Best Choices

Michael Wacha, Kansas City Royals

Yahoo: 51%; ESPN: 18%

Wacha has been incredibly reliable this year. Through 101 innings, he's posted a 3.65 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 86:39 K/BB. Not only are his talents enough to justify adding him in Week 19; but he's also got two favorable matchups. The White Sox have far-and-away the worst OPS against right-handed pitchers this year (.611). The Tigers aren't much better. Their .690 OPS against righties is the 19th-lowest in MLB. Overall, Wacha is one of next week's safest options.

Simeon Woods Richardson, Minnesota Twins

Yahoo: 18%; ESPN: 8%

Woods Richardson is having an outstanding rookie year, posting a 3.27 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 76:25 K/BB through 88 innings. While he gets to face the White Sox over the weekend, he'll first have to race the red-hot Mets, who have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last month (then again, he threw six shutout innings against the Phillies in his most recent start). Overall, the advantages that come with facing the White Sox should outweigh the risks of facing the Mets. With that in mind, Woods Richardson is a good option.

Next-Best Choice

Yariel Rodriguez, Toronto Blue Jays

Yahoo: 17%; ESPN: 4%

Rodriguez has been great in July, posting a 2.01 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 25:8 K/BB through 22 1/3 innings. Riding the hot hand definitely wouldn't be a bad move, but he is facing two of the best teams in the American League: the Yankees and the Orioles. It's worth noting that, while they're atop the AL East and fighting for the division title, both teams have struggled lately. If they don't turn it around in the next few days, Rodriguez could still catch them in a slump and take advantage. It's a risk, but a decent amount of reward could come with it.

Deeper Choice

Alec Marsh, Kansas City Royals

Yahoo: 13%; ESPN: 7%

If Wacha isn't available in your league, there's a solid chance that Marsh is. While his overall numbers aren't nearly as great (96 2/3 IP, 4.75 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 90:31 K/BB), he's facing the same two teams as Wacha. It's hard not to like a pitcher's chances in situations like this. Marsh is a bit more risky than Wacha, but still a solid option, especially in deeper leagues.
