Two-Start Pitchers: Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Streamers and Starts for Week 2 (2025)

Pranav's two-start pitchers, fantasy baseball streamers and starts for Week 2 of 2025 (April 7 to April 13). His top waiver wire SPs with two starts coming up.

Welcome RotoBallers to the second edition of our two-start pitchers - fantasy baseball waiver wire streamers and starts for Week 2 of 2025- from April 7 to April 13. This week will turn over to the top of the rotation early for many teams, giving us an interesting variety of two-start pitchers to work with.

Each week of this fantasy baseball season, this fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups column will identify starting pitchers expected to make two starts in the upcoming week. It will look at fantasy baseball streamers ahead of the Sunday night waiver wire run for leagues with weekly transactions.

There are 33 pitchers currently scheduled to make two starts during this period. We will examine pitchers who are rostered in under 50% of Yahoo leagues. Pitchers over 50% will be listed, but not examined. Other two-start pitchers are available, but they should be avoided.

Two-Start Pitchers - Over 50% Rostered

Best Available Two-Start Pitcher Streamers

Hayden Wesneski (3% Rostered), Houston Astros

Scheduled Starts: @ SEA, vs. LAA

Acquired in the Kyle Tucker trade, Hayden Wesneski didn't wow anybody in his first start with the Houston Astros, allowing three runs, two hits, and three walks, with six strikeouts across five innings pitched against a Giants offense ranked sixth in scoring this season.

In three seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Wesneski was mostly fine as a starter, with greater effectiveness as a bullpen arm. Through 114 innings as a starting pitcher, Wesneski holds a 4.26 ERA, 4.28 xFIP, 1.18 WHIP, 21% strikeout rate, and 6.2% walk rate.

A profoundly mediocre pitcher, Wesneski isn't an auto-stream by any means against most offenses. But against two offenses that ranked in the bottom third of the league in scoring last season, he's a decent streaming pick.

Riskier Two-Start Streamer Picks

Luis Severino (46% Rostered), Athletics

Scheduled Starts: vs. SD, vs. NYM

Luis Severino's move from the Mets to the Athletics made it difficult to trust him in fantasy going into the 2025 season. He hasn't fallen off a cliff yet, but his 3.75 ERA, 5.09 FIP, 1.33 WHIP, 22.6% strikeout rate, and 13.2% walk rate don't inspire much confidence. He's not likely to be a reliable option this season, but he should offer a decent strikeout floor.

The Astros held the Mets to just five runs across three games, but the Mets (without Juan Soto) were a top-10 scoring offense in 2024. The Padres continue as a top-10 scoring offense in 2025. Drawing two starts in a hitter-friendly Sacramento ballpark takes Severino out of streaming contention this week.

Casey Mize (20% Rostered), Detroit Tigers

Scheduled Starts: vs. NYY, @ MIN

Casey Mize was among the recommended picks in the inaugural edition of two-start pitchers, but he became a casualty of rotation shuffling. Instead, Mize will enter into a much less favorable two-start week.

Mize was stellar in his first start of the season, allowing just one hit across five and 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners. The uptick in the performance of his splitter in spring training held in his first start, with a 71.4% whiff rate and a velocity increase from 86 mph to 89 mph.

While we can't slot him into Cy Young conversations, Mize looks like a significantly better pitcher this season. However, there are plenty of really good pitchers getting knocked out by a Yankees team ranked second in scoring this season. A sputtering Twins offense may help repair ratios, but it'd be best to look for Mize in another week.

Kyle Freeland (7% Rostered), Colorado Rockies

Scheduled Starts: vs. MIL, @ SD

Kyle Freeland has shown flashes of his incredible 2018 season (fourth in NL Cy Young votes) in his first two starts of 2025, with a 2.13 ERA, 1.34 FIP, 0.87 WHIP, 20.4% strikeout rate, and no walks allowed in 12 2/3 innings.

Much of this success likely comes from Freeland's new sweeper (26.8% usage rate), which has kept a .080 wOBA, .211 xwOBA, and 29.4% SwStr% in 2025. Teams are sure to adjust to Freeland's sweeper soon enough, but it remains to be seen how soon.

Common wisdom says never to think about streaming a fluky Colorado Rockies pitcher with a start at Coors Field. Common wisdom also says to never stream a pitcher with a career 5.40 ERA against two offenses that ranked in the top 10 in runs scored in 2024. Listen to common wisdom.

Connor Gillispie (1% Rostered), Miami Marlins

Scheduled Starts: @ NYM, vs. WAS

An entirely unranked pitching prospect who has pitched surprisingly decently for the Miami Marlins in these first few weeks. Through two starts against the Pirates and Mets, Connor Gillispie holds a 3.60 ERA, 3.42 FIP, 1.20 WHIP, 23.3% strikeout rate, 9.3% walk rate, and 32.3% CSW%.

He debuted in 2024 with eight innings out of the bullpen for Cleveland (2.25 ERA, 25% strikeout rate). Gillispie managed a decent start to spring training, with only one run allowed in his first 12 innings pitched. He ended the spring on a bad note, yielding six runs to the Mets over 4 1/3 innings, but snuck into the Marlins rotation after an injury to Edward Cabrera.

The 27-year-old's intriguing arsenal makes him one of this week's more interesting picks. He throws a fastball (28% usage) with an impressive 19.9" iVB and -4.1 VAA, strong enough to overcome a 91.7 mph velocity. His cutter (25% usage) has performed well in the MLB, with a .180 xWOBA and 35.9% CSW% in 2025. His slider (18% usage) holds mixed results, but his sweeper (16% usage) holds an incredible 48% CSW%.

While they destroyed him in spring training, he stymied the Mets in his most recent start (one run and four hits allowed over five innings). There is reason to believe he can do it again, but you'd give him a better shot against a Nationals offense already ranked among the seven lowest-scoring offenses in the league.

For those with great risk tolerance, Gillispie is an interesting choice in a week that is light with good options. Other fantasy baseball managers should at least watch the rookie very closely this week.
