NCAA College Football (CFB) Rankings
1. Alabama, (2-0)
The Tide still have a two-headed monster at QB, but Tua Tagovailoa's head seems to be the bigger one. Or something like that. Anyway, the "Hurling Hawaiian" torched Arkansas State for 228 passing yards and 4 TDs, while Jalen Hurts chucked for 2 TDs in relative spot duty.
2. Georgia, (2-0)
SEC road wins are always impressive--even when they happen at South Carolina (we kid because we love, Gamecocks fans). With 9 carries for 76 yards and 1 TD on Saturday, Elijah Holyfield has a, ahem, fighter's chance of seizing the primary RB job.
3. Clemson, (2-0)
Dabo Swinney played both of his signal-callers--Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence--at College Station, and left with a victory over Texas A&M. Just. Bryant got more snaps, and better numbers, but receiver Tee Higgins (3 catches, 123 yards, 1 TD) was the big producer for the Tigers on the night.
4. Oklahoma, (2-0)
UCLA may be rebuilding under Chip Kelly, but a convincing win over a Pac-12 team is still, well, convincing. Kyler Murray chucked for 306 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 69 more (with 2 TDs). However, he also threw a pick, reminding us all that he's a first-year starter. Watch out for receiver CeeDee Lamb (7 catches, 146 yards, 1 TD).
5. Wisconsin, (2-0)
Early on, the Badgers looked to be in for a long day against New Mexico. But then reality, and RB Jonathan Taylor, settled in. Taylor (above), with 253 yards on 33 carries, with 3 TDs is our early Heisman hopeful.
6. Auburn, (2-0)
It's hard to take much from the Tigers' mauling of Alabama State on Saturday, but they did have two 100-yard rushers--JaTarvious Whitlow and Shaun Shivers--on the day. It remains to be seen whether these two can reproduce that performance against SEC foes, though.
7. Ohio State, (2-0)
We've been accused of underrating the Buckeyes, but we swear it's nothing personal. We just know they have a lot more talent than their two opponents to date. TCU, in Texas, this weekend will be a huge test. And we think Dwayne Haskins (20/23 passing, 233 yards, 4 TDs versus Rutgers) will pass.
8. Penn State, (2-0)
At halftime of the Nittany Lions' primetime affair at Pittsburgh, we were already writing them out of our rankings. Then we, along with the Pitt Panthers, remembered that football games have four quarters. Miles (don't call me Mike--we heard about our typo last week, too) Sanders looked practically Barkley-esque, chugging for 118 yards on 16 carries in the muck and mire of Heinz Field.
9. Notre Dame, (2-0)
No harm no foul against Ball State, but the Irish were hardly impressive on Saturday. They should still be undefeated after their upcoming tilts against Vandy and Wake, but Stanford awaits in three weeks. By then, Brandon Wimbush (297 passing yards, 3 INTs against Ball State) better have his game together.
10. Washington, (1-1)
We have a similar warning for the Huskies. Jake Browning put up decent numbers against FCS opponent North Dakota on Saturday (313 passing yards, 2 TDs), but he also threw two picks. He'll have to better with Utah and Arizona State coming up.
