Should I Pickup Will Shipley or Tank Bigsby? Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 10

Tank Bigsby - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Draft Sleepers, Rankings

Should I pickup Will Shipley or Tank Bigsby as fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 10 of 2025? Read our fantasy football waiver wire outlooks.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley (groin) had to exit his team's Week 8 contest early with a groin injury. It's not yet known exactly if he'll play in Week 10. The team had its bye week in Week 9.

But we've already seen, in the cases of Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle and Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai, that picking up backup running backs early when you hear that the starter is injured is good practice.

Both Dowdle and Monangai have now had huge games in the absence of their teams' starters. So stashing whoever ends up being the Eagles backup RB could pay off in a big way, and very soon. So should you stash Will Shipley or Tank Bigsby? Let's dive in.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Playoff Challenge #2 is back with a massive $100,000 grand prize and $203,250 total prize pool, paying down to 100th place. Here's the deal: no salary cap, no draft, no pickups, no subs. Choose 8 players, and as NFL teams get knocked out so will your players, so choose your team wisely. The entries will sell out quickly, and registrations will close on Saturday January 17th at 4:30 pm ET . Don't wait - get your team now and end your fantasy football season with a shot at $100,000! Will Shipley Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook

Shipley was the team's fourth-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. To this point, he's had very little NFL action. Heading into the season, it was thought that he would be the clear handcuff to Barkley, and that he should be rostered in deeper leagues in case the starter got injured.

But then the team traded for RB Tank Bigsby, who's been used a bit as a kick returner. Barkley has remained the workhorse back, but in his absence, it was Bigsby that handled the majority of the backfield workload. He carried the ball nine times for 104 yards, while Shipley saw just three carries for two yards.

While Bigsby's utility as a returner is undeniable, it seems that he was brought in because Philadelphia wanted an upgrade at their backup RB spot, and were able to get one for very cheap from a team that was willing to part with him. It doesn't seem like Shipley is worth rostering in redraft leagues.

Tank Bigsby Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook

Bigsby, meanwhile, is likely the workhorse back in case Barkley goes down. We could see Shipley handle a bit of work, perhaps some passing downs, but it will be Bigsby as the primary early-down back and first-up runner. He's a bit heavier than Shipley and appears to be the much better tackle-breaker.

We saw direct evidence of his ability to slip tackles and his power on this ridiculous conversion of a second down and 31, where he gained 34 yards. The difference in workload and efficiency is enough to make it pretty obvious that the Eagles have a preference.

If Barkley isn't able to suit up, I expect the former Jaguar RB to have around 15-20 touches, if not more, while Shipley occasionally comes in to spell him. There appears to be a big difference in talent, and the Eagles remain an excellent offense.

For all of Barkley's skills, breaking tackles is not one of his best. In fact, he ranks near the bottom of the NFL in missed tackles per rush attempt. However, on a 15-carry sample size, Bigsby has forced a missed tackle on average nearly one of every two of his carries.

That's a small sample size, of course, but that statistic would comfortably lead the NFL, meaning there is major upside to be had in cause Barkley can't play moving forward.

Should I Pickup Will Shipley or Tank Bigsby For Fantasy Football?

The clear choice here is Bigsby. He has much higher upside, appears to easily be the better back on film, is more elusive and powerful, and has put up impressive numbers in just a small sample size of carries for Philadelphia. It appears that he comfortably took over the RB2 job from Shipley.

Bigsby has a history of huge games in fantasy football, though he was just as often held back by a poor team around him. Last year, he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and had what appeared to be a mid-season breakout, scoring 25.9 and 23.8 PPR fantasy points in Week 5 and Week 7.

I know Barkley is an excellent RB, but Bigsby brings an element of power that he simply doesn't have. Saquon's game is based largely on elite speed and acceleration, while Bigsby's strength and contact balance, and ability to deliver powerful blows to defenders while remaining upright, make him a valuable asset for a backfield.

If Barkley misses time, Bigsby moves into must-start territory in redraft leagues.
