After it was announced that Brendan Sorsby would leave the Texas Tech program, Kirk Francis is expected to start at quarterback for the Red Raiders to begin the 2026 season. Will Hammond (knee) is working his way back from a torn ACL and is expected to return in Week 3, so Francis, the Tulsa transfer, is slated to make starts against Abilene Christian and Oregon State. Francis has spent the last three seasons with Tulsa, throwing for 3,045 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. While Francis was not brought in to play meaningful snaps for Texas Tech this season, the program should be able to handle its first two opponents thanks to a wide talent gap.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
