Hooker couldn't seem to get going as Tsarukyan was mixing up his wrestling with his striking, keeping Hooker guessing. After getting taken down and punished with ground and pound, Tsarukyan sank in an arm triangle choke that forced Hooker to tap out. In 3:34 of action, Hooker landed 10 significant strikes. Arman Tsarukyan extended his win streak by defeating fan-favorite Dan Hooker via second-round submission in the UFC Qatar main event on Saturday. Tsarukyan dominated from the outset, controlling the grappling exchanges and cutting Hooker's face up with elbows and punches before submitting him with an arm triangle choke. In 8:34 of action, Tsarukyan landed 42 significant strikes and two takedowns, and had control time of 6:02. By beating Hooker, Tsarukyan has now earned his spot as the next title challenger. Former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Ian Machado Garry in the co-main event of UFC Qatar on Saturday. Although Muhammad was trying to pressure the Irishman, he couldn't take him down, and he didn't have an answer for Machado Garry's striking. In 15 minutes of action, Muhammad landed 56 significant strikes. Never before has Muhammad lost consecutive fights in his professional career. Ian Machado Garry won his second consecutive fight by beating former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad via unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC Qatar on Saturday. It wasn't the most exciting fight, but Machado Garry's performance might have been the best of his career, as he outstruck Muhammad on the feet and successfully defended against all of Muhammad's takedown attempts. Alonzo Menifield suffered a first-round knockout loss to former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir on the main card of UFC Qatar on Saturday. There wasn't much Menifield could do as Oezdemir immediately started pressuring Menifield, and it didn't take long for Oezdemir to knock Menifield out. After hurting Menifield with a left knee, Oezdemir followed up with punches, and Menifield was out on his feet before Oezdemir crumbled him to the canvas. Jack Hermansson suffered a first-round knockout loss to Myktybek Orolbai on the main card of UFC Qatar on Saturday. Hermansson made his welterweight debut, but unfortunately for him, it didn't go his way. From the beginning of the fight, Orolbai started pressuring Hermansson, and after Hermansson backed up to the fence, Orolbai caught him with a right hand, knocking him out. Shamil Gaziev suffered a first-round knockout loss to Waldo Cortes-Acosta on the main card of UFC Qatar on Saturday. Gaziev was originally scheduled to face off against Serghei Spivac, but Spivac was forced to pull out of the fight, so Cortes-Acosta stepped in on short notice. From the opening bell, Gaziev started pressuring Cortes-Acosta, but that proved to be his downfall as Cortes-Acosta landed a thunderous right hand that knocked out Gaziev. Tagir Ulanbekov suffered a third-round submission loss to former title challenger Kyoji Horiguchi on the UFC Qatar main card opener on Saturday. Ulanbekov didn't do much in this fight, and after showing signs of fatigue in the second round, it was only a matter of time before Horiguchi finished him. After getting dropped in the third round, Ulanbekov found himself in the world of trouble as Horiguchi sank in the rear-naked choke. Ulanbekov didn't find a way to escape, so Horiguchi put him to sleep. In 12:18 of action, Ulanbekov landed a takedown and only six significant strikes. From the opening bell, Horiguchi was aggressive, and it didn't take him long to take over the fight. Despite being taken down early in the fight, Horiguchi managed to knock Ulanbekov down with a thunderous head kick and soon after, Horiguchi sank in the rear-naked choke, putting Ulanbekov to sleep. In 12:18 of action, Horiguchi landed 49 significant strikes. With this win, Horiguchi asserted himself as a contender. After losing to Arnold Allen back in 2022, Hooker decided to go back to the lightweight division. Since he moved up a weight class, Hooker has looked great, going 3-0.
