Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 4

Justin Carter's fantasy football wide receiver waiver wire pickups before Week 4 of the 2019 NFL season. These are free agent fantasy WRs to potentially add and stash.

Another week of NFL action is in the books. If you had Mike Evans in your lineup, you probably don't really have much need for this week's column. If you didn't have Mike Evans, read on!

This week's waiver wire list is headlined by a guy who everyone gave up on, a guy who got traded right before the year started, and a bunch of other guys.

Not all options are the same. Some players may be better in PPR or deeper leagues, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all comparison. Use your best judgment when deciding which of these players is the right fit for your roster. Check here for a complete list of our Waiver Wire Adds for Week 3 for help at all the skill positions. All players on this list here are around 30% owned or below.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! This 12-team, Tight End Premium contest uses a 20-round draft format, with the overall winners determined by total points scored during Weeks 15–17. WR Waiver Wire - Free Agents To Consider Adding

Mohamed Sanu, Atlanta Falcons - 29% owned

Sanu caught all six of his targets for 75 yards, while Calvin Ridley was targeted just one time. Does it mean anything? Maybe. Maybe not. But it's worth noting that the Falcons seemed to want to get the ball in Sanu's hands. Think about him on the waiver wire if you need a solid receiver who can fill in for you in a pinch. He's been targeted at least six times in every game this season.

Dante Pettis, San Francisco 49ers - 24% owned

Is Pettis -- who was just completely irrelevant through two weeks -- turning a corner? He caught four passes for 20 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, and while the yardage total isn't great, his Week 3 performance does suggest that he's starting to get involved in the team's offense. For a player as talented as Pettis, Sunday is a good sign.

Kenny Stills, Houston Texans - 18% owned

Well, it looks like Kenny Stills has officially surpassed Keke Coutee to become Houston's third receiver. In an offense as prolific as this one could be, Stills is set to be an important piece moving forward. He caught four passes for a team-high 89 yards on Sunday, and is becoming one of Deshaun Watson's favorite targets.

Danny Amendola, Detroit Lions - 14% owned

Great Week 1. Invisible Week 2. Better Week 3, though still a little disappointing. That's the Amendola story this year. On Sunday, he was targeted five times, catching four of them for 37 yards. Obviously not great, but the Lions are using him, and that's a big part of having value.

Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills - 8% owned

Beasley's had some solid games to start the season, including a four-catch, 83-yard showing against the Giants in Week 2. In Week 3, Beasley faced the Bengals and was targeted 10 times, hauling in eight of them for 48 yards and adding a two-point conversion. Beasley isn't going to consistently put up big yardage totals, but it's looking like he will consistently get a good number of targets in this offense, which gives him value in deeper PPR leagues.

Adam Humphries, Tennessee Titans - 6% owned

Humphries has seen his snap rate increase each week this year and on Thursday he finally saw his production catch up. The former Buccaneers slot receiver was targeted nine times, hauling in six of those targets for 93 yards. Humphries' fantasy value is always going to be dependent on getting a lot of chances -- he won't, for instance, be putting up solid numbers if he only gets three targets -- but with Marcus Mariota liking to throw short, there's room for Humphries to make a real impact moving forward.

Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers - 4% owned

Johnson caught three passes for 52 yards and score on Sunday, but maybe more important in terms of his fantasy value is that Pittsburgh's original WR2, Donte Moncrief, has been bad enough this year to be a healthy scratch in Sunday's contest. There's suddenly room for someone to take over that role, and Johnson was targeted more than James Washington against San Francisco.

Preston Williams, Miami Dolphins - 3% owned

With Josh Rosen at quarterback, the Dolphins still looked bad, but maybe it was a feistier kind of bad? Williams had four catches for 68 yards and was targeted 11 times. That's a lot of potential usage, and one of my general thoughts on receivers in PPR leagues is that double-digit targets get my eyes wide.

Auden Tate, Cincinnati Bengals - 0% owned

Double-digit targets, you say? Tate was targeted 11 times, hauling in six catches for 89 yards. He also lost a fumble. With Tyler Boyd and John Ross both struggling to get involved on a day where the Bengals offense took forever to wake up, Tate at least gave them a little bit of something. I have interest in 14-team leagues.

J.J. Nelson, Oakland Raiders - 0% owned

Nelson was targeted five times in this one, bringing in four of them for 36 yards and a score. He led Oakland's wide receivers in targets and while it's hard to see him in a fantasy starting lineup next week, he's worth a deep-league stash at this point.
