Week 15 Fantasy Football Quarterback Outlooks

Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough has finished as a QB1 in three of his last four starts, peaking at QB6 in a Week 14 upset of the Buccaneers. While he threw for only 144 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception, his day was buoyed by 55 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns. He has now registered at least six carries in three straight games, topping 20 yards on the ground in two of three and showcasing a skillset that wasn't a huge part of his profile coming out of Louisville.

Since taking over as the Saints starter in Week 9, he has demonstrated plus athleticism and a command of the offense, entering the conversation as a viable streamer. Unfortunately, his first two fantasy playoff matchups are against the Panthers and Jets, both of whom have been challenging for fantasy quarterbacks. He does draw a favorable matchup against the Titans in Week 17, but most managers who reach the fantasy championship will have likely done so without needing to stream the position.

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (hand) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, but he informed the gathered media that he's further along than he was at this point last week, with his grip strength improving. In a gutsy Monday night win over the Eagles, he completed fewer than 50% of his passes for under 150 yards and one touchdown. He also threw an interception and fumbled twice, while taking a beating all night long.

With injuries continuing to mount on the offensive line, he faced 26 pressures and was sacked seven times, with notable contact made to his injured non-throwing hand throughout the game. The Chargers face another swarming defense in Week 15 when they travel to Kansas City. Playing behind a battered offensive line that has been overmatched for most of the season, Herbert is RotoBaller's QB20 heading into the first week of the fantasy playoffs.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice. Lawrence didn't have any kind of wrap on his ankle when addressing the media, though. It seems like a minor injury that shouldn't keep him out of the upcoming Week 15 matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on his status over the next couple of days.

Lawrence has played better lately, with multiple touchdown passes in three straight games. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday and Friday for another update on his status. Lawrence should offer low-end QB1 value for this weekend as long as his ankle won't limit his mobility inside and outside of the pocket.

Philip Rivers, Riley Leonard, Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts plan to wait until the end of the week before deciding on a starting quarterback ahead of the Week 15 matchup versus the Seattle Seahawks. Right now, newly signed Philip Rivers and rookie Riley Leonard (knee) are competing for the starting gig. It's worth noting that Rivers hasn't played in a football game since January of 2021. The 44-year-old came out of retirement to help bolster an Indy quarterback room that has been devastated by injuries.

Leonard suffered a knee sprain last week after coming in for Daniel Jones (Achilles), who suffered a season-ending injury during the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. At the moment, Brett Rypien is the other QB option on the roster. The Colts want to see a full week of practice from all their quarterbacks before making a final decision. Whoever is starting in Seattle for the Colts this weekend will be a desperation fantasy play in two-QB formats.

Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins completed just 15 of 30 pass attempts in Week 14 for 162 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions, both of which came in the second half as the Falcons tried to play catch-up in what turned out to be a 37-9 blowout loss despite being tied 6-6 at the half. The 37-year-old now owns a 3:3 TD:INT through four starts, and will be without top receiver Drake London (knee) for a third straight game, leaving Darnell MooneyKyle Pitts Sr. (knee), and Bijan Robinson as the team's top passing options.

The veteran has seen a lot of success when targeting his 6-foot-6 tight end, but it seems Pitts is inexplicably not an option in the red zone, with the 25-year-old last receiving a red zone target back in Week 9, while the likes of David Sills V and Dylan Drummond commanded a total of five red zone targets in Week 14 alone. If Cousins can focus his attention on the team's top talent, there could be an opportunity to be fantasy relevant; however, the 4x Pro Bowler is outside the QB2 range for Thursday Night Football.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is looking to break out of his slump against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night in Week 15. Mayfield hasn't been himself lately, with fewer than 200 passing yards in each of his last four games. He suffered an AC joint sprain during the loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12, which could still be impacting Mayfield's performance on the field.

The 30-year-old does have a plus matchup against the Falcons' defense this week, though. All-Pro wide receiver Mike Evans (collarbone) could be making his return to the field as well. Evans has been out since Week 7, but his return should give Mayfield a boost in fantasy value. It has been a disappointing couple of weeks for Mayfield, but fantasy managers should be able to trust him as a low-end QB1/high-end QB2. In the Week 1 win over Atlanta, the veteran signal-caller threw three touchdown passes.
