Bill Belichick Says Relationship with First North Carolina Team "Wasn't Great"
During an appearance on "Pardon My Take," North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick spoke candidly about his first year in Chapel Hill. "It was like they (last year's team) were recruited by somebody else; they came here for somebody else. I was new, they were leaving, you know." Belichick said. "It wasn't a bad relationship, but it wasn't a great one. There wasn't the same kind of adhesion that there is to guys that you bring in." But the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is optimistic heading into 2026, calling this year's group hard-working and smart. Needless to say, Belichick carries plenty of expectations with him after a storied pro career. After last year's 4-8 campaign, the Tar Heels have one of the toughest schedules in the ACC, including games against Miami, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia, and Louisville.
