BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 0% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Raheem Mostert is probably heading to the IR due to a high-ankle sprain. This left the 49ers backfield in need of a "hasty" replacement (couldn't resist mate), in the form of JaMycal Hasty, a rookie running back out of Baylor. Hasty first saw action for San Francisco in Week Three against the Giants, taking two carries for nine yards and converting his lone target into a catch for nine yards. Despite this optimistic introduction, Hasty took part in just eight total snaps on offense from Week Three to Week Five, and not receiving a single hand-off or target in Weeks Four and Five.
Then, as Mostert was sidelined during the Week Six contest against the Rams, Hasty's activity was ramped up in a big way, and while he didn't catch the sole pass thrown his way, he did take nine carries for 37 yards rushing and saw the field for 15 offensive snaps (21%).
Hasty was a UDFA signing for the 49ers this offseason after rushing for 627 yards and seven touchdowns with 25 receptions for 184 yards receiving in his last year with the Baylor Bears. As far as his role as a pass-catching back for the Niners moving forward, that likely isn't the best bet, as Jerick McKinnon still owns that neck of the woods, particularly with Mostert out for an extended period of time.
As far as ground work goes, the forecast is much sunnier for Hasty. In San Francisco's showdown with Los Angeles, once Mostert was out, Hasty led his team in carries, taking three more than McKinnon, with the only other 49er getting involved in the running game being Deebo Samuel, who took a single hand-off for -6 yards.
With Jeff Wilson also currently hampered by a calf injury, JaMycal Hasty is a solid under-the-radar option to receive meaningful work out of the San Francisco backfield in the coming weeks.
