2025 Best Ball Quarterback Rankings for Fantasy Football

For anyone who isn't very familiar with fantasy football best ball leagues, they are essentially draft-only leagues with no moves during the season. Once a best ball draft is completed, nothing else happens -- no setting weekly lineups, no trading, no waiver wire moves.

Every week of the season, the best combo of fantasy players on your team is automatically calculated and used to determine the highest possible scoring outcome. Best ball drafts always start earlier than regular drafts, and they are already in high gear!

Fantasy Football Quarterback Player Outlooks

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in four consecutive seasons. Although Hurts has never finished as the overall QB1 in his career, he has finished top-3 in two of the past three years (2022 and 2023). In 2024, Hurts finished as the QB8. It wasn't his best fantasy season, but he was still a reliable QB1 option for fantasy managers. He averaged 21.3 fantasy points per game and scored at least 20 fantasy points in eight of 15 games.

With the Tush Push not being banned this offseason, Hurts will remain a top fantasy quarterback in 2025. He has totaled double-digit rushing touchdowns in four consecutive seasons, including a 14-touchdown effort last year. The 26-year-old has rushed for 1,235 yards and 29 touchdowns across the past two seasons.

His rushing should help him finish as a top fantasy quarterback again this upcoming season. Even though Hurts only threw for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns last year, he will continue to be a safe quarterback pick early in drafts.

- Joey Pollizze

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2024 was the year of all years for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield. He set career highs in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage, and quarterback rating. Mayfield would finish 2024 as the overall QB4. It was nice to see him finally meet expectations as a former number one overall pick. As we turn the page to 2025, we must acknowledge that Mayfield played at a level we had never seen from him before in 2024.

His 41 touchdown passes tied for second in the league, and his 7.2% touchdown rate blew past his career mark of 5.0%. As much fun as it was seeing Mayfield hit his ceiling, he is a major regression candidate for 2025. Due to his monster 2024, Mayfield is one of the first quarterbacks coming off draft boards.

He has an average NFFC ADP of 48.68 overall. That feels steep for a player who is likely to regress to his career means across the board. Mayfield is certainly a better real-life quarterback than many fantasy gamers thought, but he's a fade at his current price in drafts.

J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings

Following an end-of-season meltdown, the Minnesota Vikings opted not to re-sign Sam Darnold to a new contract this offseason. As a result, the 2024 NFL Draft's 10th overall pick, J.J. McCarthy, is set to take over as Minnesota's QB1. McCarthy is a total wildcard, but the Vikings' regime is reportedly very bullish on his outlook. This makes sense as the team traded up to acquire him in the 2024 NFL Draft and was comfortable letting Darnold leave so McCarthy could start.

For fantasy football purposes, quarterbacks have fared quite well in head coach Kevin O'Connell's system. With a revamped offensive line and Justin JeffersonJordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson at his disposal, McCarthy has plenty of ammunition to deliver a strong 2025 season.

He won't cost much in drafts and has a current NFFC ADP of 152.19 overall. McCarthy is worth a gamble later in single quarterback leagues and is a fine QB2 option in superflex drafts. Don't be surprised if McCarthy turns heads in his first season as the Vikings' starter.

- Dave Ventresca

Drake Maye, New England Patriots

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is in a prime position to take a second-year leap forward. The Patriots have overhauled their offense by improving on the offensive line and bringing in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who has a history of success with young quarterbacks. Maye was a legitimate streaming option at quarterback in 2024. He threw for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 13 games. Most notably, Maye rushed for 421 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

His athleticism could unlock a serious fantasy season, especially since Maye was already a legitimate streaming option as a rookie. Additionally, the Patriots added wide receiver Stefon Diggs in free agency and drafted running back TreVeyon Henderson. The offense could still use another weapon or two, but those two additions are enough to boost Maye's stock. In 2024, Maye displayed toughness in the pocket and immense talent. With the stability the Patriots appear to be attempting to provide, Maye could thrive.

Year 2 is often the season in which quarterbacks take a massive leap forward. There is certainly no reason to believe that Maye will take a step back this season. Maye is being drafted as a mid-range QB2, but do not expect him to finish there. RotoBaller has Maye ranked at QB15, which is slightly higher than his ADP. This is a player that many could be kicking themselves for passing on during fantasy draft season.
