Eric Cross' Top 100 Dynasty Prospect Rankings for Fantasy Baseball (August 2024)

Junior Caminero - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Eric Cross provides his updated top 100 dynasty prospect rankings for fantasy baseball (August updated). These are the top MLB prospects to target in dynasty leagues for 2024 and beyond.

While the minor league season is winding down, there is still plenty of action and movement in the prospect world. This is also going to be my last rankings update with Jackson Holliday included and probably Junior Caminero as well. Caminero will graduate in 37 more at-bats, and Holliday actually did on 8/30, a few days after I initially posted my August rankings to my Patreon.

These rankings are geared toward standard 5x5 leagues (AVG) and consider many factors, including performance to date, scouting grades, future projection, and video and data analysis. Or, as I like to call it... PPP, which stands for profile, performance, projection.

While these rankings are more slanted towards long-term fantasy value, proximity, and short-term value do play a part in where a prospect lands in my rankings. If you want to see the full Top 500, then head on over to my Patreon!

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Notes

Leo De Vries, San Diego Padres

While there's never a good time for an injury, Leo De Vries landing on the IL two weeks ago was really rough timing as he was rolling in Low-A. After a slow start to the season, De Vries was slashing .284/.407/.589 since the start of July with nine doubles, 10 home runs, seven steals, and nearly as many walks (27) as strikeouts (31).

It's hard to blame him for the sluggish start to the season either, as he is a 17-year-old who skipped both the Dominican Summer League and Complex Level.

That last sentence is also why De Vries excelling in July and August was impressive. De Vries checks off all the boxes I look for in a Top-10 prospect for fantasy and possibly even the No. 1 overall fantasy prospect by the end of 2025.

He has the skills to be a plus hitter with plus or better power and above-average speed to go along with it. It's easy to put him inside my Top-20 right now, and the ascension toward No. 1 overall should pick back up in 2025.

Kristian Campbell, Boston Red Sox

The "Big 3" in Boston's system gained another member this season with Kristian Campbell emphatically knocking down the door to this club and making it a "Big 4" now. When he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 draft, Campbell was lauded for his hit/speed blend but not many were high on the power at that time which was fair.

However, a swing adjustment unlocked additional raw power for Campbell this season and helped in his meteoric rise up prospect rankings.

In 103 games across three levels, Campbell has slashed a robust .339/.444/.581 with 31 doubles, 19 home runs, and 22 steals. Campbell has been excelling across the board offensively now that more power has been unlocked, and he's also shown a solid approach at the plate. This type of offensive profile from the second base position is incredibly intriguing for fantasy purposes.

Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants

While Campbell is rising to the top of the second base prospect rankings, Bryce Eldridge is doing the same at the first base position. Over his last 26 games, Eldridge has smacked eight doubles and 10 home runs with a .378/.471/.786 slash line while only striking out 21% of the time.

There aren't many prospects with more raw power than Eldridge, who could end up as the best power hitter San Francisco has developed in many years.

At this point, Eldridge is in the mix for the top first base prospect in the game, thanks to his mammoth raw power. But he's far from an all-or-nothing masher. Eldridge has displayed decent contact abilities and a solid approach at the plate. If he continues mashing like this, he's going to be a no-doubt Top-25 fantasy prospect by the end of the season.

Michael Arroyo, Seattle Mariners

Michael Arroyo is one of the most underrated prospects in baseball. I've said this multiple times on various outlets, and I'll continue saying it until I'm blue in the face.

Over his last 30 games, Arroyo is slashing .342/.420/.642 with 10 doubles, nine home runs, and four steals. And for the season, Arroyo is up to 24 doubles, 23 home runs, and 14 steals in 114 games between Lo-A and Hi-A with a .286/.401/.518 slash line.

The main reason why Arroyo gets undervalued is that he doesn't possess any standout tools. However, Arroyo is an above-average hitter with a solid approach and has the power/speed blend to be a 20/10 type long-term to pair with a decent AVG and OBP. All of that coming from the second base position is certainly intriguing for fantasy purposes.

Travis Sykora, Washington Nationals

One of the biggest pitching prospect risers this season has been Travis Sykora. The 2023 third-round selection has been dominant all season, but especially since mid-June. Over his last 12 starts, Sykora has posted a stellar 1.56 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 6.7% walk rate, and a 42.1% strikeout rate.

Sykora features an elite fastball in the mid to upper 90s and a slider and changeup, both of which project as above-average to plus offerings. He's also shown above-average command and control as well, which is impressive given that this is his first season in professional baseball.

We could be looking at the next #1 pitching prospect by mid-2025 once Jackson Jobe and Andrew Painter graduate.
