Updated Standard (STD) running back (RB) rankings for fantasy football. Tiered RB rankings for 2026, including Derrick Henry, Cam Skattebo, Rico Dowdle, MarShawn Lloyd, and Jacory Croskey-Merritt.
Running backs in standard scoring are far more valuable than wide receivers in this format because it doesn't award points for receptions. Traditional early-down running backs who find the end zone have a clear edge over pass-catching backs. Derrick Henry has more value than De'Von Achane or Chase Brown in this format. At RotoBaller HQ, we provide rankings for all different formats and are back with our updated Standard (Non-PPR) fantasy football running back rankings for 2026.
Our 2026 fantasy football rankings are put together by Nick Mariano, a top-accuracy industry ranker and the lead forecaster here at RotoBaller. Find out where key RBs such as Derrick Henry, David Montgomery, Cam Skattebo, Bucky Irving, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, J.K. Dobbins, and Isiah Pacheco are listed in our standard running back rankings.

Fantasy Football Running Back Player News
Rico Dowdle, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rico Dowdle turned five carries into 18 rushing yards and caught his lone target for two yards in a 17-0 preseason loss to the New York Jets. While teammate Jaylen Warren took the field first with the starters, Dowdle ultimately played 10 snaps to Warren's nine and finished with one additional touch. The seventh-year pro handled the entirety of Pittsburgh's second drive before splitting work with Warren on the third possession.
Dowdle is unlikely to command a workhorse role as long as Warren stays healthy, but he should still see plenty of opportunities both on the ground and through the air as a reliable pass-catching option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He profiles as a fantasy RB3 with upside if the Steelers' offense takes a step forward under new head coach Mike McCarthy.
MarShawn Lloyd, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd played nine snaps for the Packers in the team's first three drives of their 33-13 win over the Denver Broncos in both teams' second preseason tilt. Lloyd capped off the team's first drive with a receiving touchdown on an angle route over the middle with plenty of daylight to trot in for the 11-yard score. After the third drive, Chris Brooks was the primary running back for the Packers, and Lloyd's day was done.
Lloyd's night ended with six carries for 17 yards to go with his 11-yard touchdown score on his only target. With Josh Jacobs (groin) returning to practice this week but not playing in this preseason game, the pecking order seems firmly established with Lloyd being Jacobs' primary backup. Lloyd seems like a near-lock to be the primary backup and contingency plan if Jacobs cannot play. Consider Lloyd a solid handcuff at the end of fantasy drafts and a worthwhile stash in case he works into more carries this season for Green Bay.
Najee Harris, New York Giants
New York Giants running back Najee Harris is getting a real chance to work his way into an already crowded backfield. Jordan Raanan reports that Harris was brought in with the expectation that he'll be a significant contributor, and the veteran got three carries during Thursday's joint practice with Miami after only three days with the team. Harris is still getting back up to speed after tearing his Achilles last season with the Chargers, but his track record is easy to understand. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons with Pittsburgh.
Cam Skattebo remains the top option and has been first up most days in camp, while Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary are still firmly in the mix. So there isn't a clean fantasy role here yet. Harris wasn't signed to sit at the bottom of the depth chart, though. If he keeps showing he can handle live work, he could force his way into a meaningful share of the carries as the season moves along.
Kenneth Walker III, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III has been everywhere in training camp. The Athletic reports that Walker is getting the ball "all the time," with the Chiefs leaning on him in the screen game and using him as the primary back in the red zone. That's a pretty sharp change from Seattle, where Zach Charbonnet took a big chunk of the work. Walker ran for 1,027 yards on 221 carries last season but scored only five times.
Charbonnet, meanwhile, had 12 rushing touchdowns on 184 carries. Walker also caught 31 passes for 282 yards, and Kansas City has been testing that part of his game much more this summer. Andy Reid has rotated backs by series plenty over the years, but The Athletic says that doesn't appear to be the plan here. If the camp usage holds, Walker is headed for more catches, more goal-line chances and a heavier overall workload. That's a big fantasy boost for a back who already showed during Seattle's Super Bowl run that he can carry the load.
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley "consistently found running room within (new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's) wide zone concepts" during the team's joint practice session with the New England Patriots, per Zach Berman of The Athletic. After collecting 2,283 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns across 16 games in his first season with Philadelphia in 2024, Barkley's numbers regressed across the board in 2025.
While still highly productive overall, Barkley's yards per carry dropped from 5.8 to 4.1, and his yards per touch fell from 6.0 to 4.5. The Eagles have a new play-caller for the upcoming year in Sean Mannion. Based on the early returns in camp, it appears as though the new system could be a boon for Barkley's production as he enters his age-29 season. RotoBaller currently ranks Barkley as the RB7 for redraft leagues ahead of 2026
