Fantasy Football Drop Candidates

Read the recent news and fantasy outlooks of some of the top cut candidates:

Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets (Cut List Ranking No. 33)

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said on Friday that he expects wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) to play again this year, but Glenn also added that it's up to the doctors, according to Antwan V. Staley of the New York Daily News.

Wilson missed several games with a knee injury before returning in the Week 10 win over the Cleveland Browns, only to aggravate his knee. The Jets placed the 25-year-old on Injured Reserve this week, so he'll be forced to miss at least the next three games following the team's Thursday night loss to the New England Patriots. He won't be eligible to play before Sunday, Dec. 14, against the Jaguars.

With Wilson out for the foreseeable future, John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell figure to be featured as the team's top pass-catchers in what has been the worst passing offense in football this year. Fantasy managers stashing Wilson need to know that there's a chance he won't contribute again in 2025.

Darnell Mooney, WR, Falcons (Cut List Ranking No. 22)

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney will be hard to trust for fantasy in Week 11 after registering his fourth one-catch performance in his last five games last week. On the bright side, he drew eight targets in last week's loss, which was just as many as No. 1 wideout Drake London (illness/back).

Drops (now with four on the season) and the inaccuracy of Michael Penix Jr. could again limit Mooney in Week 11 against the Panthers, a defense that has allowed the fifth-fewest half-point PPR points to opposing wide receivers this season. If London, who was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday, were to miss the game, it could be beneficial for the 28-year-old receiver, although it was TE Kyle Pitts Sr. who benefitted from London's absence in Week 8 (nine receptions, 59 yards), not Mooney (one catch, 11 yards).

In a 30-0 loss in Week 3 to the Panthers, the sixth-year pro caught four passes on 11 targets (31 percent of his season target total) for 44 yards, but the veteran wideout sets up as a risky WR4 play this week, with a near-zero floor and limited upside.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Commanders (Cut List Rankings No. 29)

Washington Commanders rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt has lost hold of the lead-back duties with Chris Rodriguez Jr. taking over in Week 10 against the Lions. Croskey-Merrit wound up leading Washington with 11 carries for 30 yards in the game, but that was due to Rodriguez leaving the game early with a shoulder injury.

Rodriguez played 68% of the snaps to Croskey-Merritt's 16% in the first half and is off the injury report heading into Sunday. The past five games have been disappointing for the rookie seventh-rounder and ultimately led to the coaching staff going in a different direction with Rodriguez, who has done a better job of taking what is blocked.

Croskey-Merritt should still be involved on some early downs, but he's best left on the bench for Washington's Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain.

Chris Godwin, WR, Buccaneers (Cut List Ranking No. 18)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Friday that wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) will be out on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Godwin has not played since suffering a fibula injury in Week 5, but the good news is that the 29-year-old was able to make progress this week and put in three limited practices.

Godwin didn't make his season debut until Week 4 after dislocating his ankle in Week 7 of last year, and he played in just two games before getting hurt again. Although Mike Evans (collarbone) is potentially out for the regular season, the Bucs aren't going to rush Godwin back, and he might not return until early December.

Even if he makes more progress in practice next week, fantasy managers shouldn't consider it a lock that Godwin will play in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. Rookies Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson should continue to see most of the targets with Godwin sidelined.

Matthew Golden, WR, Packers (Cut List Ranking No. 9)

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder) is officially listed as questionable for Week 11 versus the New York Giants. Golden was limited every day in practice this week and should have a good chance of suiting up on Sunday.

The rookie wideout suffered the injury in Green Bay's Week 9 loss to the Panthers, and while he didn't practice on Friday and Saturday last week ahead of Monday night against the Eagles, head coach Matt LaFleur said that he was close to playing.

The 2025 first-round pick hasn't broken out yet in a crowded Green Bay wide receiver room, recording 23 receptions for 262 yards on 29 targets, and is still looking for his first career touchdown through eight games. Golden could be in line for more opportunities over the second half of the season as the Packers have struggled on offense in recent games, but it very tough to trust right now for fantasy managers and is stretch to stash on benches especially in shallower leagues.

Jordan Mason, RB, Vikings (Cut List Ranking No. 27)

Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason lacks standalone fantasy value heading into Week 11 against the Chicago Bears. Mason had been able to co-exist alongside Aaron Jones earlier in the year, and he was a must-start when Jones missed time due to injury.

However, now that Jones is healthy again, the veteran has taken over the backfield, leaving Mason in an unsteady role. Just last week, the 26-year-old only played one-quarter of the offensive snaps, rushing four times and catching one pass. He was efficient with his opportunities, but it was still impossible for him to carve out fantasy value given his small workload.

As long as Jones is healthy, Mason must be viewed as a mere handcuff and shouldn't be started in fantasy lineups this week.
