Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups - Tez Johnson, Chris Godwin, Xavier Legette Fantasy Football Outlooks

Tez Johnson - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Rankings, Deeper League Sleepers

Week 9 fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Tez Johnson, Chris Godwin, Xavier Legette in 2025. Read their waiver wire outlooks for fantasy football.

The NFC South has a trio of wide receivers, Tez Johnson and Chris Godwin (fibula) of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Xavier Legette of the Carolina Panthers -- that are interesting considerations for waiver wire pickups in Week 9.

While Godwin missed Week 8 with a leg injury, both Johnson and Legette played, to varying degrees of success. It seems pretty obvious at this point that none of these guys are their teams' WR1s, but if they were, they'd probably be rostered.

In the case of Godwin and Johnson, Bucs WR Mike Evans (collarbone, concussion) won't be playing again anytime soon, so they have additional value. And Legette had a nice game in Week 7, so should you add Godwin, Johnson, and Legette in fantasy football leagues?

Tez Johnson Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 68% of Leagues

Baller Move: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

Johnson has made the most of increased opportunities in the last three weeks. He's served as the Bucs WR2 in the absence of Godwin and Evans, with rookie Emeka Egbuka playing the WR1 role. Johnson has scored 11.5, 15.8, and 9.3 PPR fantasy points from Week 6 to Week 8.

He's flashed enough speed to get open downfield and enough shiftiness to be an excellent WR after the catch. He's more talented than his seventh-round draft capital would suggest -- he largely fell because of his diminutive size. He might play at around 150 pounds, which is wild.

The return of Godwin might cut into his receiving work a bit, though. He's thought to be likely to return in Week 10, in which case he'll likely be a significant barrier to Johnson getting heavy receiving volume. That doesn't mean all is lost, of course.

We don't really know Godwin's true health status right now, so Johnson is worth a pickup and stash at the least.

Chris Godwin Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 64% of Leagues

Baller Move: Add in 12+ team leagues

Godwin should be rostered in all leagues, really, except in competitive leagues with 10 or fewer teams. The potential for a late-season breakout is strong, though he's had bad luck with injuries. His ankle has had more time to heal with him being out with the fibula injury.

The information about Godwin we have is a bit murky -- we really don't know the extent of his leg aliment. Good thing is he hasn't been placed on IR, and the bye week will help. A Week 11 return, at the latest, seems reasonable.

Godwin had an electric run last season before he suffered a dislocated ankle and had to have season-ending surgery. Lost in the Egbuka hype was Godwin's potential to get a big role upon his return, once he gets fully healthy, of course.

He's a great played to stash, especially if you have an IR spot open for him on your rosters, as he's eligible to remain there through the bye week.

Xavier Legette Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 27% of Leagues

Baller Move: Don't Add

Legette had all 60 of quarterback Andy Dalton's passing yards in the team's win over the New York Jets in Week 7. It was thought that he would continue to be heavily targeted in Week 8, against the Buffalo Bills, but that didn't happen.

Instead, the Panthers were embarrassed, at one point going down by a score of 40-3. Carolina's offense should look better from here on out if head coach Dave Canales gives running back Rico Dowdle a big workload, though, as the offense has never looked competent while he's been sidelined.

Still, Legette was an extremely underdeveloped prospect coming out of college. He had an elite athletic profile, but lacked a lot of WR skills that he needed to succeed at the next level. It doesn't seem like he's developed in these areas, unfortunately.

He's not worth picking up right now.
