RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the WGC - FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Here are some under the radar plays and picks for this week's event.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the addition of a weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Gianni Magliocco will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

The last major has come and gone, and for Joe and myself, the brutal weather cost us both dearly during the final round. Both Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson got blown away on Sunday, and we had to both settle for T20 finishes after our choices looked set for so much more all week. For Spencer, his selection of Eddie Pepperell decided to hit the eject button on Saturday instead, and in the end, could only manage a 71st place finish.

With just five events left, it's time to see who can cash a big prize at the final WGC event of the year.

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and Fanduel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course.

And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week.

2019 WGC - FedEx St. Jude Invitational

TPC Southwind

7,244 Yards - Par 70 - Greens Bermuda

Long par-4's make ball striking vital this week in Memphis. Seven of the par-4's measure over 450 yards at TPC Southwind, and with a plethora of bunkers and water hazards waiting to gobble up both errant tee shots and approaches, look for only the strongest players tee-to-green to be competing down the stretch here on Sunday. Players will get some leeway on the par-5's where there is excellent potential to score, so researching par-5 scoring will also be a pivotal aspect to focus on this week.

One and Done Selections

Joe Nicely - Matt Kuchar

Alternate -  Matthew Wolff

I’m now certain that Gianni and I are gonna be fighting for the win in our little contest until the very last week of the season! We both had brutal Sundays at the Open last week, with my choice Henrik Stenson and Gianni’s pick Justin Rose both fading into T20s in the final round.Things are still extremely tight.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that we are getting to the end of the season. As a result, player availability is limited. Most of the ‘elite’ options are off the board for me, though I do still have some options. Both Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood (I was sooo close to pulling the trigger on Fleetwood last week, ARRRGHHH) are still in my arsenal.

I worry about an Open hangover with Tommy, but I gave Rose very serious consideration this week, as he’s probably the ‘best’ player available to me. In the end, I decided to go with a player that I’m frustrated I didn’t use earlier in the year.

Matt Kuchar has played extremely well this season. He’s got two wins, six top-10s, and just one missed cut over his 2018-19 campaign. I’m still kicking myself for not rolling Kuch out at the Heritage, but it is nice to have such a solid option available to me this late in the season. He’s apretty vanilla play in this no-cut event where ‘upside’ is king, but he’s about as solid as they come tee-to-green and I think that will be of the utmost importance on what will be a sneaky-tough TPC Southwind layout.- Joe Nicely

Yearly Earnings - $9,463,660

Yearly Cuts Made - 24/27

Spencer Aguiar - Marc Leishman

Alternate - Henrik Stenson

Out of time, out of players and out of luck, my options are extremely limited this week. I've decided to save Bryson DeChambeau for one of the last few events of the season in hopes of selecting him as a contrarian option, and I am planning on using Paul Casey at the Tour Championship since he is my highest-ranked player left in the standings. Unfortunately, that leaves me with limited options at my disposal this week.

Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson are two other options for me to consider, but I've decided to roll with Marc Leishman, who goes into Memphis under the radar. The Aussie missed the cut during last week's Open Championship, but I believe his overseas result should be ignored.

While it is never a positive to implode in the fashion that Leishman did at Royal Portrush, there are a few reasons to remain optimistic when it comes to the 26th-ranked player in the world. Before last weekend, Leishman had made 23 of his past 25 cuts - including three straight top-35 results. His prowess on Bermuda greens has been well-recorded, and he enters the week ranked fourth in strokes gained on the surface in his previous 50 rounds. If nothing else, I know the 35-year-old will be completely ignored in OAD contests, and that is good enough for me to take a flier in a no-cut event like the WGC - FedEx St. Jude Invitational. - Spencer Aguiar

Yearly Earnings - $5,539,449

Yearly Cuts Made - 25/27

Gianni Magliocco - Patrick Reed

Alternate - Keegan Bradley

I have to reconcile with myself that coming down the stretch, Joe has the better players left at his disposal. However, Patrick Reed is my play at the final WGC of the season, and the Texan has shown plenty of signs lately that his game is in the shape it needs to be for this week's test.

As well as a top-10 finish last week at Royal Portrush, Reed has top-25 finishes in his previous two starts, and his ball striking has been excellent. Over his last 12 rounds, Reed ranks fifth in strokes gained approaching the green, 11th in strokes gained tee to green, and eighth in strokes gained total in this week's field. On that basis, I'm quietly confident that the 28-year-old can put up a solid showing in Memphis this week. - Gianni Magliocco
