Fantasy Baseball Frauds? Buy/Sell On Standout Performers Including Jasson Dominguez, TJ Friedl, Tomoyuki Sugano, Stephen Kolek, more

TJ Friedl - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Joey's fantasy baseball buys and sells for MLB players currently on hot streaks. He looks at potential fantasy baseball frauds for Week 7 of the 2025 season.

Welcome, RotoBallers, to our weekly fantasy baseball frauds and buys/sells article. Every Monday, we will determine what to do with players currently on a hot streak. It could be a hitter coming off a strong week at the plate or a pitcher who has strung together some quality outings in a row.

In this article, we will dive into five of the most added players this past week. We will then determine if we should be buying or selling these players as we enter Week 7 of the fantasy baseball season. Most of the players on this list are available in a majority of fantasy leagues.

So, should fantasy managers be buying or selling these players coming off a solid week? Let's dive in and find out.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Jasson Dominguez, OF, New York Yankees

Rostered 61% of Yahoo! leagues

A lot of fantasy managers dropped New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez earlier last week amid his struggles to start the season. However, Dominguez has been re-added in a bunch of leagues after a strong week offensively. The highlight of the week for him was on Friday when he hit three home runs and drove in seven runs against the Athletics.

It was a nice sign to see Dominguez finally showcase some power at the plate after he went 11 games between home runs. Although the switch-hitting outfielder is still only slashing .250/.343/.448 with five home runs, 19 RBI, and three stolen bases in 34 games this season, there are some things to be encouraged by in the early going.

His 52.7% hard-hit rate and 11.7% walk rate both rank extremely well through the first six weeks. While some fantasy managers might have expected more from him to begin the year, we need to be patient with young players. They will go through plenty of ups and downs throughout the season as they get adjusted to major league pitching.

Given how Dominguez looked offensively last week, he should be added in every league heading into Week 7. The talent is obviously there, and a 20-25 season is not out of the question for him this year. In his last full minor league season in 2023, he hit .265 with 15 home runs, 76 RBI, and 40 stolen bases in 118 games. That makes him a clear buy right now.

TJ Friedl, OF, Cincinnati Reds

Rostered 47% of Yahoo! leagues

Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl has gotten off to a solid start this season. He is currently batting .276 with three home runs, 17 RBI, eight stolen bases, and 20 walks in his first 39 games. More importantly, Friedl is coming off a nice week at the plate. The 29-year-old batted .304 with two home runs, four RBI, and nine walks across seven games in Week 6.

Seeing Friedl put up strong all-around numbers in the early going is nothing new for the five-year veteran. Last year was sort of a wash season for the Reds outfielder, considering he spent three different stints on the injured list. However, we shouldn't forget what he did during the 2023 campaign.

He hit a solid .279 at the plate with 18 home runs, 73 runs scored, 66 RBI, and 27 stolen bases in 138 games.

As a result, Friedl should be added in all 12-plus team leagues. He has the potential to hit over 15 home runs and steal at least 30 bases in 2025, and it is a good sign that the 29-year-old currently has a 31% squared-up rate. With the lefty having one of the better eyes at the plate, he should be a fantasy-relevant option for the rest of the year.

Friedl has a 19.1% chase rate, 15.7% whiff rate, and a 10.8% walk rate to start the season. So, he is a buy in most formats right now, especially given his stolen base upside.

Tomoyuki Sugano, SP, Baltimore Orioles

Rostered 33% of Yahoo! leagues

Baltimore Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano has been one of the more surprising pitchers to begin the season. The right-hander currently owns a 2.72 ERA, 1.014 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in his first eight career starts. Those strong numbers resulted in Sugano being one of the most added pitchers in fantasy last week.

The 35-year-old rookie has been quite a surprise on the mound in recent weeks. He tossed five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts against the Yankees on April 28, six innings of two-run ball with four strikeouts against the Royals on May 3, and seven 1/3 innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts against the Angels on Friday.

Therefore, the Japanese native could be a strong streaming option over the next few weeks. However, he isn't necessarily a must-add at this point in the year. His expected ERA (4.90) is 218 points higher than his actual ERA, which means some regression could be coming for the right-hander.

Sugano also ranks in the 30th percentile or worse in strikeout rate (14.2%), whiff rate (19.6%), and expected batting average (.286).

That makes him a sell in most formats heading into Week 7. He should only be started in the right matchups moving forward.

Colt Keith, 2B, Detroit Tigers

Rostered 19% of Yahoo! leagues

Detroit Tigers second baseman Colt Keith got off to a rough start in his second major league season. Keith was hitting just .171 with two extra-base hits and 20 strikeouts in his first 27 games. Since then, though, he has heated up at the plate. He has 10 hits over his last 33 at-bats to go with four home runs, nine RBI, and just five strikeouts.

This hot stretch has jumped Keith's rostership to 19% in Yahoo! leagues. Nevertheless, he should be left on waivers in most fantasy leagues. He isn't hitting the ball hard in the early going, and that is definitely a concerning sign as we head into Week 7.

His 86.2 mph average exit velocity and 35.5% hard-hit rate both rank in the 25th percentile or worse to start the season.

As a result, he is a sell in most leagues. His hot streak won't last forever, and he wasn't necessarily a solid fantasy option in his rookie campaign. Keith only hit 13 home runs and stole seven bases in 2024. There are better players to pick up on the waiver wire right now, especially since his 20.2% strikeout rate could lead to some rough stretches throughout the year.

Stephen Kolek, SP, San Diego Padres

Rostered 14% of Yahoo! leagues

San Diego Padres pitcher Stephen Kolek appeared in 42 games out of the bullpen last year and didn't make much of an impact on the mound. However, he has yet to allow a run across 14 1/3 innings pitched in his first two career starts in 2025. With back-to-back impressive outings, it's not a surprise to see Kolek being added in leagues.

He tossed five 1/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts on May 4 against the Pirates and then delivered a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts in his most recent outing against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. But the question fantasy managers want to know is whether Kolek is for real.

While we don't know that answer just yet, he isn't someone fantasy managers should be rushing to pick up right now. He won't face the Pirates and Rockies in every start, and his metrics don't really back up his strong start. His average exit velocity (92.8 mph), chase rate (22.5%), and whiff rate (18.1%) all rank in the bottom 10% of the league.

Therefore, we could expect some rough outings for the Padres pitcher when he faces better offenses. With a matchup against a Mariners offense that ranks sixth in runs per game (5.03) upcoming in Week 7, Kolek is a sell.
