Week 9 fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Jerome Ford, Dylan Sampson, Isaiah Davis in 2025. Read their waiver wire outlooks for fantasy football.
Changes in the starting running back job for NFL backfields are absolutely massive in fantasy football. Getting a team's RB1 for free off waivers is a huge deal and can often save struggling fantasy teams.
The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets have backfields that feel a bit volatile right now -- Browns RB1 Quinshon Judkins (shoulder) is dealing with a shoulder issue, and Jets RB1 Breece Hall has been subject to trade rumors and had a knee issue going into his Week 8 game.
Thus, Browns RBs Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson and Jets RB Isaiah Davis look a bit more enticing as waiver pickups. But should you grab any of them in your leagues ahead of Week 9?

Jerome Ford Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered: 14% of Leagues
Baller Move: Don't Add
For starters, the Browns have a bye week in Week 9. It's been reported that Judkins' injury is just "day-to-day", which makes it seem like there's not much of a chance he misses Week 10. In that case, it probably wouldn't be worth stashing Cleveland's backup RB.
But Ford isn't even the backup at this point. He's playing third fiddle to Sampson -- in Week 8, the game in which Judkins got hurt, Ford didn't log a single rush. He was targeted twice, caught one of those passes, but lost one yard.

He could have had a bit more work, but Cleveland's offense is incredibly ugly right now. There is really no reason to waste your time with Ford, in my opinion, unless both Sampson and Judkins miss time. Sampson was likely drafted to be the team's RB2 and supplant Ford's role had they only drafted Judkins.

Sampson is a lot more interesting. He doesn't have much value when Judkins is healthy, but a speculative pickup of Sampson is dependent on the RB1 missing time for him to have any starting value, anyway. Sampson was the clear lead back in Judkins' absence in Week 1.
He carried the ball three times, but failed to gain yardage against the Patriots' stout run defense. He was targeted six times, though, and caught five passes for 29 yards. As a deep league RB option, he has PPR value based on the volume of targets he gets when he's the feature back.

Sampson hasn't been very good running between the tackles against NFL competition, but he's played well as a pass-catcher and has shown elusiveness after the catch. His impressive game in Week 1 was against one of the NFL's worst defenses, but he has shown talent.
You can stash him in deep leagues and start him if Judkins misses time in Week 10, hoping for plenty of receiving work. But he doesn't have much value aside from that.

There were trade rumors swirling about Hall last week, but I'm not sure those have much merit. The Jets don't have a lot of talent on offense right now, and getting rid of one of their key players on his rookie contract would probably be a bad idea.
Hall popped up on the team's injury report with a knee issue before Week 8, though. He was eventually cleared to play and finished the game without further issues, but this is at least something to monitor. He struggled with issues with his surgically repaired knee last season.
Successful two-point conversion for the Jets after review and it’s now a 38-32 game in Cincy

Davis isn't nearly the talent Hall is, but considering that Jets RB2 Braelon Allen (knee) is on injured reserve and unlikely to return for at least a few more weeks, Davis would have a very big role in the offense if Hall were to miss time. He'd immediately be start-worthy as an RB2 based on rushing and receiving volume.
He's a good enough blocker to stay on the field on third downs, has decent pass-catching ability, and is a serviceable rusher. He should be rostered in 12-team PPR leagues ahead of Week 9. There's a ton of contingent upside.
