Top 10 College Football Quarterback Rankings for 2025: Week 9 Updates

Ty Simpson - College Football Rankings, CFB DFS Lineups, NFL Draft

Dominick's Week 9 college football quarterback rankings for 2025. His top national QBs for Week 9, including Ty Simpson, Fernando Mendoza, CJ Carr, and more.

While the top of the rankings stays the same, the rest of the rankings have had a big shake-up.

With some ugly results and worse play, some top-tier quarterbacks have taken a tumble.

You might think the movement is too much. But, based on how some of these games went, they were warranted. Not to mention, the players can rescue themselves by playing better in upcoming games.

Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks for Week 9

Ty Simpson, Alabama

Ty Simpson is playing far better football than anyone expected. Even the Alabama coaches.

After sitting on the sidelines for three seasons, Simpson has become the Heisman Trophy favorite for a Crimson Tide team that has completely put their Week 1 loss to Florida State behind them.

Alabama is now the favorite to win the SEC and is a real national championship contender with Simpson leading the team.

The magic Simpson provides on third and fourth down for Alabama is going to be made into a legend if Alabama does win the title. If they do win, coach Kalen DeBoer needs to give half of his salary, or at least his bonus, to Simpson.

After being an afterthought for draft analysts, Simpson is now being talked about as a top-10 draft selection in April.

Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

The newly mentioned quarterback to be taken No. 1 overall in the 2026 NFL draft, Mendoza led Indiana to an easy 38-13 victory over Michigan State.

This week, Indiana will take on another overmatched opponent in a rejuvenated UCLA Bruins squad and interim coach Tim Skipper.

UCLA has had some magical luck in winning its past three games. But, heading to Bloomington for a 12 noon kickoff will be a challenge.

Indiana does not take any opponent lightly. As the smaller brother of the Big Ten, their feeling of inferiority makes them score every point possible. If this mindset does not change, neither will the ranking of Mendoza.

Dante Moore, Oregon

Moore did not need to do much against Rutgers. Oregon scored 42 points in the first half against the Scarlet Knights, and the game was never in doubt.

The Ducks proved they are still one of the best teams in the country. In upcoming games, Oregon will continue to put the pedal to the metal, and this can mean good things for Moore and the Oregon skill players.

Expect Moore to stay in the top three of these rankings for the rest of the season as Oregon attempts to make a long playoff run.

CJ Carr, Notre Dame

This was not the best showing for Carr.

Just 16-of-26 for 136 yards, one touchdown, and one INT. But he did what he was called upon to do as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat USC 34-24 in the annual rivalry game.

With Jeremiyah Love going off for more than 200 yards rushing, Carr was able to manage the rest of the game.

Moving ahead, he will be forced to prove himself as the Irish must continue to win all their games if they hope to make the playoffs.

Luke Altmyer, Illinois

Altmyer moved up three spots this week. This was not due to how he played last week. It is due to the fact that the players below him did not have good games.

While on a bye with Illinois, Altmyer was able to make the best of a bad week of play. Sometimes luck is on your side.

Coming back this week with a game against Washington, we will see if the rise continues.

Josh Hoover, TCU

Hoover, at home, went up against Sawyer Robertson on Saturday and came out on top, both in the game and in these rankings.

While Robertson was passing for two touchdowns and three INT, Hoover had three touchdowns and zero INT on 22-of-31 passing and 231 yards.

This week should be another chance for Hoover to pad his stats as TCU heads to Morgantown to take on a wounded West Virginia. If Hoover does not eat the Mountaineers' defense alive, his ranking may have to take another dip.

Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

Ole Miss lost the game. But it was not due to their offense, or the play of newly minted starting quarterback Chambliss.

There were no punts in this game until the end of the third quarter. In the first half, every drive for the Rebels ended with a touchdown, including a TD pass on the first play from scrimmage for Chambliss. This was the only touchdown pass of the game for the transfer from Ferris State, but he finished with two rushing touchdowns on nine carries to help keep Ole Miss in the game until the end.

This week's game against an Oklahoma defense that is one of the best in the nation will provide the toughest challenge Chambliss will face all season. If Ole Miss can win in Norman, the rest of its schedule sets up for a playoff berth. It also sets up for Chambliss to continue to play stellar for Lane Kiffin, the likely next head coach of Florida.

Sawyer Robertson, Baylor

2,376 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven INT. These are the stats for Robertson on the 2025 season. Despite these numbers being as gaudy as they are, the Baylor Bears are still underachieving.

This continued Saturday against TCU in a matchup against another top QB in Josh Hoover.

Robertson, who lost the battle 42-36 to Hoover, finished with just 318 yards while completing just 25-of-52 passes. A completion percentage of 48.1%. He also had just two touchdowns while throwing three INT to the TCU defense.

Robertson started the season strong. But he has been fading heading into the final weeks for the Bears. Dave Aranda looked like he had saved himself from the hot seat. With the showing his team has been putting up lately, he is squarely back in the heat now.

Beau Pribula, Missouri

Auburn has a good defense. When and if Hugh Freeze is fired, defensive coordinator D. J. Durkin will take over as interim coach. But even with the Tigers' defense, Pribula did not have a good game on Saturday, 23-17, two overtime wins for Missouri.

Pribula was 23-of-40 passing for 252 yards with two INT and was sacked three times. Pribula managed one rushing TD to help in the win, but his passing still needs to take a step forward for Missouri to compete.

This week brings a game in Nashville against Vanderbilt, and how he reacts to a second straight road game will go a long way in finding out what his prospects are for the final stretch of the year.

Carson Beck, Miami (FL)

Oof! Coming off a bye week in Week 7, Miami went into its home game on Friday against the Louisville Cardinals as a 13.5-point favorite. They slumped out after losing 24-21, and much of this loss was due to Beck.

After throwing for four TD against Florida State, Beck ended this showdown with four INT in the Hurricanes' first loss of the 2025 season.

While Miami is still on track for a position in the ACC title game, if Beck cannot find his accuracy and mental game again, it might be the second straight late-season collapse for Miami to miss the playoffs.
