Dominick's Week 5 college football quarterback rankings for 2025. His top national QBs for Week 5, including Garrett Nussmeier, Dante Moore, and more.
There is a new No. 1 in the college football quarterback rankings, and it is a player who comes from all the way out of the top 10 to take the spot.
With Oregon going to Penn State, Alabama going to Georgia, and Ole Miss hosting LSU, this could be the best week of games in five years. It is also a week when more movement could be coming.
So, let’s see how the quarterback rankings stack up to begin the slate of games in Week 5.

Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks for Week 5
Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
Mendoza could have easily been on this list in weeks past. Indiana could have just as easily scheduled teams that show his true ability, instead of the Colorado School of Mines. Go Burrows!!
After finally making it into real opponents, Mendoza not only took control over No. 9 Illinois, but he also catapulted himself into the Heisman Trophy lead.
In the 63-10 dismantling of Illinois, Mendoza completed 21-of-23 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns. These stats brought his season totals to 76-of-99, 975 yards with 14 touchdowns and zero picks. Not bad for a kid who transferred from Cal, the same school that produced Aaron Rodgers and Jared Goff. I think Cal might know something about good quarterback play.
Dante Moore, Oregon
Moore did not lose his hold at No. 1 due to his play. He is still playing great, and a great game against an elite Penn State defense this week could let him regain the coveted No. 1 spot in these rankings.
It will be a challenging task as Penn State brings in one of the best front-seven defenders in the country. Not to mention an elite and talented group of secondary players. This will be the first test for Oregon and Penn State. Let’s get set to watch a great game and see how Moore manages the whiteout.
Josh Hoover, TCU
Hoover has been all up and down these ranks, from No. 3 to No. 7. He deserves his spot here at No. 3 as he helped with his arms and his legs in a TCU victory over Iron Skillet rival SMU.
While 22-of-40 passing is not something to celebrate, 379 passing yards and five touchdowns on those 22 completions are. He also had eight carries for 27 yards as the Horned Frogs defeated the Mustangs, 35-24. As the Big 12 play heats up, it will be fun to see how much better Hoover can get.
Carson Beck, Miami (FL)
First Cam Ward and now Beck.
Beck will not go No. 1 in the NFL Draft. He does not have the elite arm strength, and he floats the ball a bit. But Miami HC Mario Cristobal doesn’t care about that. He cares about Beck being an elite college quarterback, which he is showing an ability to be.
Florida may not be a good team this year, but the Gators have talent, especially on defense. Beck was still able to manage the game, going 17-of-30 for 160 yards. While this may not seem like a lot, the Hurricanes have a glut of playmakers, and he is the perfect quarterback for this time and this season.

Sawyer Robertson, Baylor
Even though Baylor is just 2-2 on the season, it is not due to the play of QB Sawyer Robertson. In fact, if Robertson had not had 1,320 yards with 13 touchdowns, HC Dave Aranda might already be without a job instead of merely being on the hot seat.
In the latest Baylor game against the Arizona State Sun Devils, Robertson completed 25-of-39 passes for 250 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. With Robertson, Baylor can be a good team. This is despite Aranda and his defense not doing their job. Without the QB, things would be even bleaker in Waco.
Haynes King, Georgia Tech
After having a remarkable time in beating Clemson, King and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets avoided the letdown to take care of the Temple Owls by 21 points in Week 4.
Like some others, King only does what is asked of him. So, his numbers do not truly reflect his on-field impact. This is shown by having just 515 yards with two touchdowns and one interception on the season.
He is a game general, a player who is like the other 99% of athletes who will go professional in something else. But he is here now and will be a legend around the Georgia Tech campus for many years. Each week, the elder statesman of the team puts his body on the line. This is shown by his 52 carries for 274 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. His teammates love him, and so do we.

Beau Pribula, Missouri
With 982 passing yards so far, Pribula, a runner only, has more passing yards than the No. 1 on our list, Fernando Mendoza. This has led to a perfect 4-0 record for the Missouri Tigers.
Unlike other schools, Missouri has already played two good opponents; first Kansas, and this past week against South Carolina. While Gamecocks QB LaNorris Sellers was a bit hobbled, he played, and the South Carolina defense with DE Dylan Stewart is still a good unit.
Pribula, while finishing with only 160 yards passing on 16-of-27 attempts, also added 72 yards on nine carries to show he is still capable of beating you with the run when needed. Missouri, an afterthought much of the offseason, is now a real contender for a playoff berth. We will find out together if Pribula and the Tigers can continue to be magical.
Tommy Castellanos, Florida State
Another week, another overmatched opponent. Florida State will finally leave its home field this week to play a Friday night tilt against Virginia, a land of horrors for many previous FSU teams.
This will be a high-scoring affair, and Castellanos will play a big part in the scoring. Lucky for him, the UVA secondary is too busy learning in school to learn about defense.
Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Another week, another easy opponent.
Nussmeier did nothing to move up on this list. He also did nothing to lose ground. Boring for sure. But this will change in the coming weeks, such as this week, when the Tigers head to The Grove to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in what should be a great game. If you believe Lane Kiffin, “take the over.”
Bryce Underwood, Michigan
Under HC Sherrone Moore, Underwood showed some good and some bad. After Moore was sidelined for a two-game suspension, Biff Poggi came in as head coach and said yolo. Poggi and Underwood took the country by storm and showed why Larry Ellison and his wife spent $20 million getting him to Michigan.
With Underwood becoming more comfortable in this offense, it will be prudent for Moore not to revert to boxing him in and not allowing him to thrive with his natural talent and ability. By the end of the season, he could be the next great quarterback, and Ohio State will need to watch out once again on Thanksgiving weekend in Ann Arbor.

BONUS: John Mateer, Oklahoma
Mateer has been wonderful for the Sooners this season. Keeping him on the list is an option for sure. But, due to his hand injury forcing a Wednesday surgery, Mateer will now miss the next month of games for Oklahoma. This could be a death nail to the Sooners, who started the season strong.
Oklahoma will be forced to go into the Red River Rivalry without its talented quarterback. What was looking to be a close game just took a major hit. Good luck to Mateer getting back healthy, and we can’t wait to see him in 2026. Should he return to school?
