Is Omarion Hampton Out for the Season? Injury Update on Coming Back for Fantasy Football (Week 10)

Omarion Hampton - Fantasy Football Rankings, Rookie RB Draft Sleepers

Is Omarion Hampton out for the season? When is Omarion Hampton coming back? The latest Omarion Hampton injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 10 of 2025.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton (ankle) was in the midst of a meteoric rise in fantasy football rankings, seemingly solidifying himself as one of the best fantasy tailbacks in all of football, before he suffered an ankle injury in Week 5.

He hasn't played in a game since then as he continues to recover. While he's been gone, running back Kimani Vidal has, at times, been a key fantasy football starter, though he's been inconsistent. Fantasy managers who invested early picks in Hampton likely have struggled this year.

Without him, the Chargers offense has still been productive, but the run game has suffered at times. When he comes back, he'll likely give them a boost -- but will it be this year?

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! This 12-team, Tight End Premium contest uses a 20-round draft format, with the overall winners determined by total points scored during Weeks 15–17. Is Omarion Hampton Out for the 2025 Season?

I don't think so. But if you drafted him, you might have to wait a bit longer for him to return. The latest news we have indicates that he'll return at some point after the team's Week 12 bye. We never got full clarification on what his ankle injury was, but it's likely to be a severe high-ankle sprain.

Most injuries of this nature keep NFL players out for around three to four weeks. Hampton's might have featured fractures or more serious tears to ligaments that needed more time to heal. By the time Week 13 rolls around, he'll have had seven weeks to heal.

While he will still have a lengthy recovery window, he flashed immense upside when on the field and could return to elite RB2 status when active. As shown in the highlight above, he bullied tacklers. It's pretty impressive. But we won't be seeing that for a while.

Keep in mind that after the Week 12 bye is when his practice window will be opened. It's not a guarantee that he'll return to the field. General consensus seems to think he'll come back for Week 13, but we could see one or even two more weeks missed after that. We'll just have to wait to find out.

Omarion Hampton 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

When Hampton returns, he'll immediately become a must-start RB with top-8 potential every week. When he was active and after RB Najee Harris (Achilles) got injured, he was the undisputed workhorse of his offense. The current starter, Vidal, didn't get much work at all.

Hampton had impressive games against the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and was in the midst of a good one against the Washington Commanders before he got hurt. In hindsight, the Giants are one of the league's worst run defenses, so that made sense, and he had just under 3.7 yards per carry against the Broncos.

However, his usage is excellent due to the injury to Harris. He can easily have 20 or more touches per game when he's back to being fully healthy, and in an explosive offense like the Chargers, that can lead to multiple touchdowns.

He's been used quite a bit as a receiver -- in his final three games, he had 18 targets, which led to 17 receptions and 122 yards. That gives him a very nice floor in PPR leagues. There will be no reason to bench him when he's healthy again, regardless of matchup, as players with his role are coveted fantasy football assets.

If you're heading to the fantasy football playoffs or are very likely to make them, and are struggling at the running back position, it might be worthwhile to trade for Hampton if you can get a good deal for him. He would immediately give your team plenty of upside on his return.
