the Jaguars.
The Chargers might lean more heavily into checkdowns and dumpoff passes to Hampton, which could raise his PPR ceiling, especially if they can't get a lot of penetration on run plays. So the rookie will be a must-start when he returns -- even in Week 13, where he could thrive even with a limited workload due to the Raiders' weaknesses on defense.
