Cubs Extend Qualifying Offer To Dexter Fowler

The Chicago Cubs have extended the $15.8 million qualifying offer to outfielder Dexter Fowler, as announced by Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat.

Acquired from the Astros prior to the 2015 season, the Cubs hoped Fowler would have productive year and justify the qualifying offer. While he posted a career-low .250 batting average, he did hit a career-high 17 home runs with 46 runs batted in. In addition to a solid year with the bat, Fowler was consistently reliable in center field.

Fowler increased his stock in his only year with the Cubs and will certainly reject the qualifying offer upon entering free agency.
