Tanner Scott 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Not The Closer, But Will See Plenty Of Save Chances
3 weeks agoWith a fresh opportunity to choose a new team in 2025 free agency, Tanner Scott has officially moved to the Dodgers. He signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Dodgers this offseason. For the Dodgers and Scott, this is a significant improvement on both sides. This is a net negative for most fantasy managers, particularly those in leagues with a saves category. Given his impressive ability, there is a chance that Scott will assume a traditional closer role in Chavez Ravine. However, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said Thursday that while anticipating Scott receiving plenty of save chances, he will not be the team's set closer. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has consistently used a carousel of arms for the ninth inning, using some of his better arms in earlier but higher-leverage situations, which often hurts fantasy value. Scott will share the bullpen with Evan Phillips, Michael Kopech, and Blake Treinen, who have prior closing experience and saw looks in the ninth inning in 2024. Look for Scott to repeat a similarly dominant ERA performance to the 1.75 ERA he posted in 2024, backed by a stellar 28.6% K%. Unfortunately, he seems unlikely to amass more than 20-25 saves unless he can secure a traditional closer role. ATC projections are on board with Scott seeing the bulk of the save chances and project him with 22 saves. His current ADP around pick 180 is fair but with closer role uncertainty. Managers considering taking him much earlier in 2025 drafts should take extra caution if saves are a scoring category.
