Time flies. It feels like yesterday when I wrote my bold predictions article last year. In that article, I had some great predictions (such as Sam LaPorta's sophomore slump, the Saints going 5-8 through 14 weeks and starting Spencer Rattler, and Josh Allen's continued rushing dominance) and some truly terrible ones (like Kirk Cousins winning MVP, Cooper Kupp having a bounce-back year, and A.T. Perry becoming a fantasy-relevant player).

So overall, it was kind of like your average Jameis Winston game; some hits, some misses, but it was pretty fun! And that's why we all love fantasy football and football in general. Sure, your team won't win every game, and not all of your predictions will turn out to be correct, but where's the fun in that?

Without further ado, let's look at my boldest predictions for the 2025 NFL and fantasy football season. Once again, these will likely be wrong, but we're just here to have fun.

1. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ Coasting Will Prove To Be Costly…

As Bo Nix's Denver Broncos Will Win the AFC West

Hold your horses, Chiefs fans. Patrick Mahomes is still the most fearsome QB in the league, at least in the AFC playoffs. However, he has coasted through the last two regular seasons, much in the same way that LeBron James started coasting during the regular season after he won a couple of rings.

Of course, this is also a personnel issue. Matt Nagy is not a well-regarded offensive guru, and with Travis Kelce's age and Rashee Rice's injuries and potential suspension, Mahomes doesn't have too many explosive weapons around him.

Before DeAndre Hopkins' arrival last year, Mahomes started the season with six touchdowns and eight interceptions in six games. Despite that, the Chiefs still won all six games, mostly due to Mahomes' ability in third-down situations.

He threw 11 touchdowns and just one pick with a 110.4 passer rating on third down last season, and has never had a passer rating lower than 99.5 in any of his seasons as a starter in third-down situations.

So now that Xavier Worthy will be his only explosive option to start the season, Mahomes and the Chiefs will likely coast again in 2025. Nine of Mahomes' 15 wins last year were nail-biters, and they all had an element of luck to them. None more so than their Week 10 win over the Broncos, courtesy of a blocked field goal.

Lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice; the 2023 Vikings fell off big time and missed the playoffs following 10 one-score wins in the 2022 season. While it's extremely unlikely that the Chiefs will miss the postseason, their primary goal will be to win enough games to get there while staying healthy and fit.

That's where a young and hungry team can take advantage. Bo Nix had an excellent rookie season, as he joined Justin Herbert and Baker Mayfield as the only QBs with 3,700+ yards, 25+ touchdowns, and a passer rating higher than 90.0 in their rookie seasons.

Nix finished the 2024 regular season on a high note, as he threw 21 TDs to six INTs with a 108.0 passer rating in his last eight games of the year. With new defensive additions Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga joining 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II, Sean Payton's team will be the Chiefs' worst nightmare in 2025.

2. Jake Ferguson Will Silence His Critics...

And Will Be a League-Winning Fantasy TE

After months of speculation, Jake Ferguson inked a four-year, $52 million contract extension with the Cowboys in the offseason, and many Cowboys fans are angry that he got an extension before Micah Parsons, especially now that Parsons has requested a trade.

Even if Parsons does sign an extension with the Cowboys, Ferguson will be under lots of pressure to justify his contract following a quiet 2024 season. Ferguson's 2024 struggles could be attributed to his MCL injury in Week 1 and Dak Prescott's hamstring injury in Week 9.

In his last 17 games with Prescott (a full season's worth of games), Ferguson has put up 187.80 PPR points, the sixth-highest figure amongst all TEs during that span. His current TE15 ADP is far too low for a player who can provide top-6 fantasy TE value if his quarterback stays healthy.

3. Breece Hall Will Make the Jets Front Office Regret Not Re-Signing Him...

And He’ll Finish as a Top-3 Fantasy RB

Breece Hall didn't get as lucky as his fellow 2022 draftee Jake Ferguson this offseason, as the Jets declined to offer him a contract extension.

"We’ve got a new head coach, new GM, and I wasn't drafted by them," Hall said, via the Associated Press. "I'm not their guy. So for me, I've got to prove it every day."

Hall, who has recorded the fifth-most PPR points among all RBs over the last two seasons, currently has an RB14 ADP, lower than the likes of Chase Brown and the injury-prone Jonathan Taylor.

The Jets will likely utilize a run-heavy offense in 2025 after the addition of Justin Fields, who is not renowned for his passing. Fields also has had the highest checkdown percentage in the league over the last two seasons (15.5%), which could be huge for Hall's receiving numbers and fantasy production.

The Jets are also quietly building a great offensive line (ranked ninth by PFF ahead of this season), and are hoping that Armand Membou can be the final piece of their O-line puzzle.

Now that he's "chasing the bag," Hall will be motivated more than ever to have his first 1,000-yard rushing season. His new HC is fully behind him, too.

"You’re going to see a guy who’s going to really turn it up a notch because of what we’re going to do," HC Aaron Glenn said when asked about Hall in early August, via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.

4. Jared Goff Will Win the 2025 NFL MVP Award...

And Sam LaPorta Will Bounce Back

As mentioned in the introduction, I predicted Sam LaPorta's sophomore slump in 2024. Now, I'm doing a 180. Despite his disappointing season, LaPorta still finished as the PPR TE1 during the fantasy playoffs and is looking healthy following his minor hamstring, shoulder, and ankle injuries last year.

With a healthy LaPorta, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and the sensational Jahmyr Gibbs, Jared Goff has all the tools at his disposal to have another fantastic season. But now, he has the narrative to go along with it.

Following the departures of coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, and Frank Ragnow's retirement, many people are starting to doubt the Lions, especially due to their poor showing in the 2024 Divisional Round.

Voter fatigue is real, and voters might not tolerate another year of Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson. If Goff can have a similar season to his 2024 campaign, he can join Terry Bradshaw, John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Cam Newton as the only first overall pick QBs to have won the NFL's most prestigious individual award.

5. Rome Odunze Will Have a Breakout Season for the Ages...

And Will Finish as a Top-10 Fantasy WR

The fact that there have only been four first overall pick quarterbacks who have won the MVP Award is wild, but it's not as wild as the Chicago Bears' infamous 4,000-yard passer curse.

Rome Odunze is #DaBears WR1 now. If he remains healthy, he's gonna lead Chicago in targets, rec. yards, and rec. TDs this season.

While I don't think Caleb Williams will break that curse in 2025, I do think he's going to have a solid season (possibly an efficient 3,900 yards), and Rome Odunze will surpass DJ Moore as his top target.

Odunze was one of the most hyped rookies coming out of the 2024 draft, and although he had a solid rookie year, it fell short of NFL fans' lofty expectations. Diving deep into the numbers, we can see that Odunze has all the tools to be a superstar.

Among the 43 WRs with 90+ targets last year, Odunze ranked 16th in YAC per reception (4.8), third in average depth of target (14.2), and first in contested catch rate (72.2). He is a rare breed: a deep threat WR who can generate yards after the catch and make contested catches look easy.

New HC Ben Johnson is one of the best play-callers in the NFL today, and he can help Odunze experience a Jameson Williams-type breakout, but even better.

Odunze's WR37 ADP could be a bargain, and I predict he can even outperform Moore in 2025 and finish as a top-10 fantasy WR.
