Fantasy Football Outlooks for 2025 Rookies

Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka might not have a huge breakout in Year 1, even if he plays well. He'll join a WR room with great talents in future Hall-of-Famer Mike Evans, the excellent Chris Godwin, second-year pro Jalen McMillan, and another rookie in WR Tez Johnson.

For starters, it's unclear what Egbuka's role will be. Godwin played primarily in the slot last season, and Egbuka profiles mostly as a power-slot WR. Egbuka's early-season volume will likely depend on the health of Godwin's ankle, which he broke early last season. Evans is also aging, but doesn't appear to have slowed down yet.

Johnson and McMillan are likely to be leapfrogged by the former Ohio State guy for the WR3 spot, though, meaning Egbuka could have a decent season. Still, in redraft, it's hard to be excited about him. Maybe next year, but there's just too much target competition right now.

If you're drafting Egbuka in rookie dynasty drafts, you're likely building for the future, so be ready to hold and be patient.

- John Johnson

Jayden Higgins, Houston Texans

Rookie Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins is stepping into a golden opportunity. Higgins was drafted with the No. 2 pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With wide receivers Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs dealing with injury and departing in free agency, respectively, the Texans had a massive void to fill opposite No. 1 option Nico Collins. Like Collins, Higgins is a 6-foot-4 athletic freak. He ran a 4.47 40-yard dash and provides the Texans with a combination of a deep threat and red zone target.

Higgins was relatively productive over the last couple of seasons in the NCAA. In 2024, he recorded 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns on 87 receptions. He is a volume king with serious touchdown upside. The Texans' wide receiver room is crowded, but Higgins is clearly the second-most talented among the bunch. Additionally, new acquisitions Jaylin Noel and Christian Kirk are slot players and should not compete with Higgins for playing time. As such, Higgins could be the No. 2 option for a good quarterback in C.J. Stroud in Week 1.

Having a player like Collins on the other side of the field will open lanes for Higgins at every level. This is a player who could easily finish as a WR2 this season. Considering that he is currently being drafted outside of the top 50 at the position, he would be an immense steal in fantasy drafts as he should be, at minimum, a flex option throughout the season.

- Quincy Milton III

RJ Havey, Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos selected R.J. Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was a bit of a surprise as he was seen as an underrated prospect entering the NFL Draft and was not expected to get second-round draft capital. However, Broncos head coach Sean Payton clearly saw something he liked.

Harvey now joins Reggie Bush, Mark Ingram II, and Alvin Kamara as the only backs Payton has selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft. This list certainly puts Harvey in good company. Ultimately, it doesn't guarantee anything as Harvey will need to produce with the touches he's given. Still, Denver has one of the best run-blocking offensive lines in the league and has been looking for a running back upgrade this offseason.

The team has seemingly pegged Harvey as their man. He has good burst, vision, and hardly goes down on first contact. Harvey has everything needed to be the next great fantasy running back in Payton's offense. Despite the team's addition of veteran J.K. Dobbins, gamers should feel comfortable using a mid-round pick to select Harvey in their drafts.

- Dave Ventresca

Woody Marks, RotoBaller

Houston Texans running back Woody Marks was selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, which is valuable enough draft capital to put him on the fantasy football radar as a rookie. Marks spent four seasons at Mississippi State before one season in Los Angeles with USC. He hauled in a whopping 261 receptions in 57 career games and had a career-high 83 catches in 2021. His receiving skills give reason for optimism in PPR setups, but he was more than just a scat-back at the collegiate level.

He accumulated 1,883 rushing yards overall and averaged 5.0 yards per carry, finding the end zone 22 times on the ground. While he'll have to beat out Dameon Pierce and the newly signed Nick Chubb for the RB2 role behind Joe Mixon, it has become evident the staff in Houston isn't high on the former Florida running back, and Chubb is likely to be a shell of his former self after multiple major injuries.

The 28-year-old Mixon, who missed three games last year, is highly likely to miss at least a few contests in 2025. Whether Marks carves out a receiving role that gives him standalone value, or Mixon misses time, there is a clear path to fantasy relevance in 2025. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should consider stashing Marks, and he's a solid best ball dart throw for potential spike weeks.
