Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/5) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 6th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 5th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • No, they won’t listen in 2021 either, Jose Abreu (13 HR).
  • Yes, Gary Sanchez, a 53.8% FB rate would lead to a .133 BABIP. However, you can’t just be flailing at the piñata like that.
  • New Team, Same Dream. Austin Nola w/ sixth bottle of bubbly. Cork went 388 feet.
  • Ramon Laureano notices Sean Manaea’s FB rate (27.7%) is too low. Helps him out a bit w/ fifth tater. You didn’t give up on him, did you? I still like his underlying stats. 8.1% SwingStrike rate is sexy.
  • Is Chris Paddack an ace? Nah, I don’t think so. SP2. 4.2 IP, 4 ER, 6 K.
  • Hahaha! Fat chance you get Ian Happ anywhere near 289 ADP in 2021. He’s got two VIP passes towards a top-10 round selection.
  • Adam Wainwright (4-0) couldn’t figure out Happ, but he befuddled everyone else.
  • Tyler O'Neill’s fourth postcard read “Give me all the at-bats."
  • **Checks box scores** “You know it was the Marlins, right?” Blake Snell w/ 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 K.
  • No, no. I’m still a fan of Brandon Lowe & not worried about .115 AVG in last 15 games.
  • If you rostered Shogo Akiyama the whole time and dropped him recently, you’re not only stuck with the losses, but you're missing out on his three SB in the last six games.18% rostered.
  • Sometimes you gotta have three times the Faith, Faith, Faith with Eugenio Suarez (12 HR, .209 AVG)
  • Lucas Giolito enjoys that KC BBQ. Burnt ends, please. 6 IP, 3 ER, 9 K.
  • Mike Trout (15), sensing there is heat on their tail, decides it’s better to split up from Fernando Tatis Jr. Trout heads towards the monstrous 300-HR mountain. Tatis bumps into Teoscar Hernandez.
  • Yes, I’d like a stamp on my “Buy 40 combo meals, get one free card.” I’m sorry, Mr. Kyle Tucker. You don’t get credit for two separate visits. (seventh HR/fifth SB)
  • Just hold on (64% rostered). The real Shohei Ohtani (sixth SB) will be here soon.
  • "YES! We were right. Jo Adell is the greatest!” Don’t forget about his 40% K & 19% SwingStrike rates when you hoist him up on the pedestal.
  • “But this is raw.” Sir, you wanted the Jose Urquidy out before he was fully ready. 3.2 IP, 2 ER, 2 K.
  • George Springer (seven HR) doubles your enjoyment.
  • It’s nice, but it’s just not sexy enough. It doesn’t scream “I must have it.” Well, it should. This is a Victor Reyes special. 4 HR/5 SB, .312 AVG. 22% rostered.
  • Riddle me this…everyone hated on Mallex Smith & his terrible AVG. However, a majority of the league has a terrible AVG, but they get a pass?
  • Crepes?! No, Miguel Sano (nine) provides a hearty 414-foot enchilada.
  • Sweetness. Someone is listening. Ok, nobody move. Leave Andres Gimenez at SS. Let him play, let him run (seven). I’ll pick him up off waivers.
  • Can you feel that? The tide has turned. Everyone is paddling toward Rhys Hoskins now. 5 HR, .414 AVG in his last seven games.
  • Admittedly, I was skeptical. Seth Lugo has proved it’s working 5 IP, 1 ER, 8 K.
  • Victor Robles steals a base & suddenly everyone is acting like it’s Ibiza. Do you know why it’s not Ibiza in 2020? I give you exhibit A (0.8 Brls/PA), exhibit B (83.5 mph avg exit velo), exhibit C (14.2% SwingStrike), exhibit D (.265 AVG w/.359 BABIP), and finally, exhibit E-Z (Covid - no groups of dancing half nekkedness w/exotic tunes & beverages)
  • Four HR in two days. This is why you drafted Acuna. Expectation: daily HR for the rest of the year.
  • Total package. Fifth SB to go w/ nine HR, 54 R+RBI for Trea Turner.
  • Jose Ramirez (9 HR/9 SB), if you’re in Schlotzky’s, just get the Original combo meal.
  • Damn, can we get 15 HR w/ sub 60% contact rate? Keston Hiura says it’s possible.
  • The campfire cracked. Then THUNDER! Teoscar Hernandez was gone, leaving the 13-HR crew behind.
  • It’s like high school on Friday night & everyone’s rolling through Sonic w/ booming stereos. J.D. Martinez - four; Bobby Dalbec - two; Rafael Devers - seven; Xander Bogaerts - nine; Jackie Bradley Jr. - five (three HR in four days); Teoscar Hernandez - 14; Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - six. Just a thick chocolate milkshake for me.
  • You thought Gerritt Cole could beat the O’s? 6 IP, 1 ER, 10 K is nice and all, but the victory goes to DJ Stewart.
  • Clint Frazier makes a fifth long-distance deposit into his piggy bank.
  • I’m liking Ryan Mountcastle more & more for 2021.
  • Hmmm, 3.10 FIP at home & 4.09 FIP on the road. Is German Marquez adapting to his environment?
  • Sam Hilliard is making great strides in his wind-generated power program w/ 4 K.
  • Young Luis Torrens, you’re supposed to catch them, not allow them to steal four bases.
  • Shin-Soo Choo walks in & orders Shin ramyun, Choco Pie, and a bottle of Soju. Well, ok. We will consider that a Combo Meal!! (Fifth HR/ Sixth SB)
  • Stop it. The Rays’ Evan Longoria isn’t coming back. Be happy w/ 5 HR, 42 R+RBI, & .294 AVG
  • Endgame
  • Whoa! Liam Hendriks w/ 1 IP, 1 ER.
  • Giovanny Gallegos (three)
  • Ryan Helsley sighting. fourth inning.
  • Brandon Kintzler (nine)
  • Alex Colome (nine)
  • Ty Buttrey (five)
  • Jose Cisnero is the guy! Cisnero is not the guy. 0.2 IP, 2 ER vs MIN.
  • 34.7% K-BB & 22.3% SwingStrike rate. Can I have more of this Edwin Diaz, please?
  • This is devastating. Josh Hader allowed his first two hits of 2020.
  • Daniel Bard (five)
  • Yohan Ramirez (two).
  • Tony Watson (one)
  • Good Sunday morning to all those that read this far. This day is yours. The crisp fall weather is at your doorstep. Welcome it with open arms. Take a warm cup of joe (or Cho if you prefer hot chocolate). Take it easy & stress-free. Tidy up your FAAB.
