Daily Fantasy Golf DraftKings Picks (PGA DFS): WGC-Mexico Championship

Welcome back RotoBallers! J.B. Holmes, the slowest golfer, was there to win the Genesis Open (-14) when Justin Thomas (-13) faltered in the final round. It was the 36-year-old's fifth PGA Tour win and first since 2015.

In this article, I will be providing you with my  DraftKings PGA DFS lineup picks for the World Golf Championship-Mexico. My goal as always is to help put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups. You can also track my selections against every other fantasy golf expert on dailyoverlay.com

If anyone has lineup questions before the start of the tournament Thursday morning, feel free to contact me via Twitter @SethFinkTV.

WGC-Mexico Championship - PGA DFS Overview

Club de Golf Chapultepec will play host to the best 76 players in the world for their third time hosting this WGC. This course is a par 71, 7,330 yards that's also 7,780 feet above sea level (one mile equals 5,280 feet if you remember from grade school). That's higher in altitude, than the Denver Broncos' stadium. With this being a World Golf Championship, there will be NO cut.

There are four par-3's, 11 par-4's, and three par-5's. Two of those three par 5's are at least 600 yards in length. The greens are Poa annua. If you want an in-depth preview of the course, click here.

Let's take a look at the stats from the last two years.

Stat Club de golf Chapultepec Tour Average
Driving Distance 298 283
Driving Accuracy 59% 61%
GIR Percentage 65% 66%
Scrambling Percentage 60% 57%
Average three-putts per round 76%20 55%

Past winners in Mexico have been Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.

In Vegas, as of Tuesday on sportsbook.ag, Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas are the co-favorites at 10-1. Rory McIlroy is right behin at 11-1, followed by Jon Rahm (15-1).

My custom stat model will be focusing on stats from the start of the new year; SG: T2G (22%), par-5 scoring 550-600 yards (10%), three-putt avoidance (13%), fairways gained (10%), and GIRs gained (15%), SG:P on Poa (10%), birdie or better gained (20%) Three of the four most birdieable-holes are the par-5 sixth hole, 11th, and 15th. In length, they're 575, 622, and 625 yards.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for DraftKings (PGA DFS)

High-Priced DFS Players

There are sixplayers this week priced above $10,000;

Justin Thomas ($11,800) - JT did everything but win last week. He's been having a terrific season and now goes to a tournament where he's finished T-5 and runner-up last year. He's also number one in my power rankings. But after his collapse last week, I want to see how he responds before going with him.

Dustin Johnson ($11,500) - DJ won here in 2017 and finished T-7 last year. Finally we get DJ at a price where he isn't the most expensive.

Rory McIlroy ($11,100) - It's nice to see Rory playing this early in the season and at a high level. He's off a T-4 and was T-7 two years ago in Mexico (didn't play last year). He's also coming in a bit under the radar which is rare for him.

Jon Rahm ($10,700) - I loved him last week and he didn't disappoint. My custom rankings have him ranked number two, but I don't like him for this course. You need to be accurate and it can get increasingly frustrating when you hit a good shot, but it's in a bad lie or bad angle. Rahm is learning how to overcome those bad bounces and he gets too much in his head which can result in him throwing a club.

Rickie Fowler ($10,300) - Fowler took the last two weeks off after winning the Phoenix Open. He hasn't had the greatest of luck here with a T-16 and T-37.

Bryson DeChambeau ($10,000) - I don't understand how he's one of the highest-priced players. He's never played here and only finished T-15 at Riviera last week.

Middle-Priced DFS Players

Xander Schauffele ($9,100) - The youngster is sixth in my power rankings who hasn't finished outside the top-25 in his three tournaments this year. He also finished T-18 at this event last year, which was also his debut.

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,000) - Like Xander, Hideki is an under-the-radar player. He doesn't get enough recognition, but with the way he's been playing this year (T-3 at Farmers, T-15 in Phoenix, and T-9 at the Genesis) he deserves some credit. His putting makes me nervous, but he's been so good this year getting on the green in regulation and making birdies that I think he finishes top-10.

Paul Casey ($8,600) - After he blew the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago, Casey responded well last week with a T-25. That alone wouldn't get me to pick him, but him finishing T-16 an T-12 the last two years in Mexico is enough.

Gary Woodland ($7,900) - I wasn't sure which one to go with of these two so why not go with both. Woodland has not played well here the last two years (T-38, T-50). He hasn't even played the last two weeks on tour, but did have back-to-back finishes in Phoenix and the Farmers.

Charles Howell III ($7,800) - Howell has been the best in three-putt avoidance this season and is off a solo-sixth at the Genesis. This is his debut at this course, but based off the stats, he should have no problem acclimating.

Cameron Smith ($7,400) - I'm curious to see how far he's going to hit the ball in this altitude. That's probably the main reason I'm picking him because it'll be really fun to watch him on this course. He's 4/4 in cuts made on the year.

Low-Priced DFS Players

Henrik Stenson ($7,200) - This is a complete shot. Stenson's been nothing short of bad missing three straight cuts on the European Tour. He did not play here last year and withdrew in 2017. He'll be extremely low-owned which makes him even more intriguing.

Emiliano Grillo ($6,900) - I think this is too cheap of a price for Grillo. He hasn't played since the Phoenix Open where he recorded a T-33. Two years ago in Mexico he placed T-52.

Brandon Grace ($6,800) - I'm a little surprised with this price for Grace. Yes, he was cut last week, but played well the prior two tournaments including one solo runner-up. And the last two years, he finished T-32 and T-30. If he did that, that would be tremendous for this price.
