Updated MLB Prospects Rankings - Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects (Week 5)

josh lowe fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers waiver wire MLB injury new

Updated Top 25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings for Week 5. MLB prospects, rookies, and call-ups to make fantasy baseball impacts in 2022 redraft leagues.

With roster expansions in April, there were several impact fantasy baseball prospects that had opportunities, and the promotions have continued at a fast pace. In the past week, we have had several more top MLB prospects called up, including George Kirby on May 8, Royce Lewis and Jarren Duran on May 7, Juan Yepez on May 4, and Jose Miranda on May 3, and Alek Thomas on May 8.

These prospect names are no longer in the rankings below, as we remove them after being called up, but could appear again in future weeks if they are optioned back to the minors. It should be noted that Jarren Duran was sent back to the minors on Saturday May 8, after a one-game call-up, so he has been re-inserted into the rankings table below.

Below you will find our updated list of the top-25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings to make impacts for the 2022 fantasy baseball season, which RotoBaller will be updating weekly. You’ll find quite a few well-known prospects on the list — as well as some lesser-known players that could nonetheless provide key contributions to your fantasy league teams this season. As always, this weekly list is updated to reflect rest-of-season fantasy baseball values, and near-term impacts that these MLB prospects can make.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #1-5

1. Nolan Gorman, 2B/3B: Gorman is batting .298 with a .350 OBP, 11 HR, 17 RBI, and a .681 SLG so far in Triple-A. With Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson, Paul DeJong, Corey Dickerson, and Albert Pujols all with sub .300 OBP, this is an offense in need of a boost. The Cardinals did call up Juan Yepez. Most have linked Gorman's prospects of playing to Tommy Edman's production and while Edman is off to a good start to the season, it's clear that if a few guys don't get going soon, they could still use a potential bat such as Gorman in that lineup.

2. Oneil Cruz, SS: Cruz was expected to start with the big league club but was sent to the minors instead. He is off to a slow start batting .163 with a .273 OBP, one HR, 10 RBI, and just a .279 SLG at Triple-A Indianapolis. The only positive is he has eight stolen bases in 22 games played.

3. Heliot Ramos, OF: Ramos played four games in April prior to being sent back down. He's batting .220 with a .354 OBP, two HRs, and one steal in 21 games played.

4. Triston Casas, 1B: Bobby Dalbec is struggling while Casas is hitting .258 with a .368 OBP, five HRs, 19 RBI, and .485 SLG in 27 games played.

5. Jarren Duran, SS/OF: Recently sent down to Triple-A. He went 16-16 in Triple-A last year. It looks like his pathway to the big leagues will be through playing center field which he needs to work on more defensively.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #6-15

6. Gabriel Arias, SS/3B: An exciting prospect who just broke his hand and will be out for 6-8 weeks. He was previously No. 1, however, he is moving down to No. 6 at the moment until it is confirmed how long he will be out.

7. Grayson Rodriguez, SP: In five starts, he has gone 21.2 innings, with a 2.16 xFIP, a 37.9% strikeout rate, and a 32.2% K-BB%

8. Adley Rutschmann: Rutschman has gone from High-A to Double-A, and now he is at Triple-A. He should be coming up to the big leagues this summer if he continues to play well.

9. Kyle Muller, SP: Muller came up for one game and got shelled, allowing seven runs in 2.2 innings pitched against Texas. In Gwinnett, he is pitching with a 3.19 xFIP and 35.4% strikeout rate. He needs the opportunity to start multiple games and adjust to the big leagues, as he is clearly dominant in Triple-A. With Atlanta wanting to be competitive, they may not have the patience for Muller to experience big league growing pains if they do not have to.

10. Max Meyer, SP: Meyer could be coming up to the big leagues soon. In six starts, he has a 1.72 ERA, 3.00 xFIP, and a 31.5% strikeout rate in six starts in Triple-A. Elieser Hernandez is not pitching well this year. If he continues to struggle, Meyer could get a shot soon.

11. Riley Greene, OF: Riley Greene shed the walking boot and should begin baseball activities by the end of May/early June. The talent is there to be a contributor right away however it will depend on how fast he will heal.

12. Josh Lowe, OF: He has shown his power off, but unfortunately he has also shown his swing and miss. He struck out 38% of the time in the bigs and is striking out 62.5% of the time in six Triple-A games so far.

13. Gabriel Moreno, C: Moreno has zero home runs and just a 0.078 ISO in 17 Triple-A games so far this season. I would like to see more pop in his bat if he is going to be impactful for fantasy. He has shown some pop in limited stretches (.278 ISO in 32 games in Double-A in 2021).

14. Shane Baz, SP: He has missed the entire season thus far after having elbow surgery but should start throwing by the end of the month.

15. Alec Burleson, OF: Batting .265 with a .337 OBP, six HR, 14 RBI, and .530 SLG in 22 Triple-A games. As noted earlier, the Cardinals lineup has some struggles at the moment.

15. Miguel Vargas, 3B/1B: Vargas is getting on base and scoring runs at the Triple-A level. He has just three home runs and one steal in 27 games played. His .395 OBP is nothing to sneeze at. He might be a better real-life than fantasy player. The Dodgers are a difficult team to get playing time for, but if there are injuries at some key positions he could get his chance.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings #16-25

17. Mason Martin, 1B: Martin has four home runs and four steals with a .261 average, .580 slugging percentage, and a .318 ISO.

18. Elehuris Montero, 3B/1B: He gets called up when Kris Bryant went on the IL, only to play one game at the big league level. He is batting .277 with four home runs, and two steals in Triple-A.

19. Oswaldo Cabrera, SS: He has had some hype based on his 2021 minor league stats but he is off to a slow start this year, batting .192 with one home run and two steals in 20 games.

20. Nick Pratto, 1B: Pratto has five home runs in 23 games played so far this year with a .227 ISO. His on-base percentage is just .323 and he is striking out 34.3% of the time on top of that.

21. Ryan Noda, 1B: His OBP is .409 and he has five home runs in 26 games. Last season in Double-A, he hit 29 home runs in 113 games.

22. Brennen Davis, OF: Off to a slow start, batting .195 with two home runs in 22 Triple-A games so far this year. The Cubs could use a boost on offense but Davis needs more time before contributing.

23. Cade Cavalli, SP: He is throwing 98 regularly. He needs to continue to develop his offspeed pitches

24. Brett Baty, 3B/OF: They are hoping Baty is a long-term starter for them at 3B. Mark Vientos, another 3B, was put at Triple-A but is struggling there. Baty could be the long-term future. Can he leapfrog Vientos to get a chance?

25. Edward Cabrera, SP: He had a bicep injury. Was just promoted from Double-A to Triple-A and could be up soon if they do not promote Meyer.

Honorable Mentions: Nick Gonzales, 2B;  Vidal Brujan, OF;  Korey Lee, C; Vinnie Pasquantino, 1B; Michael Busch, 2B; Pedro Leon, SS/OF;  Oscar Gonzalez, OF; Peyton Burdick, OF; Luis Gil, P
